Old Memories

"Look! There's Niagara Falls!" Robin points. Ace hears the waterfalls before she spots them. Sure enough, the mighty falls were below her. From up here, Ace could see the little specks of tourists.

"That's so cool!" Peter exclaims, clutching Ace's scales as he leans over to see. Peter, Robin, and Shawn sat on Ace's back as she flew toward Toronto in dragon form. She had blended her underscales to match the sky, while her back matched the ground below. If they happened to pass an airplane, the passengers were less likely to notice them than if Ace had done the bright pink Shawn suggested. Each of them was able to fit extra clothes in backpacks, which were currently on their backs. Ace's backpack had morphed when she transformed, which was another benefit of her powers.

"We're about 15 minutes out. If you want a nap, I would recommend taking one now."

Ace glided quietly over the hills that would lead her home. She jumps slightly as a hand rests on her neck. Ace cranes her neck to look at her back. Robin and Shawn were both asleep, safely resting on her back frill. Peter was awake, looking at her curiously.

"You okay? Your scales were turning orange." Peter says.

"I'm just...worried. Worried how my old friends will react, if they still live there. Worried if my house is owned by someone else. It's been so long since I've been here." She admits, looking ahead once more.

"I know how you feel. When I got my powers, I was worried about May finding out and how she would react. But you're not alone. You have us." Ace smiles at Peter.

"Thanks, Pete."

"Anything for you...what's that?" Peter points to the ground below. A house stood in an overgrown field. It appeared to be very run-down, with the roof and walls showing signs of demolition and wear. The gravel drive was covered in grass.

"That can't be..." Ace dives forward, instantly waking up Robin and Shawn, who both scream and hang on. Ace lands heavily, not caring to be stealthy anymore. Robin, Shawn, and Peter barely have a chance to climb down before Ace is shifting to normal. Shock and dismay fill her blue eyes as she walks toward the torn-down house.

"My home...it's gone." Tears fill her eyes as Ace walks into her old home. She recalls her memories as she walks through the rooms. The kitchen, once filled with smells and noises, was now dark and bare. The living room only had a few items left in it, including Ace's old pink chair. She walks into her room and finds it in pieces. The once-purple walls were stripped of their color, and her dressers and bed were gone. Only the bed frame remained. Ace spots something underneath the bed and pulls it out. A dusty picture of her parents and her sat behind the broken frame. Ace also finds her favorite stuffed animal as a child, a little puppy with a blue bow she had named Steve, in honor of her very first "adult friend", as Ace used to say. She clutches the two items close as the tears begin to flow. Peter enters the room, finding her on the floor.

"Oh, Ace. I'm so sorry." Peter wraps his arms around her, pulling her close as she cries. Robin peeks her head in.

"You guys okay..." Peter shakes his head. Robin mouths, "Sorry.", and pulls Shawn away from the two.

"It's all gone, Peter. All of it." Ace sobs.

"Ace, look at me." Peter cups the girl's face, bringing her blue eyes to his. "This might be gone, but your parents aren't. They live on in memories you have. Just because one thing has faded away doesn't mean everything else has. Plus, you have a great family and friends who love you, no matter what happened in the past."

"Thank you, Peter, for being here."

"I would travel the world to be with you, Ace. I love you more than anything in the world."
