Chapter Four: This Is The Hero Course!

A test of our quirks???

"What about the entrance ceremony? Or the guidance sessions?" Ururaka asks with a shocked expression, confusion laced in her voice. We are all gathered outside on what looks like a giant baseball field. The school's grounds are humongous, but I wonder what a test of our quirks has to do with baseball.

Ama gives me a look that says you're a fucking idiot, before turning her attention back to our homeroom teacher. Excuse me miss mind reader, I'm probably one of the smartest people here.

"There's no time to waste on stuff like that if you want to become heroes," Aizawa replies, causes her mouth to drop in surprise. "U.A. is known for it's 'freestyle' educational system. That applies to us teachers as well."

Go figure. I'm not entirely surprised by this, and by the look of my sister's face beside me I can tell she isn't either. Whatever Aizawa has planned for us, it's not going to be easy. Ama reaches for my hand, and I smile down at her before taking hers in mine.

Her golden eyes stare up at me in uncertainty, one of her brows raised in confusion. I merely shrug in response, squeezing her hand in mine as Aizawa continues.

"Softball throwing. Standing long jump. Fifty meter dash. Endurance running. Grip strength. Side-to-side stepping. Upper body training. Seated toe touch. You all did these in middle school, yes? Your standard no-quirks allowed tests."

Aizawa narrows his eyes at me, causing me to nearly choke on air. I look around before pointing to myself, like bitch why are you singling me out here? "Though I know it won't be any different for one person here."

Wow, that's harsh. I roll my eyes as Ama removes her hand from mine, giving me a look that says he has a point you know.

"Bakugo," Aizawa continues, directing his attention to the spiky haired blonde boy from before. So his name is Bakugo, huh? "How far could you throw in middle school?"

"Sixty seven meters, I think."

Aizawa beckons him to a painted circle on the ground, tossing him a softball. "Great, now try it with your quirk. Anything goes, just don't leave the circle. Give it all you've got."

Oh dear god, what has our dear adoptive father done? The spiky haired hedgehog looking asshole winds up his arm with a devilish grin on his face, before launching the ball into the air with an explosive pitch. "DIIIIIEEEEE!!!!" He screams as the ball soars through the air, causing many of our classmates to gasp in horror.

THIS guys is trying to become a hero? He seems to be more suited for a villain role if you ask me.

The ball keeps going until it's nearly well out of sight, though I can still see the smoke coming off of the softball itself. Boom boom boy actually didn't do half bad, I think to myself, resting a hand on my hip.

"It's important for us to know our limits," Aizawa says, checking a small device in his hand before showing us what's on the screen. 705.2 meters... Bakugo made one hell of a throw, that's for sure. "That's the first rational step to figuring out what kind of heroes you'll be."

"Woah, this is awesome!"

"So we can use our quirks for real! Man the hero course is great!"

I roll my eyes at the other students who are cheering with smiles on their faces. Not that I don't have a grin of my own, but do they really think Aizawa is the type for fun and games? We can hardly get him to sit through a game of monopoly for family game night!

"..Awesome.. you say?" Ah, here it comes. "You're hoping to become heroes after three years here.. and you think it'll be all fun and games?" Oh shit, he took the words out of my mouth! Err.. head? Either way, I'm a fucking psychic!

"Right. The one with the lowest score across all eight events will be judged hopelessly, and will be expelled from the hero course." I hear a chorus of screams behind me, many a mix of fear and shock along with a bit of disbelief.

I see Momo and the boy with half white and half red hair with stoic faces, so I'm assuming they think he isn't serious. I'm not necessarily worried, but I do know Aizawa has expelled students in the past. He believes I'm not cut out for the hero life, so I don't doubt that there is a slim chance I could be next.

The main downside is, my quirk won't help me in any of these events. I'll just have to rely on my natural ability and training. Aizawa has the biggest grin on his face, running a hand through his hair while making eye contact with me and my sister. "Your fate is in our hands."

"This is.. the hero course of U.A. High School!"

"The lowest scorer will be expelled?" I look to my right to see Iida standing there with his hand to his chin, as if deep in thought.

