Chapter 12

Noah and Olivia occasionally checking the clocks of their pod for the time. Olivia went digging through a dresser for extra blankets that her and her husband don't use often. Noah just sat on the couch watching the door waiting for something to happen. Anything. Or rather someone.

They were waiting for Branch, their son. To come over and drop off their grandson since Gia's daycare didn't watch over eggs. Only babies and children. While Gia Grooves was trained and studied in child care and other relating subjects attached, trolling eggs were not included in her studies. She didn't take the extra classes since her college fund couldn't afford the full class package. Olivia and Noah were down for it when Branch sent them a message asking if they could babysit. Why wouldn't they want their grandchild around? It wasn't everyday they got the chance to be alone with their still in egg grandson.

" You made a egg nest before for Branch when I wasn't able to be around for months... How did you do it again? I'm not as good as you considering you were more involved than I could be during the egg months. " Olivia admitted.

" To be honest... I just threw blankets in box and tried to make it at least look kinda orderly before I actually asked for help. I wasn't doing that great winging it,Hun. " Noah confessed turning his head.

Olivia sighed gripping the small blanket she found in her hands. Her head hung low as her gazed fixed on the thin layer fabric. The Rock troll noticed the shift in the Pop troll's demeanor. He had seen this before. Countless of times. Everytime he did the urge to hug and chase those pesky thoughts of his wife's self doubt would wake within his being. Olivia and Noah didn't have the ideal life and upbringing they wanted when Branch's egg first rolled out of Noah's hair during Noah's return to the city. They had a long distance relationship with unfortunate circumstances keeping them apart for so long. Their family dynamic certainly wasn't the ideal they hoped to provide.

" Still... You know more about caring for eggs than me. I was only there in person for the last month of Branch's egg stage... I wish for there from the beginning." Olivia recalled regretfully.

" Olivia. The laws were different then. You- We did the best we could for our situation. You didn't miss everything. You were there for big stuff and the small stuff when you were in Rock. You were there when it mattered. Don't beat yourself up. Branch doesn't hold it against you. I was struggling until my mom just took over and teaching me the basics of egg care." Noah comforted.

" I know. I know but, I still feel like I was an absent mother. I was caring for other trolls' kids here and not with Branch's egg. I didn't really start feeling like I was actually bonding with him until he hatched then I left 4 months later cause of my visa. "

The Rocker stood up from his position on the comfortable couch never removing his gaze from the guilt carrying mother. Olivia turned her back still holding onto the blanket. She closed the draw then looked at other blankets in various sizes she took and laid out. Noah quietly walked over to her and placed an hand on her shoulder. However he got no reaction whatsoever. The silence in that moment didn't help. He redirected her turning her around until his lovely lady was facing him. Olivia eventually looked up at Noah.

" I understand that but, what I'm trying to say is you not being able to be around longer doesn't make you a bad mom and I didn't think you were one back then either. You handled Branch's needs better than me during those early 4 months. I was clueless. You did good. " Noah reassured.

A smile graced Olivia's face as she recalled the fond early days of Branch's life. Those four months were quite chaotic and up hill battle but, at the same time their baby was so precious. Craddling their baby boy who came out looking brighter shades of blue than he did now for the first time was always dear to her. It ignited something within Olivia that she worried she would fail to give. She may had already had parental instincts kicking in but, they kicked even harder and that bond she wanted felt instant to her heart. Just like other Rock troll babies Branch was a tiny and slowly getting more active terror not allowing an moment of peace but, they got a few laughs out of it.

" You were a good Dad too. Even though I did worry about you and our son, I knew everything would be alright cause well... You were there. Reading your usually weekly letters was always something I looked forward to. Using your culture words here. You kicked ass. "

" Woah! Language! Didn't know you had it in you!" Noah laughed. "Well I tried and Branch doesn't hate me so I'll take that win. "

Then he wrapped his arms around her waist and pulles her close. Juat like he used to when they were young. Within a second their lips briefly brushed against each other for a tender kiss. It ended as soon as it started but, for the old married couple it still felt a forever. After all their hardships, outdated traveling and citizenship laws and long distance they were still standing. Noah smiled at Olivia the same way he did when they first met and the day she first visited Valcano City just to see him and their out of wedlock egg.

" We got time. I still remember a couple good hacks."

Suddenly there was knock the door and it just opened revealing their one and only son. Branch's hair was tamed but, the wind ruffled it a bit. Branch was wearing another more covering outfit for his work again. Before it would be just a shirt most days but, now black fingerless gloves were added to hide his hand tattoos cause someone complained to HR about his hand tattoo imaginary. His t- shirt matched the gloves and went well with the blue somewhat ripped at the knees jeans. In Branch's one arm was Harmony who was getting her hair hand combined because it also got ruffled in the wind.

" Hey Dad. Hey Mom. Sorry. I'm in a rush and no time to explain everything. Poppy had an early meeting and this one needs to be at school before 8. Me and Poppy got held up for an half hour. " Branch walked in.

" Grandma! Grandpa!" Harmony chimed.

" Welcome to parenrhood. Hey Rockstar. " Noah chuckled then messed with his granddaughter's hair.

Harmony giggled hugging her Grandpa Noah's arm resting her head on him. Olivia's smile grew bigger as she walked closer to her son and granddaughter. She playfully tapped Harmony's pink nose earning another giggle from the little hugger. Branch kept grooming Harmony's hair trying to fix it so she would look more decent for the school standards while his daughter just enjoyed the simple action til he stopped. Not single complain came out. Just the trolling's gaze returning to her father before she heard her grandma's Hug Watch dig and hug attacked Branch's neck.

" Aww... Does she know yet?" Olivia pointed to Harmony.

" We told her this morning about her little brother. I'll tell you about it later. And Yes. Me and Poppy finally settled on a name and it's Aiden. "

Branch dugged into his hair and pulled out his son's egg towards his mother's direction. Olivia swiftly but, gently grabbed Aiden and craddled him in her arms. She was just excited to hold her grandson. Then Branch pulled out another troll egg from his hair. Two grandparents briefly glanced at the other egg before returning their gaze to Aiden not processing yet what they just saw. For a moment Branch felt as if he could see the gears turning then suddenly stop in his parents' heads. The Rock troll grandparent whipped his head up first jaw dropped questioning reality. The Pop troll grandparent froze wide eye looking back and forth at Aiden then at the other egg three times whipping her head.

" I can explain but, not now. I'll be back with Poppy after work. Okay? Say "Good bye" to Grandma and Grandpa, Harmony." Branch handed the egg to his father.

" Bye Bye Grandma. Bye Bye Grandpa Noah. " Harmony waved.

" Gotta go. See you later. "

Branch hurried out the pod carefully dropping Harmony on his Beetlebike from Rock. Before his parents could even speak, he got on sitting behind his daughter using his one arm as a seat belt and took off. The older couple just stood there in silence with two eggs. One Rock and one Pop. They stared at the spot where their son's current critter once was as the minor dust cloud faded for what seemed to be several minutes but, in reality it was only one. Olivia blinked still in shock and slowly turned her head down to the extra egg they didn't agree to babysit. Noah looked down as well turning the small egg around scanning it with his eyes from every angle. It was indeed a Pop troll egg and obviously did not look like it came from their son and daughter in law. Silence was once again all Olivia and Noah heard.
