Chapter Eight: Making Friends
Ama's POV-
I let out a sigh as I put my phone away, looking up to see Momo staring at me with a raised brow. "Is something wrong?" she asks, taking a sip of her tea.
"Nah, just Zai being... Zai." I reply, taking a bite of my roasted asparagus. My sister normally prefers seafood in her lunch, mainly because she can't work a stove worth a damn. I like meat a lot more, so my lunch is filled with teriyaki chicken, asparagus, stuffed bell peppers and some white rice with soy sauce on the side.
"You know, I would have never guessed you two were siblings just by looking at you," Momo says, setting her tea down with a smile. "Are you two twins? I mean, I think I heard Zai call you little sister but I find it hard to believe you'd be too far apart since you're in the same year."
"Actually, that's not quite it," I respond in a quiet tone, feeling my face heat up a little. "Zai was held back a year during middle school, she may be my older sister but she can be a bit of a troublemaker."
"What? But she seems so nice, I can't imagine what she could have done to get held back. Was she behind in her studies?" Momo asks with an intrigued expression.
"Nah, she just beat up this bully, stabbed him in the hand with her heel after kicking his ass too. So she was suspended and forced to stay behind a year, which put her in the same classes as me."
"So she's a delinquent?"
I nearly squeak in surprise as a boy with the face of a crow stands beside us, tray in hand. "Mind if I join you?"
"Not at all!" Momo replies, and the boy nods before sliding into the seat beside me. I notice Jiro walking in our direction along with the frog girl from earlier, and Momo slides over for them to join us as well. I guess she already invited them to lunch as well.
"I hope my question wasn't rude, I'm just a little surprised. My name is Fumikage Tokoyami, forgive me for my intrusion." The crow looking boy says, and already he's giving me emo vibes.
Strangely enough, I think he might actually get along with my sister. "Amaterasu Nobuyuki, but please call me Ama."
"Ah, named after the god of the sun I see. It fits your quirk really well."
"Yeah, my mother is- was pretty religious," I respond, feeling my heart sink a little. I can still see her face in my mind, smiling as she told us stories of the gods and heroes of old times. Dad always said I looked just like her, while Zai is the spitting image of himself.
She is originally from Egypt, and Dad met her while on a trip there with his parents. Mom moved to Japan at some point in her middle school years, and they attended U.A. high together. You could say they were like childhood friends and high school sweethearts.
"Was..?" Momo asks, before immediately covering her mouth in shock. "I knew I recognized your quirk, your parents were Solar Flare and RadioHead. I remember hearing about what happened to them from the news and my parents.."
"Weren't they pro heroes?" The frog girl says, turning to me. "Also, my name is Tsuyu Asui, but please call me Tsu. Kero."
"Yeah... they were," I reply as I quickly finish up my lunch. "Now if you don't mind, I'd like to either eat my food in peace, or move to a different topic."
Everyone looks at each other before turning to their own meals, casually chatting about the quirk assessment tests we had earlier. I merely let out a sigh, pulling a book out of my bag and turning to where I've bookmarked.
I don't even notice my sister get up from her table with the red headed boy, leaving a certain spiky haired blonde staring after her.
Lunch passed fairly slow, much to my disliking. I ran into Zai on my way back to class, the girls said they were going to hang back a bit to talk to Hagakure and Ojiro, but Tokoyami offered to walk with me.
"Aye sis!" Zai says as her and the red headed boy stand beside the classroom door. "How was lunch with Momo- AHH YOU'VE MADE ANOTHER FRIEND!!"
I mentally groan as she fangirls, both of them walking up to us as my sister has stars in her eyes. "Oh, Ama! This is Kirishima, I met him while having lunch with boom boom boy. What's your name, crow dude?"
Tokoyami's eyes widen in surprise, but he collects himself before they both exchange names. "Yoo, I'll admit you look pretty gnarly dude!" Zai says, looking the boy up and down. "Always wondered what it was like to have an animal quirk."
"Zai!" I hiss, watching Kirishima struggle to stifle a laugh. "Don't be rude, come on!"
"Whaaat? It's a compliment. Oh wait, you don't want me to embarrass you in front of your new boyfriend, huh?"
"WHAT THE- he is not my boyfriend we literally just met!"
"Uh huh, sure sis. The emo kid does seem like your type, but I didn't think you'd be flirting on the first day. That's supposed to be my job."
"Oh my god, shut up before I murder you."
Zai bursts into laughter before wrapping her arm around my shoulders, ruffling up my hair a bit. "Aww come on sis! I'm just teasing ya, don't need to get your panties in a twist. Anyways, it's nice to meet you Tokoyami."