Ururaka's face is more panicked as she stands beside him, a stark contrast to the stern boy. "It's only the first day! I mean, even if it weren't... that's still not fair!"

Aizawa's smile falls as he crosses his arms. "Natural disasters, highway pileups, rampaging villains. Calamity is always right around the corner. I'd say Japan is full of unfair things. Heroes are the ones that correct that unfairness."

Ururaka blinks a couple times in surprise as Aizawa continues. "If you were hoping to spend your evenings hanging out at McDonald's.. I'm sorry to tell you that for the next three years, U.A. will run you through the wringer."

Our homeroom teacher grins once more, beckoning to us with his finger. "That's plus ultra. Use your strength to overcome it all. So bring it." I look around at my classmates expressions, now all are filled with determination. Though I'm not quite sure on that Midoriya kid, he looks like he's about to shit his pants.

Oh boy, this should be fun... not.

First up, the fifty meter dash. I watched as Iida races against a frog looking girl, no question to what her quirk is. As they began, I heard a revving sound coming from the stern boy, and I see small engines on his calves light up before he propels himself forward.

So that's his quirk, I think to myself as he completes the fifty meter dash in just a few seconds. He's really in his element on this one, I half expected a quirk that enhances intelligence or something from him.

The frog girl isn't too bad either though, and finishes hers just a few seconds after. Though she didn't really dash so much as she jumped quickly. You know, like a frog does. Ururaka races against a boy with a large tail next, and I can admit he's pretty cute. Though he doesn't seem like the most talkative type.

Ama and I are the last ones to go, though I know for a fact I can't beat my younger sister in a test like this. As soon as the whistle sounds I take off, using the sound of my own pounding heart as a metronome. Though my quirk doesn't make a difference in events like these, hearing music always gave me a burst of energy when I need it.

I think of my own heartbeat as a drum, refusing to use my quirk in case it could affect Ama or the others. However my sister speeds past me, passing the finish line in four seconds total. I look up at her while I finish the dash in a couple more, a hoverboard made of sunlight attached to the bottoms of her feet.

"You know, it's called a dash for a reason," I say with a smile, panting a bit from the sprinting I just did.

"We are also allowed to use quirks. If Bakugo is allowed to use his explosions and simply propel himself forward, then I can surely make a hoverboard to get across." Ama gives me a smug grin as her hoverboard turns to specks of light, her feet now touching the ground.

"Don't worry, I think you'll do just fine in the other events. Especially the side stepping, you've always been good at that."

"I'm gonna be so amazing that the whole class will fall in love with my awesomeness!" I respond, pumping my fist in the air. My younger sister rolls her eyes and links her arm with mine as we head to join the rest of the class for the next event.

Grip strength was the next event, and once again I find myself lacking in that department. My sister does a bit better, but it's not as big of a difference this time. I hear gasps of surprise to my left, and I look over to find a boy with multiple arms surrounded by a few other classmates.

"540 kg? Are you a gorilla? Or an octopus?" A boy who's hair reminds me of ripped tape says, and I can feel my heart sink a little. That's so strong! I can't come anywhere close to that.. I think to myself, before clenching my hands into fists. But that doesn't matter! I just have to do well in the other events!

The standing long jump went by, and once again my sister aced that test with ease. Though she was right about the side stepping, I had the third highest score for that one. I just imagined my heartbeat as a metronome again and matches my steps to it, the faster my heartbeat the faster I stepped.

As we made our way to the ball throwing test, I felt a pair of eyes on my back. I find the boy with the large tail staring at me, though once our eyes meet he looks away, a slight pink tint to his face. What could he be staring at me for?

This chapter took a bit longer than normal, even though it's definitely not the longest chapter I've ever written. I can't wait to write more interactions with Ama and Zai, as well as the group chats that will happen in the future. Those are definitely my favorite to write, plus I get to include memes xD

Tenya Iida- Quirk: Engine. He has built in engines in his calves that make him go super fast! His fuel source is orange juice, while sugary drinks like soda stall his engines!
