Song of the Chapter - (Day and Night, Jung Seung-Hwan)
Y/n POV
I sighed and stared at the ceiling, thinking about what happened earlier at school. I tossed and turned on the bed before getting up. I sat on my bed and ruffled my hair in frustration – why can't I forget Chaeyoung? I was pretty sure it was just an infatuation I had for her.
Flashback
"Y/n, why are you ignoring me? Is it because I said something that hurt you?"
End flashback
"Get out of my head," I groaned before lying down, burying my face in my pillow. I sighed and closed my eyes, trying to sleep.
After five minutes, it didn't work. This can't do it – I don't think ignoring her would help with anything. Then, I decided to do something about it and grabbed my phone from the nightstand.
I scrolled through my contact list, which only has around 20+ saved in it and stopped once I saw Jennie's name. I called her, and after a few seconds, she picked up.
"Hello, Jennie speaking."
"Can I have Chaeyoung's number, please?"
"I – wow, straight to the point, huh?"
"I'm sorry, but this is urgent."
"Alright, alright... geez, I will text you the number."
Jennie ended the call, and a minute after that, she sent me Chaeyoung's number. A small smile formed on my face as I sent a thank you GIF to her before dialling Chaeyoung's number.
It rang for a while before Chaeyoung finally picked up the call.
"Hello, who is this?"
"Oh, hey! It's me, Y/n."
"Oh, hey Y/n, what's up?"
"Nothing much... I would like to know if you want to meet up tonight."
"Oh, sure! Where do you want to meet up?"
"Hang on, I will text you the location."

I went to the place where Chaeyoung and I agreed to meet and looked around me. I got there earlier than her, so I decided to sit on one of the swings while waiting for her.
I started to count the people that walked past the park, "1... 2... 3... 4..."
*30 minutes later*
"67... 68... 69... 70... 71..." I sighed before lowering my head. Thirty minutes passed, and there was still no sign of Chaeyoung. I tried to stay optimistic and convinced myself that she was just getting ready, and that's why she was not here yet. I decided to continue counting people who walked past again, "72... 73... 74... 75..."
Six hours passed, and I finally concluded that Chaeyoung won't be coming. "20389... 20390..." I counted the last few people before finally getting off the swing. I sighed and looked at my watch – I was shocked when I found out it was almost 3 in the morning. "Wow, I really outdid myself this time," I mumbled before leaving the park.
As soon as I returned to the hotel, I immediately went to my room, took my jacket off, and went to bed.
*The next morning*
I woke up the next morning with a slight cold, but I forced myself to get up from bed and got ready for school. As soon as I entered my class, our teacher looked at me and sighed, "it's 9 a.m., Y/n. Why are you so late today?"
I sniffed and bowed to the teacher, "I'm sorry, sir," I said with a slightly raspy voice.
"Just, what did you do last night that you woke up so late today?"
Rose POV
I stopped what I was doing when Y/n entered the class and focused on him. Surely, he didn't wait for me last night, did he? I was pretty sure that he tried to pull a prank on me last night, that's why I didn't go.
"I uh..." Y/n sniffed again and looked at me before clearing his throat, "I was playing League of Legends so much that I lost track of time," he said to the teacher, and he sighed, shaking his head. The other students laughed at Y/n's answer, and I found myself snickering at his answer too.
The teacher crossed his arms and sighed, "You should've used those times you wasted playing games by studying, Y/n. Must I remind you that you placed 37th out of 38 students that are in this class last time?"
"No, sir. I am aware of my academic performance last time, and I am trying my best to improve."
The teacher nodded, "good. Please take a seat. We need to finish this chapter today," he said before picking up his textbook from the table. Y/n bowed at him before walking towards his seat.
"Y/n, wait," I grabbed his wrist as he walked past my seat.
"Let go, please," he sighed softly, but I ignored him. I cleared my throat and continued to ask him.
"Were you serious when you asked to meet up last night?"
Y/n didn't say anything. Instead, he gently took my hand off his wrist and continued to walk to his seat. I watched him do so and started to wonder if he was serious last night. I shook my head and turned around, facing the teacher.
"Dude, how long did you wait last night?" asked Jin.
"Knock it off, Jin. I don't want to talk about it."
Author POV
It was finally the third class for the day, and Y/n was feeling sleepy.
