Chapter 27
Mercy's POV
I was riding on Toothless as he walked because my leg isn't healed enough for me to walk yet. We walked through the village when someone landed next to me.
"How's the leg?" Allysa asked me as she landed and walked beside me.
"I think it's doing better. I still can't walk yet though."
"So have you flown with Toothless yet?"
"Uh what do you mean?"
"Your father leaves you with a Night Fury everyday and you're telling me you haven't been tempted to fly with him?"
"Well I mean it has crossed my mind but dad would get really mad."
"Look, he's said it himself, the safest place for you or anyone, is on Toothless. He knows that he has to be careful with you and to be hinest, Toothless wouldn't let you do anything crazy." She said. I looked at Toothless and he gave me a little nod.
"One more problem, I don't know how to set his tail."
"Ah well you're lucky you're with me." She said and walked over to me left foot and pushed a lever forward. Toothless's tail opened up. "I'll go with you." I started getting seond thoughts.
"Wait we should at least tell my dad I mean it's his dragon."
"Okay we'll tell him but I'm gonna get you flying by yourself on a dragon." She said and we walked to the Great Hall.
Hiccup's POV
"The shaking was completely natural. Just Earth doing what Earth does." I said to a frantic Queen.
"Well it was very frightening and a very rude awkening."
"There really isn't anything I can do about that."
"Mom stop it was natural just leave it." Merida butted in. Elenor took a deep breath and walked out ofthe Great Hall, leaving me with Merida.
"How have you possibly dealt with her your whole life?"
"I'm actually not quite sure. So I really haven't seen you in forever. I think we met when we were like 4 right?"
"Sounds about right." I said anf flopped into my chair.
"What's changed in yyour life?"
"Well besides me training a dragon, loosing a leg, meeting my mother, loosing my father, getting married and having a child, nothing."
"Well you surely aren't a shrimp anymore."
"Oh come on was I really that small?"
"You were about the size of your fathers arm. Well, the top half."
"Yeah and that didn't change until I was about 20." We both laughed.
"Why were you so small?"
"To be honest I'm not sure. Some say it's because I was cursed by the gods and others say I was born too early."
"Both of those sound ridiculous." She said. We both burst into laughter, but were shortly interrupted by the doors swinging open.
"Hiccup come on we wanna have a dragon race but we need the chief there." Astrid said and started pulling me out the door.
"Okay hold on where's Toothless?"
"Right here!" Mercy said and walked up to us. "I think I might be able to walk now." She stated bravely and attempted to stand, only to wince and fall in pain. I caught her arm when she was about 3 inches from the ground.
"You're not walking anywhere. You'll ride with Toothles and I." She nodded and I lifted her onto the saddle. "And besides, you love flying." We flew into the air and towards where I usually sit during races.
I say the word usually because sometimes I go my own way, and actually compete. We landed at out seats and sat down. I'll admit, I really did want to go out there and compete. I looked around to make sure no one was looking, and slipped out behind my chair and mounted Toothless. We flew low so no one saw us, until I heard the horn, signaling it was the last lap. I frantically look around for it, until I see it sling into the air. I see Astrid and Stromfly going after it, until I fly straight up and grab the sheep.
"HICCUP!" I heard her shout. I waved and flashed her a smile. I was pretty high in the air, so I decided to do a little stunt.
"Toothless hold the sheep!" I said and handed down the sheep. He grabbed it with all fours and I closed my helmet. "You know what to do bud." I said. He gave me the look that tells me he sorta knows what's going on, but after a minute he'll get it.
I locked his tail and he split his spines. I slid down the right side of the saddle and immediately opened my suit. We flew downward towards the baskets, and while we were passing over them, Toothless dropped the sheep into Astrid's basket and we landed at our seats. We quickly sat down as if we didn't do anything, and cheered with the rest of the people. Astrid landed in front of me.
"What was that little stunt?" She said as she walked over to me while the rest of the gang landed behind her.
"It seemed fun. And you know me when something sounds fun, I do it." I said and cracked a smile.
"He's got you on that one Astrid." Snotlout said from behind as he walked towards us. "Nice stunt Hiccup. Looked pretty cool."
"Pretty cool? Are you kidding?! That was amazing! With the flight suits aerodynamics it's like he's basically a-!" Fishlegs began.
"Easy there Fishlegs you're brain might ooze out of your ears looking like Astrid's yak nog." Tuffnut said. Everyone's eyes widened.
"What did you just say?" Astrid threatened.
"Easy babe." I said and held her back by her waist. I felt her kind of relax. "Tuff, not cool."
"Sorry." He said.
"But it is kinda true. You know it's true Astrid you said so yourself." Ruffnut said.
"When?" She asked.
"Just these past holidays you said you actually tried your yak nog and you said it was disgusting."
"Oh yeah I remember now."
"Wait what's the whole deal with Yak Nog what is it?" Allysa asked.
"Oh it's this horrendous drink I made back in the holidays a few years ago when we didn't know the dragons left to lay eggs." Astrid replied.