"You too, Benza- err, Zai. I see you were named after the Japanese goddess of music and culture," Tokoyami says, catching me off guard. I didn't think anyone else would actually know that, I think to myself as I desperately try to fix my hair. If our names were Greek then sure, but color me impressed.
"Yooo, so this bird's using his brain! I dig it!" Zai says, before the bell rings to signal the official end to lunch. "Ah shit, we should probably get in there. Kirishima, do you think your hardening quirk could defend me from Aizawa's wrath?"
"Uh, sadly no. Why do you ask?" The red head asks with a brow raised.
"May or may not have stolen his signature goggles to take selfies with before putting them back in his desk."
...
....
.....
"YOU WHAT??!!"
"Ahahah.." Zai's face turns a light shade of red before she effectively tries to book it away from the classroom. Before she can, Kirishima grabs her by the waist and throws her over his shoulder with a terrified expression on his face.
"Zai, I may have offered to protect you, but I don't think I could last against our teacher. Plus, he will kick your butt if you aren't in class on time." He says, and Tokoyami and I follow him as he carries my sister into the room.
"Ooh, I like the view from up here! You know, carrying a girl like this could be pretty manly... or kinky," Zai says with a wink, and Kirishima's face turns as red as a tomato. My sister left the poor boy stuttering, and the surprised expression never leaves his face even after he sets her down and heads to his own seat.
"Is she always like this?" Tokoyami whispers to me as we walk towards our seats.
"Sadly yes. I don't think she realizes she flirts all the time though, that's just a part of her personality," I reply, and Tokoyami nods in understanding. "She's been like this for as long as I can remember."
We both split off and take our seats just as the bell signals the start of class. I read over the syllabus earlier before heading to lunch, and it seems like most of the time we will have hero course classes in the afternoons and normal classes in the mornings.
"I HAVE... come through the door like a normal person!"
I look up to find All Might standing in the doorway, his hands gripping the frame while his cape falls around him. I completely forgot that he was going to be teaching here at U.A. this year.
"That's his silver age costume!" I hear my sister say beside me, and I see her eyes light up as she sees him strut his way into the room. "All Might, I didn't think we'd get to see you today!"
The number one hero's eyes lock on my sister's, his smile somehow getting wider by the second. "Young Benzaiten!!! It's been too long!" He says, rushing over to my sister.
She stands from her chair and they both jump right into their signature handshake. We had met All Might a little over a week ago, Aizawa introduced him to us and those two hit it off immediately.
"ALL MIGHT!" Zai says as she jumps up and punches All Might in the face. The rest of our classmates gasp, but the number one hero merely laughs in response.
"ZAI!" He says, and returns her punch with one of his own right to her stomach. My sister flies to the back of the room, hitting the wall with a bright smile on her face. Both of them are laughing messes, while the rest of the class looks both shocked and horrified at what went down.
Zai jumps from the small crater she had made in the wall, cracking her neck as she limps her way back to her seat. My sister has always been good at hiding pain, but I also know that All Might didn't hit her as hard as it looks like he did. My sister might have a bruised abdomen and back but that's it.
All Might makes his way back to the front of the room, hands on his hips in a hero pose. "Hero basic training! The class that'll put you through all sorts of special training to mold you into heroes!"
Okay, now I'm interested. My sister looks like a giddy child as she wriggles in her seat with excitement. "No time to dally, today's activity is battle training!"
YES!! I think to myself, a small smile creeping up on my face. "And for that, you'll need these," All Might continues, and multiple boxes with numbers come out of little cubbies from the wall beside us.
"Costumes!" Zai says, earning a laugh from the number one hero.
"That's right! These were made in accordance with the 'quirk registry' and the special request forms you filled out before being admitted. After you change, come out in ranking order to Ground Beta!"
As All Might leaves we all head over to grab our boxes, my sister taking number thirteen while I take number fourteen. "Aren't you excited, sis?" Zai asks as we both rush out towards the locker room. I nod to my sister, because now I get to show off my quirk a little more than I did during the assessment earlier today.
"Yeah, I'm all fired up now!"
Next chapter you'll get to see the costumes drawn by Editor-chan! Artist-chan had made some art of the characters, but I want to save them for later since they don't show off the entire suit completely.
Eijiro Kirishima- Quirk: Hardening. He can make his body as strong as steel, completely untouchable and bulletproof! He's the only one Bakugo trains with regularly because he can easily withstand the blonde's repeated explosions!
