Burdens

Ahsoka spread out the folded map onto the table outside. They were seated outside of a small restaurant where they picked up lunch. "We're currently about here," Ahsoka explained circling the whole San Diego area with her finger. "Alright, that's actually kind of vague, but I'm still trying to understand this place. Anyways, you know where Palpatine is, right?"

Anakin put down his water and picked up the map. "I'll do my best. Like you said, we're still understanding this place. I do remember his home is right next to the ocean."
Ahsoka frowned and glanced at the map. She was confused and perhaps even a tiny bit terrified of her surroundings and situation. The people seemed nice enough, but it was so different from what she knew. She glared at the sky and sighed.

"Hm, I think it was somewhere in this general area," Anakin finally said pointing at a very fancy area. Only the rich lived there. "Now what?"

"Now we find that artifact he has and find a way to go home."

"Truthfully, I don't think he even has it," Anakin replied. He put the map down. "We're going to have to find it ourselves before Palpatine."

Ahsoka tapped her fingers on the table. She felt lost and had no idea what to do. Not too long ago she lived on the run from the newly found Empire, and now she was here. Working at a bakery with Lux Bonteri. "Perhaps I can ask Lux to help. He seems to know his way around with his false memories and all. I don't know what else to do."

"Well, it's a start, and that's what matters," Anakin replied.

"Where would the force put this thing?"

"What now?"

Ahsoka sighed. "Look, I know it doesn't make much sense, but where would this thing end up? We've all been thrown into random situations and places. This Sith artifact could very well be somewhere random, just like us."

Anakin stared at Ahsoka. "You're defiantly onto something. I'll do some research, but in the meantime I need to get back to the workshop. I have a new employee."

Ahsoka nodded and stood up. "Keep in contact."

"I will."

The grocery store was filled with mid-day shoppers. Some were on their lunch breaks, others were stay-at-home mothers with their rambunctious children running throughout the store.

"Do you know how much this costs?" the woman asked pointing at a bag of chips. "I don't see a price on it anywhere and there wasn't a sign telling me."

Finn sighed and scanned the bag of crunchy potato chips. "It's on sale. Two for three dollars."

The woman's face lit up. "Now way! Like seriously?!" She tapped her son on the shoulder. "Go grab one more. Now!"

Finn watched the kid run off and continued to scan the rest of the items. All the as the essentials. Bread, eggs, milk, fruits, vegetables, and an assortment of other foods this woman's kids probably grabbed last minute. "Your totally is one-hundred dollars and ninety-seven cents."

"That's a weird total. Ha! Oh well. Here you go!" the woman handed Finn the money and left with her children and groceries.

Finn looked at the clock and longed to go home. If he could even call it that. The next woman came up and put her things up as Finn scanned them.

"How are you doing today," Hera asked kindly.

"I'm doing good. How are you?" Finn was so used to same question throughout the day. The response was now a habit.

Hera fumbled with a few coupons. More like handfuls of coupons. "Fine, I guess."

Finn remained silent and continued to scan the items. Hera put her coupons on the counter and Finn then scanned those. "Your total is one-hundred and fifty dollars."

"A-after coupons?"

"Yes, after coupons."

Hera glanced over the items. "But I only I have one-hundred and thirty dollars." She let out a heavy sigh and looked over the food. They needed every bit of it, but something needed to go. "I suppose the bread, apples and uh and all the vegetables can go. I'll have to buy frozen ones. . .when I can."

Finn looked at Hera sadly as he took her money away. It looked as if she was giving every last penny away. He hoped that wasn't so, but sometimes the galaxy is cruel. He took the receipt out and handed it to her. "Have a nice day."

"Thank you too. . .Finn,"'she replied reading his name tag. Hera took her groceries and headed to her car.

There went the rest of her money. She'd never pay the bills or her debt now. But they needed to eat. She tossed the groceries into the trunk and sat in the driver's seat. She rubbed the temple of her head stressed. It seemed that there was no way she'd save the home now. The children would have to go somewhere else.
