You wake up to the new morning, and as usual, you get ready for school. You quickly dress into something comfortable, stuff a museli bar and some chips in your bag, checking that your part of the project is intact and you leave. Your father was at work today so Ralsei would be home alone.
"Morning, Y/N." He says cheerfully. He seems to be reading a cook book of how to make apple pie. You smile and give him a hug before leaving to school.
You closed the front door behind you and saw Moon, wearing a dress. The dress was black and she was gloomy. You catch up to her and she sees you and smiles softly. "Have a good day at school. Your dress should be ironed for you in your room on your desk chair. Come to the church straight after school." You looked at her confused. "Who died?"
"You didn't hear? The mayor's husband. Noelles father."
It felt like a pile of bricks decided to appear in your chest, instantly making you feel physical and mental pain. Your stomach turned, but you managed to say a simple "okay, have a good day." Before setting off to school with now, a very slow pace. Although the autumn was still evident and beautiful, you didn't feel like hometown was the same. You could see everyone had heard the news, because they were all quiet, and no one was as happy as per normal.
School was an interesting experience, the school day was short since everyone was attending the funeral afterwards. Everyone saw that Noelle wasn't at school, probably helping out with the funeral plans. Kris and Toriel had come later than usual, and judging from how tired Kris was, they probably stayed up all night helping to prepare for the service today.
Susie didn't come to school, to your disdain. So you hung out with Kris and you both tried to console eachother. You both were so used to the friendly, happy, bright side of hometown that this gloomy, sad side of it had taken a toll on you both. Kris started crying because of all the pranks he pulled on Noelle and how her father thought he was creepy. You tried telling him it was fine.
But you felt the tears creep on you too. So you both cried on eachothers shoulders. Holding eachother. You told Kris that you apologise for being a bad friend. He says sorry for being a sarcastic asshole.
You guys kept apologising to eachother.
And then the final bell rang, signifying the end of school. You wave to Kris and tell him to meet you at the chapel. "Okay then." Kris says, before going the opposite direction to go home. You run as fast as you can, open the door and smell the scent of fresh apple pie. Ralsei is already dressed. "Get ready. Quickly." Ralsei says, gently pushing you out of the kitchen and toward the hallway. You nod and grab the ironed black dress from your room and put it on. Moon is home, she had finished helping out with the flowers in the chapel.
"Here, I'll do your hair." She says, and she tells you to sit down on a chair. She does your hair up quickly, running the straightener through your hair expertly and fluidly. Before you knew it, you were ready. She quickly puts makeup on you and tells you to put on her earrings. "Beautiful." She says simply, smiling. "Looks just like her sister." You roll your eyes and giggle.
"Uh..guys! A little help!" You both rush to the kitchen. Ralsei baked pies for everyone to carry for the service. So you all leave the house carrying the pies. Moon locks the door to the house, saying that your father was already there.
You see Susie there. She looked lovely in the suit that she was wearing. She stood there with Kris and you wave at them, they waved back smiling. You put the pies that you were carrying on the table for the refreshments after the service and go outside to greet your friends.
"Hey Y/N. Sorry I didn't come to school. I just finished telling Kris that I was helping out the adults with the service preparation." You looked at Susie and smiled. "It's fine. It's good that you helped, I would've come too, but I don't know how Noelle wouldn't taken that." Susie nods. "Yeah, Kris was saying that you two were crying all day today. Seems like you and Kris had the same reason why you didn't want to help."
"Yeah..." You say, trailing off.
"Hey guys!" Noelle says, waving as she weaved through the crowd of monsters. "I'd just like to say that I'm really grateful for you guys to come." You smile. "I'm really sorry for what happened. Out of all people in hometown you didn't deserve what had happened to you." Noelle was taken aback. "W...wow, Y/N. Thank you so much.." You nod. "I just...know how it feels to lose a parent."
You didn't tell anyone that your mother died shortly after the divorce. But then again, you thought that they didn't have to know about that.
"Y/N?.."
"Oh, yeah?" You say. You didn't want Susie to finish that sentence. She puts a hand on your shoulder and points to the chapel. "The service is gonna start. How about we go take a seat?" You nod.
Noelle had saved you all seats at the front, to your surprise. You felt humbled but also a little anxious. You had felt more guilty that she was being nice to you, and you could tell that Noelle was still a little unsure, but you were thankful nonetheless.
The service was a blur, literally, because of the tears that were coming out of your eyes at inhuman velocity. They just kept coming and coming. Susie and Kris looked at you in worry, and Susie whispers to Kris. "It this normal for a human to cry this much?" Susie says. Kris shook his head. You knew this wasn't normal, but you didn't care enough to stop them. Noelle was also looking at you, wanting to hug you and tell you it was okay, but she was conducting the service, so she couldn't do anything.
At last, Noelle was the final speaker for the evening. Her mother hugs her before she says her speech.
"Hello everyone, as you know my name is Noelle Holiday. I'd like to thank each and every one of you for coming to the service today. My father would be extremely grateful for you all and I can't stress how humbled I am to be speaking on behalf of my father."
"My speech is short and sweet, for I am sure you all have testaments of your own of my father. But I'd like to thank Y/N."
"Wait, What???"
"I'd like to thank her for being a great example to me. She has taught me confidence and without her moving into town, I would say that I wouldn't have the courage to stand here today and talk in front of you all."
Everyone looks at you, with smiles and admiration. Because someone like Noelle usually is very independent, but to have someone be an inspiration to everyone else's inspiration? You're all of a sudden very important.
After the service, everyone goes and pays their respects to the coffin before it's burial the next day, but for some reason you didn't see Noelle there. You nudged Susie. "Where's Noelle?" You say worriedly. Susie looks around, then shrugs. "I don't see her anywhere."
You check all around the chapel and see someone walking towards the back of the chapel. You follow suit and before you know it, you see Noelle. "Noelle..." you start off. "Before you ask if I'm okay, I'm not going to lie, but I'm not." Her voice was sharp and her gaze was bitter.
But you understood. You were bitter too when your mother left. "Noelle, I know that you're really unsure of me, but i didn't come here to talk to you just because you mentioned me in the service."
She turns around, tears in her eyes. "I meant those words, Y/N. I know that at the back of your mind you hate me, and that's understandable, but I just want you to know that you are inspirational, and judging from Susies change of pace...it seems that you haven't just inspired me."
"Noelle.."
"Your sister, that girl with the dyed hair. Moon, right?" You nod. "Yeah?"
"She explained about how you and Susie knew eachother from birth, and how you two were the best of friends and all that jazz."
She turns to you.
"Y/N, I want you to love Susie the way I couldn't have possibly loved her." Her blonde hair radiated in the chapel light, although the evening was greeting the time. "Y/N. I can't believe I'm saying this, but.."
"You're Everything She Needs."