"She tried to come up with a bunch of new traditions and Yak Nog was one of them." Tuffnut said.
"And that stuff was funky. I got sick." Snotlout finished.
"What's so wrong about it?" Allysa asked.
"Well it's basically raw Yak, milk, and like an egg." Snotlout said.
"Don't forget it's chunky." Tuffnut said.
"And smells bad." Astrid finished. We all burst into laughter. "I think Hiccup was the only one that liked it."
"Well actually..." I hesitated.
"Spill it."
"I held it in my cheeks until you 'went to go spread more holiday cheer' as you put it, and I spit it on the ground in the forge." I said shyly.
"That's how to be a good boyfriend." Allysa chimed.
"Wait aren't they married?" Tuffnut asked.
"You idiot I'm talking about before when he first tried it!"
"Wait so you went back in time?" Tuffnut asked.
"TUFFNUT!" Everyone shouted.
"What these are good questions." He said and out emphasis on the word 'good'. Ruffnut walked over and smacked the back of his head.
"Tuffnut just stop talking." Allysa said. I turned to Astrid who looked like she was about to fall over from laughing.
"Astrid you okay?" I asked.
"Yeah I'm just laughing because this is hilarious!" She said and continued laughing.
"Um Astrid this is normal..."
"It is? Huh. I guess I need to pay more attention." She said and continued to laugh, but much softer and calmer now. As she was walking towards the gang, it hit me. Mood swings. How could I forget? She got them with Mercy and now our new one. I walked over and stood between Astrid and Allysa.
"Well it's getting late. Probably about time I went home. Astrid you coming with me or are you going to stay out?" I asked.
"Me and Allysa are gonna hang out for a bit but I'll be home before it gets too dark." She said.
"Not too late. I'll stay up and make sure you get home safely." I said and walked to Toothless, then we flew home.
Astrid's POV
"Why's he being all protective? Well, more protective." Allysa asked as we walked through town. We walked into her house for dinner.
"Well now that we're in a private place I can tell you. I don't want anyone else knowing yet." I said and sat down. She brought out two dishes. One had a chicken wing on it, and the other was a bowl of soup with chicken. "Ah you know me so well." I said and grabbed the bowl.
"So what is it that you don't want anyone else to know?" She asked and took a bite out of her wing.
"Well Allysa, I'm pregnant."
"REALLY?" She exclaimed. I simply nodded and she beamed.
"Wow you're more excited about this then I am."
"I love kids okay and that just means when you and Hiccup want date nights I get to take care of both children."
"Well probably by the time this baby is born, Mercy will be 10 or soon to be 10 so she wouldn't need much attention."
"She'll need attention though. Being a sibling of a brother and sister, it gets rough. Your parents forget about you and you go through some pretty hard times. Just try and pay attention to Mercy too, but also give her freedom." She said seriously. It was surprising how fast she could change from bursting with joy to extremely serious.
"I wouldn't even dream of not paying attention to Mercy. She's my first born child I love her to death and beyond."
"It's just a heads up. So I'm assuming Hiccup knows correct?"
"Yes he was the first one I told."
"And what about the others?"
"Hiccup will probably just have to make an announcement to the entire village. The bonus of being the chiefs wife everyone knows about your relationship." I said sarcastically.
"Well can't be as bad as being chief right? I mean he's the one that has to make the announcement."
"Yeah but I'll be right there along with Valka, Gobber and Mercy."
"If she can stand. That poor child she's gone through a lot these past few months." Allysa stated and took another bite of chicken.
"Yeah she's matured too. Like mentally. She thinks like a 15 year old."
"Well when you loose your memory and have a near death experience in your own home, it changes you." She said.
"You're right. I should probably get home, Hiccup will get worried."
"I'll walk you home. Just for safety."
/~at the house~\
"Thanks for walking me home Allysa."
"My pleasure. Sleep well!" She said and waved. I waved back and turned around, then walked into the house and saw Hiccup drawing in his little journal.
"What are you drawing?" I asked. He glimpsed at me with those piercing emerald eyes that melted my heart and soul every time they were on me.
"Just another quick night fury sketch nothing special." I went over and looked at it. It was a marvelous drawing of Toothless sleeping in the cove, hanging upside down on a tree branch. He didn't have his fake tail on.
"How long ago was this?"
"That was the night I trained him in the cove." Hiccup responded.
"Hiccup this is amazing. The fact that you remember every detail about that is incredible."
"Well how can I not remember he still does it. Along with our daughter." He says and pointed to Mercy, who was hanging from a beam by her feet. "Trust me I tried telling her to sleep on her back. She won't."
"Mercy can't you sleep like a normal human for once?" I said. She opened one eye and layed it on me.
"Well what the fun in that?" She said and closed her eye again. I looked at Toothless. Toothless then climbed up,and joined in. "See Toothless agrees with me." Mercy said without opening her eyes.
"Let's just go to bed. She'll move I'm sure of it." Hiccup said. I nodded and walked upstairs, then changed into comfy clothes. I climbed into bed and almost immediately, I was asleep.
