Hiccup's POV

I flew down to Johann's ship once he was clear of that island. Once I laned I left Mercy on the saddle, since she was still somehow sleeping, and removed my helmet.

"Thanks again for everything Johann. You were a huge help." I said.

"Ah it's my pleasure! Anything to bring an innocent child back home." He replied cheerfully.

"We'll just head back to Berk to drop off the soldiers and you can be on your way."

"Can do Master Hiccup." He said and turned to his inventory. I turned around, climbed on Toothless, then flew back up to where the gang was.

"How is everything?" Astrid asked when I glided smoothly next to her.

"Everything's fine. Johann is headed towards Berk to drop off the men. Are you alright?" I asked her.

"I think so. Do I look okay?"

"You look perfect but I'm wondering how you're feeling." I sat and pat my stomach with my open hand.

"Oh now I get it! Oh yeah I feel fine." She said. "I just want to get her back home. We didn't get to celebrate." 

"I don't think she'll want to. This kinda leaves an ugly scar for birthdays."

"You think she won't want to celebrate her birthday again?" Astrid asked with a very concerned tone.

"We will let her make that choice. It's not ours to make."

"You're right. We'll wait until tomorrow and let her choose if she wants to celebrate or not."

Mercy's POV

I started to wake up when I felt I were in thin air. The breeze was flying fast through my hair. I opened my eyes slowly and only saw clouds. I was flying. But on what? Did I train a dragon then fall asleep when I was riding it? No. I couldn't have. I went to sleep in a tree. Upside down. I started to slowly sit up and look below me. All I saw was clouds and... Toothless?

"Toothless!" I shouted and wrapped my arms around his head. "Hey boy what happened?"

"We found you sleeping in a tree." Dad said from behind me. I immediately flung backwards and bear hugged him, causing him to fall backwards onto Toothless's back. (aw so sweet)

"How did you guys find me?" I asked.

"Well we found the handle to your bow and saw a symbol engraved into it. We looked it up in that book I have and found which island it belonged to." Dad explained. Wait a minute, where's Cody.

"Wait Dad we have to go back." I said.

"What? Why are you nuts?"

"I met someone and he saved my life a few times and we have to go back for him."

"You mean Cody? He's over with Allysa and Violet." Dad reassured and pointed in their direction. I saw him poke out from behind Allysa and wave at me with a smile. I gladly returned the smile and wave. (just smile and wave boys. smile and wave.) "I met him when I found you."

"Yeah there was another but I don't know what happened to him." I said and looked at my hands. They were covered in dirt, mud, dust and a little blood from my head. I quickly touched the dirty cloth around my head. "Wait do we have bandages?"

"In your mothers bags." Dad said. "Hey Astrid come here!" He shouted. They came over to use and mom smiled as wide as the ocean.

"I'm so glad to see you're okay! She shouted. "What do you need Hiccup?"

"Some bandages from Stormfly's bag." He said. She nodded and grabbed them, then tossed them over to dad. "Thank you." He said and she flew back over to Snotlout and Allysa. "Okay let's take ths thing off." He said and untied my cloth.

"How bad is it?" I asked.

"Well if you're talking about the cloth, disgusting. Wound, not too bad. I just need to get clean bandages on it." He said and started to wrap them around my head. It kinda stung, so I gave a little wince. "It's okay, just try and stay as still as possible." He said calmly. I stayed still until I felt him tie the bandage in the back. "All done. See? It feels better doesn't it?" He said when I turned around.

"Oh come on dad I'm 10 you don't have to talk to me in the 'baby voice'." I said while smilin and putting quotes around 'baby voice'.

"Why not? I'm allowed to do what I want." He said. I laughed and turned back forward.

"I really want to fly dad." I told him once we both stopped laughing.

"I know. Your mom and I are still working that out."

"Think about it dad! If I could fly, it would be easier on both of you." I persuaded.

"Mercy let me convince your mother and then we can go from there, deal?"

"Deal." I grumbled and faced forward, looking at the horizon. I saw the tip of a pointy mountain peer over the water. Well, here we are. Right back home at Berk.

It took only about 10 more minutes to get on the island. Once we landed I got off Toothless and everyone cheered for our return. Lots of villagers swarmed around me, asking me questions about what happened.

