New Best Friend

Taehyung's POV-

Thank God I didn't have to do Chanyeol and Yoongi's stupid plan.

I mean, I would never tell Yoongi it was stupid (which is why I kept my mouth shut) but it was stupid.

Mine is more believable, more theatrical, and much better prepared.

If Mrs. Jeon taught me anything it was that it's better to be over prepared than getting halfway into your scheme and realizing you missed something.

So, with this in mind, I've spent the last three days doing my own prep for this because the information Koo and Yoongi, even what Chanyeol gave, was basically shit. It gave me nothing of use.

I did some investigating and networking on my own, which gave me far more to work with.

I was extremely happy when she was not on any of the machines and instead outside. I was actually hoping for that.

I was able to text Chim before I walked to where Yeri was, asking him to call me in two minutes, which he did.

Instead of using Chim's name I said it was Sehun, which would be a familiar name to Yeri to peak her curiosity.

To make her wonder what my connection could be to her favorite Oppa.

I answered the phone and walked inside.

As soon and I was in I thanked Chim for the call, walked over to a treadmill and started to walk (what a God-awful hobby this is) tapping around my phone absentmindedly as I waited for my new best friend.

It didn't take long for her to follow me in.

I watched out of the corner of my eye as she tried to casually get set up on the machine one down from me.

When she got it turned on I waited a few seconds before I moved my attention from my phone to her.

"Hello again!"

"H-hey. Sorry if I ran you off from Jungkook." She says as she pushes the buttons to increase the speed on the machine.

"Oh no, you didn't. I'm not a boxer. I would have been bored just sitting there. You look like you knew what you were doing though." I say with a grin.

"I have been trying to learn. It's kinda hard. He was going to help me, but I don't think he is anymore..." She says with a pout.

"I'm sure he'll still help you! We may not be as close as we once were, but I know he's a good guy. I'm sure he'd be happy to help." I smile.

"Oh, you did say you haven't seen each other for a while. Are you not friends?"

Perfect question Yeri. Well done.

"We were pretty close up until I had to move away in high school. I hadn't seen him for a couple years. That's why I was mad when he saw me and didn't say anything about my hair. Dumb boy." I shake my head in mock disappointment.

"You kind of expect people to notice when you have a color other than your natural one no matter how long it's been since they've seen you..." I say with a sad sigh.

She giggles, "Yah, that's so mean! I like your hair! If my friends wouldn't have noticed when  I dyed mine I would have been so upset so I totally understand. I think you look hot with your blue hair."

She blushes and her eyes widen before turning her attention to the window in front of us. She just realized she said something out loud she didn't mean to.

Awesome, the anticipated over sharing has started.

I laugh happily. "Thank you Yeri, and I must say that I like your hair too. It looks perfect on you. You look like you could be an idol!"

"That's so nice! I want to be one so badly. That's actually why I'm here in Seoul. I might even get signed as a trainee for the same company as Sehun." She grins.

"Sehun? Oh Sehun?! That's so crazy! Do you know Suho too? He's another friend of mine at the company."

"I know Sehun-Oppa very well." She smiles, but her smile falters a little as she continues. "I don't really know any of the other guys there. Just Sehun Oppa. I heard you say his name and was curious and- I mean, I didn't mean to eavesdrop, but I heard you and I was wondering if you knew him. I didn't mean to be nosy, honest!"

"I don't think you're nosy so please don't apologize." I give her a soft smile. "I can't believe you are a trainee there! That's so cool. Are you going to be part of a group?"

"I really hope so but I haven't actually been signed yet. I'm basically still in the auditioning stage."

"I think you are going to do great. You look the part. You are quite beautiful." I smile sweetly.

She blushes while giving me a small smile.

"Thanks... A-Anyway, you must be so happy to be back with your best friend right?!" She bursts out, trying to change the subject from my compliment that's got her flustered.

"Oh... I wouldn't say we're best friends. We used to be. We used to be inseparable, but when you move away you don't always keep in contact with your friends. It's just not quite the same." I pout with a heavy sigh, simulating disappointment.

"I'm sorry. That would be very hard."

At this point I am so sick of walking on this goddamn machine, so I decide to continue my pouting and turn it off to go find somewhere to sit.

"Are you leaving?"

"It's just hard for me to talk about him. We used to be so close. Now I feel like I don't know him at all," I share as I step off the machine, still looking sad.

She turns hers off as well and she moves to stand by me. "There's a bench outside by the pool if you want to talk about it. I noticed that Jungkook walked out a few minutes ago and I haven't seen him come back up yet."

I scoff in feigned annoyance. "Of course he did. Why would he even bring me with him? You know, he invited me here to hang out and we weren't just bored in his apartment, we were uncomfortable.

