Chapter 9

Astrid's POV

It was starting to get dark and the gang wasn't back yet. I was concerned that they got frozen.

"Valka can you watch Mercy for a little while I need to go do something." I asked Valka.

"Hold it. Where are you going?" She said as she grabbed Mercy and I started walking towards Stormfly.

"I was going to check if Hiccup was okay." i replied as i turned around.

"Astrid I can't let you dot that. If you get frozen Hiccup will not only be disappointed in you for leaving but mad at me for letting you leave. So you're staying right here." She said.

"I'll just be in the air on Stormfly." I protested.

"Astrid my answer is final you will not leave this cove." She said as i sighed and sat on a rock. "Well you wouldn't go far if you left because they're right there." Valka said and pointed to the gang flying in. Once they landed they go swarmed with panicking vikings. i pushed through the large crowd of people to where Hiccup was.

"Hiccup!" I shouted as i tackled him into a bear hug, making him fall backwards.

"Astrid you're crushing me." He said as he lifted me off of him.

"Sorry I guess I'm happy you didn't get stung." I looked behind him to see the twins messing with a paralyzed Snotlout. "Did he get stung again?"

"Yeah i think he took a sting for Allysa in another attempt to win her heart." He said.

"What happened to him and Ruffnut?"

"I'm clueless on that one. I mean it is Snotlout we're talking about a new girl comes to the island he's all over her like the twins and new weapons." He stated. "Everyone here is okay right?"

"Yeah we're all fine I think everyone wants to go home though." I answered.

"I know I do. Alright everyone grab anmything you brought from your homes and begin walking back to the village!" He announced as he grabbed a barrel of food that was brought.

"Oh you still have to fix that broken floor board in our room." I reminded him.

"Oh I completely forgot about that. I'll do it when we get home. How did that even happen anyway?"

"You really think I would know that?" I answered.

"Well I don't know I mean you're usually at home while I'm being dragged around the village and bombarded with questions."

"True but no I don't know how it got there." I said as we walked through the forest. I looked at all the trees and noticed all the marks from when I would be training.

"Ah Hiccup glad I found you we have to do an animal countin the barns." Gobber said once he caught up to us. I didn't realize that we were ahead of everyone.

"Am I desperately needed for that?" Hiccup asked.

"Well no but you are the chief so I think you should know how many animals we have." Gobber replied.

"How about you write the total number of each animal on a piece of paper, then bring it to my house." Hiccup suggested.

"Can do chief." Gobber said as he walked away. Hiccup gave a small sigh.

"You alright?" I asked with a concerned look.

"Yeah it's just I'm not fond of people calling me chief. Reminds me of my dad." He said and looked at the ground now that he had free hands since Gobber took his barrel. I got down to his eye level and looked striaght into his eyes.

"I know it's tough right now but HIccup look around you, Berk is doing great with you as chief. I know you miss him. Everyone does. But he woukdn't want yo to mope around and let it get you down. Your father would want you to enjoy your time as the chief. And your time as a father adn husband." I lifted his head with my finger. He smiled at me before planting a light yet passionate kiss on my lips, then hugging me.

"Thank you Astrid. I love you and I don't know what i would do without you." HE whispered.

"I love you too HIccup."

~the morning~

Hiccup's POV

I woke up in the morning and remembered everything that happened yesterday. From the speedstingers showing up in the morning to me and Astrid's conversation. I looked over and saw her turned away, still asleep. I peeked over and kissed her left cheek. I noticed her smile.

"Oh fake sleeping haha very funny." I said and got up.

"Well I could have actually been sleeping I heard I smile a lot in my sleep." She said and stood up too.

"But you weren't sleeping. Come on I'm making breakfast." I said and trotted downstairs.

"Okay but make sure you don't burn your this time it left a weird smell in the house last time you did that." she said and went across the hall. I began to search the cabinets in the kitchen for any eggs.

"Hey Astrid are we out of eggs?" I called.

"I don't know I haven't looked. Did you check the cabinet by the door?" She yelled back.

"I checked each one but I think we're out!" I said and checked the last cabinet. Just what iI expected. No eggs. "Yep no eggs." I said once she came in the kitchen.

"Huh that's so weird I could have sworn that we had some yesterday. A whole basketfull I think." Astrid said as soon as someone walked in the door.

"Snotlout what are you doing here in the moring?" I asked as I stepped out of the kitchen.

"I came to return the basket you guys had your eggs in. I made breakfast for a special someone and Bucket and MUclh don't trust me at their farms." He said and handed me the empty basket. I gave Astrid a blank stare and she gave me one back.

"I can see why they don't want you there. You're always involved in the yak tipping." I said and put the basket on the table.

"How would you know?" He asked.

"Uh hello, Chief of Berk. Nothing happens on this island without me hearing about it." I said. I looked away for a second.

"Something wrong Hiccup?" Snotlout asked.

"Oh sorry, iw as going over the things i needed to do today and the first thing was get the eggs so I'm gonna do that you two, catch up you haven't talked in a while." I said and rushed out of the house with the basket. I turned around when I heard the front door open.

"You were doing more then just going over your list." Astrid said and sat next to me. I took a deep breath.

"My dad said that exact same thing to me when he found out I was doing good in dragon training and gave me my helmet." I said with a hint of sadness.

"So what's the matter with that?" She asked.

"I dont know. It's just i have this subconcious fear of becoming my father. You know, separated from his family, worrying only about the village.  I can't do that Astrid, Not to you. Not to Mercy. Not to Toothless. No one." I said and paced around.

"Hiccup you won't become your father. Even though you two are related doesn't mean you're the exact same. Yes you have your similarities but you're Hiccup and you're going to stay Hiccup until the moment of your last breath. Don't fprget that." She said and walked back in the house. I stood for a second, then walked over to Toohtless.

"Hey bud we're going on a little flight." He growled happily and bounced around and started stomping in the roof of he house.

"Toothless stop you're going to break the roof!" I heard Astrid shout out of the bedroom window.