"I'm gonna just go." I said and backed away from the crowd, then ran once I was out from the swarm. I ran all of the way back to my house, slammed the door shut, and ran upstairs. I slammed my room door shut and slipped a piece of wood in between the door and the handle, making it unable to open my door from the outside. I took a deep breath and turned around, and saw a box on my bed. It had a card sitting nicely on top with my name written on the front. I picked up the card and unfolded it. It said,

Dear Mercy,

I don't know when you will see this, but I wanted to say happy birthday. I just can't believe you're ten years old now. You've done so much in those years and I couldn't be happier with who you've become. I spent all of the time you were gone in the forge making you this gift, in hopes of you seeing it on your birthday. I never said you wouldn't come back. Because you're a Haddock. And you're the strongest, most couragous Haddock I've seen.

I love you Mercy.

Happy birthday.

I looked at the note and dropped to my knees. I started to tear up a little bit, but then shook it off and stood. I looked at the top of the box. I slowly opened it and peered inside. My jaw dropped. I pulled out the pieces of it and stared at them in awe. Dad made me a flight suit. Just like his. I smiled and quickly put it on over my normal t-shirt and leggings. As I slipped into the last piece, I looked at myself. It was a perfect fit, and a mixture of red and black, with the Berk crest on one shoulder and the strike class symbol on the other.

But I realized something.

I don't know how to work this thing.

I pressed random spots on the armor, looking for ny sort of button. I pat my mid-torso and the back fin sprung out, causing me to fling forward. I landed face down on the wood, causing a loud thud to ring through the house. 

"Okay. So that releases the back fin." I mumbled to myself as I peeled myself up. Okay, time to find the wings. I looked around my arms and legs, and noticed some little loops on my legs. They looked about the size of my arm. "I wonder." I whispered and slipped my hands through the loops, and pulled my hands outward. My wings shot out and made me jump and stand straight up.

Hiccup's POV

I walked into the house quietly, followed by Astrid. We sat at the table and started talking.

"You think she'll be alright?" Astrid asked

"Oh yeah she'll be fine. She just needs some time before talking about it." I said. Astrid sighed.

"When do we tell her she's gonna be an older sister?"

"We shouldn't pile things onto her too fast. We'll tell her within the next 2 days." I said. We heard a loud thud come from upstairs.

"What was that?" Astrid asked.

"Sounds like she found my gift." I said and leaned back in my chair.

"Gift?"

"I made her a flight suit for her birthday. She's always wanted to fly and this is another way for her to spend time with dragons. Learning how to ride them and all that stuff."

"Who's dragon will she do that with?"

"Well I think Toothless knows how the suits work the most, so she can go with him. I'll have his tail on auto constantly just in case she wants to leave when I'm out chiefing or something."

"Hiccup I'm not comfortable with that."

"Astrid one way or another she's going to get out there on a dragon. With or without our permission. The only thing we can do is let her." I said. Astrid looked at her hands on the table. "I know you're nervous but think about it. Toothless will stop at nothing to get to her. To protect her. Same with Stormfly. She'll be safe with one of the dragons." I said and she looked up at me.

"Okay, she can ride Toothless but you have to teach her how to do it properly." Astrid said and stood up. I smiled.

Mercy's POV

Okay I know how to work the suit, now all I need to do is see how it flys. I sat on my bed and thought on ways to get myself in the air. I peeked out the window and saw Toothless sleeping below my window.

"Hey bud." I whispered. He opened his eyes and looked at me. "Wanna go fly?" He stood up and shook his back. I went to my door, removed the wood plank and jumped out my window, landing on his back. His tail was already in automatic, so all we had to do was take off. I grabbed the handles. "Alright Toothless, nice and slow okay? I'm probably not very good at this." He slowly glided into the air.

I looked at the village beneath me. It looked so small from up here. We circled around the island a few times to let me get the hang of flying. Once I go it, Toothless flew out towards the ocean and up into the clouds. We were completely surrounded by clouds, The ones above me had a pink tint and faded into white at the bottom. 

"Welcome aboard dragon rider." Allysa said as she popped her head out of a cloud in front of me.

"AH! Oh for the love of Thor Allysa you scared me!" I said. She laughed.

"Sorry but I had too. It's initiation." She joked and smiled. "So how does your first flight feel?"

"This is awesome. I feel bad though, I snuck Toothless out of the house."

"Nah don't tell your dad I said this but he was gonna tell you today that you can fly with Toothless whenever. You didn't hear it from me though." She said and looked forward again.

"Wait really?"

"Yep. And what's that new get up you're wearing?"

"Oh I found it today. It was my birthday gift from dad. Look!" I said and slid off Toothless like dad's done and slid my arms through the loops. I pulled my arms and the wings flung out, and I glided through the air. I pressed that little back fin button and steadied myseld. Oh my gods this is AMAZING!