"I never imagined I would be uncomfortable with my friend. We thought it would be the same as it was but it's just not. I don't even feel like I know him anymore. He's so different."

"Yeah, he's mysterious isn't he. Has he always been like that?"

"Yeah. I don't even know what he does to be able to afford this place. It seems expensive. When I asked what he was doing for work he said he got a part time job that pays well."

"That's a bit of an understatement..." She says a little under her breath.

I look at her with wide eyes and my mouth agape. "Do you know what he does?! Tell me tell me tell me!"

I place my hand on her arm and drag her to a set of the weird black benches that are by the weights.

"Yeah! He works for Min Yoongi!"

"MIN YOONGI?!" I yell before clamping my mouth shut as I look around to see if anyone heard, pretending to be embarrassed, before returning my attention to her and say in a softer tone. "Are you sure? How do you know?"

"Yeah! I saw them getting on the elevator. He bought Jungkook that apartment." She whisper yells.

I've been wondering how they were able to find out Yoongi even purchased both apartments.

If I were in their place– at least Yeri's– I would have assumed it was Koo's since he's the one who moved in and it is obviously separate from Yoongi's space.

Was it the realtor? Or did they ask someone like a building manager or someone directly?

Maybe I can get her to answer that for me at a later time.

"What a jerk! He didn't even tell me." I click my tongue in annoyance before I soften my expression and look at the ground. "Well... then again why would he tell me."

"Taehyung, you and I should be friends." She smiles softly at me, feeling bad that Koo makes me so sad.

Hell yes we should be! The Best of friends.

"Really?!" My face brightens at her suggestion. "You want to be friends with me?"

Yeri nods with a big smile. She really is a cute girl. Pitty she's working with the enemy.

"Yeah! Let's exchange numbers so we can talk. Maybe we can even get together this weekend to hang out! Give me your phone."

"Okay!" I move to my pocket knowing full well my phone is in the cup holder on the treadmill. "Oh, I must have left my phone over there. I'll be right back."

I stand up, weaving my way through the metal torture devices to get to the treadmill. I grab my phone, turning it off after picking it up.

I can't risk her taking my phone to put her number in, being nosy with my texts and other contacts, or God forbid a text comes through from Koo or Chanyeol while she has it.

I don't need to do anything out of the ordinary for her to think too much about.

I turn around so I am facing her direction with a disappointed expression as I stare down at my phone. I then make my way over to her as I frantically pretend to try to the device back on.

"I thought I had enough battery to last until I got home." I stick out my bottom lip a bit before I brighten my expression.

"I will give you my number and then text me your name and I can save it when I get it charged." I smile widely at my great, obvious, idea.

"Oh wow, good thinking!" She says as she unlocks and hands over her phone. "Or you could just open a new message and text yourself."

Don't mind if I do, friend.

I go to her text messages , quickly scrolling through, pretending to type my number as I snoop through her inbox quickly to see who she's been in contact with.

Possibly who my next friend at her company should be.

Just then a text from Seulgi comes in.

[Seulgi Unnie]

Did you see him?

What did you find out?

Call me ASAP

I send a text with her name to myself and hand the phone back to her.

"Okay well I guess I better go remind Jungkook that he didn't come alone when he came up here." I laugh sadly. "It was nice to meet you Yeri. I'm glad we'll be friends!"

"Bye Taehyung! Text me when you're phone is charged!" She waves excitedly as she puts her phone up to her ear.

I wave in return before turning around to make my way out of the room, hoping to walk slowly enough to catch at least part of the phone call She was just asked to make.

"Hi Unnie! I didn't talk to Jungkook but I think I found someone better!"

Perfect, she's talking loudly enough that I'm able to stand just outside the entrance and listen without her seeing me.

"Yeah, he knows Jungkook!"

She pauses.

"No they aren't really friends. He didn't even know what Jungkook does for work."

She's silent again as the other person talks.

"Yeah I don't know. His name is Taehyung."

Another pause.

"Yeah the one with blue hair that he goes to class with."

Ah, so they do know about me.

Really it was to be expected since I figured they've been watching Koo.

"Yeah, they were right. They did go to school together but they aren't close anymore. He moved away in high school."

Amazing job Yeri. I couldn't have written a script more perfect than what she's telling Seulgi on her own.

"No, I promise. I don't think Jungkook will ever want to talk to me again after he saw me with you but now with Taehyung we will have a different way to help Irene with that meanie Yoongi!"

More silence.

"Okay Unnie I'll be down in a bit. Bye!"

I make my way into the lap pool area to be out of sight while she gets in the elevator.

While I wait I turn my phone back on and text Koo.

[Koo]

I think it's time we go our separate ways Koo.

I have a new best friend.

After waiting about ten minutes to make sure the coast is clear I head back to the apartment.
