Chapter 46
Astrid's POV
I was flying around Berk, looking for Hiccup, when I saw Gobber walking through the village. I landed behind him, making him turn and face me.
"Oh hi Astrid." He greeted.
"Hey Gobber have you seen Hiccup?"
"No I haven't. No one has, actually. But I would check Sven's farm. He had to do some work there today." He suggested.
"Alright. Do you have a list of what he has to do?"
"I always do." He replied and handed me a list. It was pretty short, so this shouldn't take long.
"Thanks." I said and flew off towards the farm.
Mercy's POV
I walked through the trees with my bow in my hand. I looked around for any sign of the creature that ran in front of us.
"Mercy!" Jade shouted. I turned around and saw her running towards me with Cody shortly behind. She stopped in front of me, breathing really heavily.
"You idiot you probably just scared that thing off by shouting!" I whispered loudly.
"Oops. Sorry." She whispered. I rolled my eyes and continued to look for the animal. I'm just going to assume it's an animal because no human could move that fast. I peeked around the bush to find empty grass.
"It got away." I muttered.
"It's alright, it was probably just a sheep that wandered here during a dragon race." Jade assured.
"Probably. Still, it could've been something else."
"Let's just go back to the cove. At least we still have a few hours to relax." Cody stated.
"I should be home soon though. My parents will freak out if they don't see me all day."
"Hasn't your mom seen you today?" Jade asked.
"We briefly talked." I shrugged.
"And your dad?" Cody questioned. I pursed my lips awkwardly and rubbed my arm.
"I haven't seen him today." I mumbled. There was an awkward silence for about thirty seconds. I sighed. "I'll talk to him tonight, okay?"
"Good." They chimed.
"Anyone else, like, really hungry?" Jade asked.
"I could eat." Cody replied. I nodded and we walked towards the Great Hall.
/~at the great hall~\
Cody's POV
I silently munched on small pieces of my chicken leg as Mercy and Jade rambled about something. I looked back down to my plate, but then was yanked into the conversation.
"Ok Cody we need your opinion." Jade said.
"On what?"
"Do Jade and I look like sisters?" Mercy blurted.
"Well if you two were just standing next to each other and someone looked at you, I could see how they would think you're sisters." I replied.
"I WAS RIGHT!" Mercy shouted. Everyone in the hall stopped thier talking and eating, and lookde at her with confused glances. "Sorry everyone! Go back to what you were doing!" She announced. Everyone shurgged and returned to their tasks.
"Well that was awkward." Jade grumbled.
"Yeah... maybe I shouldn't shout so much." Mercy stated as we hearda rumble outside, followed by a crack.
"What was that?" A villager said. Mercy ran out before anyone. "Mercy no!" The woman shouted, but she was already out the door. I stood and ran out, seeing ran pouring from the sky.
"It's okay everyone just a small storm!" Mercy announced as she walked back inside, soaked i water as if she just got out of the ocean. I heard multiple sighs of relief come from the crowd. I ran over to Mercy.
"Are you stupid? What if there was something deadly out there? You could've gotten killed!" She raised her hand in front of my face.
"Just don't." She sassed and put her hand down. I sighed in defeat. "I'm gonna go back home and get into dry clothes." She stated and walked back out intot he rain.
"You got shushed." Jade said as she walked up behind me. "How does it feel?" She questioned sarcastically and walked out, leaving me standing there.
Mercy's POV
I pushed the door open and walked in as my boots made wet footprints on the wood. There was no one downstairs, so I walked over to my room and changed my clothes. I then went back out to the table and sat down in the chair and started to read the Book of Dragons. Again. I heard the door hinges squeak and in walked mom and dad.
"Oh Mercy you're home! I thought you would be with Cody and Jade." Mom said.
"I was but I came home after it started to rain." I answered simply, looking at both of them. The rain had completely soaked both of them.
"Where's Allysa?"
"I think she's upstairs with Stoick. I just got home a few minutes ago."
"I'll go check." She said and walked upstairs, leaving dad and I. There was a bit of an awkward silence.
"OKay let me just start with saying I'm so sorry I know you set the rules but I just thought you would bend it a little bit but I was wrong and it was wroong fro me to storm out and not talk to you and aovid you and I'm really really really-" I began to rant before he interrupted me.