"Nice!" Allysa shouted. Toothless came behind me and fired shots below where I was flying.

"Woah what are you-! Oh. Thanks Toothless!" He gave me a little smile. Allysa and Violet glided on my right and Toothless on my left.

"So I'm assuming this means WOAH-!" Allysa shouted as a boulder flew righ above her head. "What in Thor's name was that?!"

"I think it was a boulder." I said. "But where did it come from?"

"I don't know but we aren't sticking around to find out." She said and Violet turned herself around. "You're coming back right now."

"You don't have to tell me twice." I said. "Toothless some on we gotta get out of here!" I shouted and he flew under me and I sat on his back. I looked back at where the boulder came from and didn't see anything but ocean.

We got home and I snuck into my room through the window. I packed away my suit and laid on my bed and acted like I was reading a book. I was interrupted when someone barged in downstairs. I went down and saw Allysa talking to my parents.

"Oh it was so weird!" She said.

"So when you were flying, by yourself, a boulder came out of nowhere and almost hit you and Violet?" Dad asked. I smiled.

"Yeah it was so weird. I didn't stick around to find the source but you're all about weird stuff so this could be something you would enjoy." She said and looked over at me and winked. I smiled and gave her a small thumbs up.

"That's weird but we can't worry about that now it's getting colder and we need food in case of any storms. Gather the others at the academy, I'll be there in a second." Dad said and Allysa walked out, followed by mom.

"Oh hey you found my gift." Dad said as he turned around noticed me standing at the base of the staircase. "Does it fit alright?"

"It's perfect!" I said happily.

"Before the weather gets too cold I'll have to teach you how to use it. Because your mom and I decided to let you fly with Toothless or Stormfly." He said.

"Wait really?!?!" I exclaimed. Well, fake exclaimed. I already knew. Hehe.

"Yep. I'll teach you tomorrow. Well, as soon as I can." He said.

"I understand. Chiefing, winter coming, Bucket's bucket getting tighter and all that."

"Wait what about Bucket?" He said and turned around.

"You didn't hear?" He nodded his head. "Mulch has been getting as many sources as he can. Apparently we've got a storm coming and it won't be pretty."

"Mulch said that?"

"Yeah he told the whole village. It was when I just gotten back I heard him pass the back of the house."

"Oh great. I need your help getting people into the Great Hall." He said and opened the door.

"Okay." I said and followed him, then pulled the door shut.

"Mercy!" Someone shouted from behind me. I turned around and saw Cody.

"Oh hey Cody!" I said.

"Glad to see you're alright, you kinda ran off from that crowd." He said.

"Yeah I don't really want to talk about everything that happened."

"I can see why. It's not the best topic."

"Not at all. I gotta get people to the Great Hall, wanna come with?"

"Yeah I probably should, I don't know where the Great Hall is."

"Alright follow me. We just have to tell people there's a meeting."

"Seems easy enough."

/~at the Great Hall~\

"Alright people please settle down!" Dad shouted as he stood on top of a table. "So as you may have heard, a storm is coming. I'm not sure how bad yet but we need people to stock up their homes with food. We'll be boarding windows later today."

Everyone talked amongst themselves.

"Just stock your house and once that's done, cover the windows. Okay?"

Everyone nodded and flodded out of the Great Hall. I stood up and started walking to the door when I was joined by Cody, Agnes and Ethan.

"Oh hey guys." I said.

"Hey are you alrigt?" Ethan asked.

"I'm fine."

"Well you did kinda just get back from being kidnapped." Agnes said.

"And we aren't going to talk about it for a while. So where are you guys staying during the storm?"

"Allysa offered me her spare room for the time of the storm." Cody said.

"We're staying with Ruffnut and Tuffnut." Ethan said. Oh gods double twins quadruple trouble.

"That's going to be interesting." I said.

"Wait so who's this?" Agnes said as she inspected Cody.

"That's Cody. I met him wehn I was kidnapped, and we escaped together."

"Yep." He said when I finished.

"Let's jsut stock up our houses." I said adn walked to the food storage.

Hai guys.

So tomorrow is a busy day.

So first from 9:30-11:30 I have a car wash to raise money for my school dance team, then I'm seeing the boxtrolls, then I'm cleaning my house, decorating the inside of my house for halloween, and then I have time to write.

But it might end up being like 11 at night when I'm done with all of this.

So the modern hiccstrid story is up on my profile I wanted to try something a little new so if you could check that out you would be the best readers ever (not that you aren't already)

It's literally just called hiccstrid in high school i couldn't come up with any clever titles