"You have nothing to apologize for. It was all me. I lashed out. I yelled. I lost my cool. And I know you've never been yelled at because you've never done anything that deserves to be yelled at. I just- I just want to protect you. I know you're growing up and soon enough you'll be able to make your own decisions and be free. But, all I wanna do is keep you safe and away from harm." He stated. I was standing in front of him as he knelt to my eye level. "Hey, maybe you'll get taller." He added with a small laugh. I smiled and engulfed him in a hug, knocking him off balance for a moment.
"I love you dad."
"I love you too sweetie."
/~the next morning~\
Astrid's POV
It was a brisk morning. The rooftops and pathways were drapped in blankets of snow. I yawned and crawled out of the blankets, feeling the cold all of the sudden hit me. I shivered and walked downstairs, seeing Hiccup doing work in the Book of Dragons.
"Morning babe." I yawned and rubbed my eyes.
"Good morning Milady." He smiled.
"Woah someone's in a good mood. What happened?" I asked as I saw Mercy coming from behind him. She attacked his shoulders and hung there,
"Morning dad!" She said happily. I looked at Hiccup and raised my eyebrows with a small smile.
"And when were you going to tell me this?"
"Today. I swear." He smiled. I laughed.
"Alright well the gang wants to meet us for a little get together."
"What for?" He asked. I shrugged.
"All I know is, it's in the academy. In one of the old cages which are now being uses as saddle storage rooms." I stated as there was a knock on the door. I opened it up to see everyone there with plates of food and wide smiles. "Hey guys I though we were meeting in the academy."
"It was too cold." Ruffnut griped.
"And really snowy." Tuffnut complained.
"Don't you mean 'covered in snow'?" Hiccup chimed.
"Whatever makes you happy Mr. Genius." He replied and they all walked in.
/~time skip to like 2 hours later~\
"Sounds pretty nuts." Allysa stated as Hiccup and I finished telling her the story of the Screaming Death.
"I remember I was facing dragons when I was ten." Snotlout said with a cocky smile.
"Oh please you facing dragon fire. And plus you weren't even near it!" I stated loudly.
"I had to lift the buckets of water. Believe it or not but most of you were almost as shrimpy as Hiccup." He replied.
"Watch it Snotlout." Hiccup said as he took anoother bite of fish. "I was in the safety of the forge. And I was pretty happy."
"If you call the forge safe." I mumbled."I always remeber seeing you guys putting out fire though. I almost jumped through the window and joined you so many times. But every time, Gobber caught me. So I was stuck watching."
"It's true." I added.
"I remember when I was ten to fifteen, I think, I had the biggest crush on Astrid. Everytime someone mentioned her name I would blush and have to hold back the biggest smile ever. But of course, I could never even get close to her unless she came into the forge to get her axe sharpened. But she didn't know that everytime it was there, I made it better."
"Aw Hiccup." I said and kissed his cheek. "I remember my crush when I was ten. Still can't believe I liked him."
"It's me right?" Snotlout quesitoned sarcastically. I scoffed.
"You wish." I sassed. "He was a little shrimp that left marks all over the village. Good and bad. He always worked on my axe for me. Little cutie."
"Who is it? You're being a master of suspense!" Tuffnut asked. We all stared at him. "What? Is there something on my face?" Ruffnut punched him in the face, making him fall out of his chair and onto the floor.
"Idiot." She mumbled. I heard a light know on the door, followed by footsteps going towards the door.
"Mom and Dad I'm going out I love you bye!" Mercy shouted.
"Bring Toothless!" Hiccup shouted before the door shut completely.
"Where's she going?" Allysa asked. Hiccup and I both shrugged.
"She just goes around the island." He asnwered as everyone turned to their plates.
Mercy's POV
"Did everything work out with you dad?" Cody asked right as I closed the door.
"Yeah everything's good. You were excited to find out." I replied.
"Well I was wondering about the whole dating thing. If he was gonna bend the rule or not." My eyes widened.
"You know, I think that conversation can happen another day." I stated and woke Toothless up.
"Okay. What are you up to today?"
"I really want to go flying."
"Do I have to go with you?" He asked with a hesitant tone, as if he already knew the answer. I glanced at him. "I'll take that as a yes." I laughed slightly.
"You don't have to. I'll be back in like a half an hour."
"If you're going flying you'll need someone there. In case something happenes." He said.
"When does something baever happen to me?" I thought for a moment. "Don't answer that." I added and took off towards the cove.