"Alright class, I will be dividing the teams for the project. Remember, I assigned these teams based on their performance, and how well they get along."
Y/n POV
I went in front once it was my turn and took a piece of paper from my homeroom teacher's hand. "Remember, only open the paper when I say so," he reminded. I nodded and returned to my seat, praying in my head that it was not Chaeyoung that I am partnered with.
"Park Chaeyoung, it's your turn," our homeroom teacher said, and I watched Chaeyoung take the piece of paper and return to her seat. "Alright, now, I want everyone to open the piece of paper, and without saying anything, I want you to go and sit beside your partner," he added, and we started opening the neatly folded paper.
Rose POV
I prayed that it was Chanyeol that I was partnered with, but when I unfolded the paper, the name written on it was way different than what I wanted. I sighed softly and looked at Lisa, who had just put her paper on her table.
She looked at me and smiled, "who is your partner?"
I was about to answer when someone covered my face with a book, "can you sit with your partner, Lisa?" it was Y/n who did it.
"Sure thing," Lisa answered as I heard her getting up from her seat. The book was still covering my face when she walked away. It wasn't long after that when Y/n sat on her seat and took the book away from my face.
"Why did you do that?" I asked, but Y/n didn't say anything. After that question, I gave up on talking to him after that, so we just sat in silence.

After fifteen minutes, I finally decided to start a conversation, "hey, Y/n..." I tapped his shoulder. He looked at me with raised eyebrows, "about the project, when do you think we can start?"
Y/n shrugged and crossed his arms before leaning against the chair, "I think we can start tomorrow," he said, making me blink a few times.
"Tomorrow? Why don't we start tonight instead? I will come to your place," I replied.
He looked at me and tilted his head, "tonight? Well... the thing is, I don't want to embarrass myself again," he said, flashing a small smile.
"What do you mean by that?"
Y/n rolled his eyes before turning his whole body to face me, "come on, Chaeyoung. You know exactly what I mean," he said, but I was still confused. He sighed and crossed his legs too, "remember how you didn't come to the place we agreed to meet last night?"
"You were serious about meeting last night?" I asked.
Y/n scoffed, "well, duh!"
I sighed and stared at the floor for a while before looking at Y/n again, "I feel like a jerk now... I'm sorry, Y/n."
He shook his head and turned his head to look at the whiteboard where our teacher wrote 'BRAINSTORMING SESSION' a minute ago. "There's no need to apologize," he said before sighing. "Send me your address. I will pick you up tonight," he told me before walking away.
Not long after that, Chanyeol walked past me and sat on Lisa's seat with a frown, "how can you spend more time with that guy when it was supposed to be me, your boyfriend?" he asked.
I stared at him for a second before giggling – in case you wondered what happened, Chanyeol basically asked me out as soon as I said I know he liked me yesterday, so, we were basically a couple now.
"Don't tell me you are jealous," I teased.
Chanyeol looked away from me and turned his face towards the window instead, "shut it..."
Y/n POV
I told myself to suppress the jealousy that I felt when I saw the way Chaeyoung and Chanyeol interacted – it's not easy to see someone you like being all sweet and lovely with other people, but there's nothing I can do.
I sighed before resting my head on my table, closing my eyes in hope that the day would go faster if I fell asleep.
It worked, and when I left the school at almost four in the evening, I went somewhere I wished I didn't have to. I stood in front of the house, thinking if I should enter, or should I just go back to the hotel.
After thinking about it for ten minutes, I finally decided to enter. I walked towards the front door and to my surprise, it wasn't locked – as if the person knew that I would come today. I pushed the door open and looked around before entering the house.
"I'm home," I announced, though it felt weird to call it home.
A voice came from the kitchen, "is that really you, Y/n?"
I sighed and took my shoes off before walking towards the kitchen, "who else would it be?"
A lady emerged from the kitchen and walked towards me, "finally, you are home!" she cried before pulling me for a hug.
I let her hug me, but I didn't hug back. "I will be having a friend over tonight," I told her, getting straight to the point.
"Is that friend a boy, or a girl?" she asked, not minding my straightforwardness.
"Look at you~ You finally got yourself a girlfriend!" she teased.
I groaned and broke the hug, "mom, she's not my girlfriend, okay?"
"Alright, whatever floats your boat," my mom said before disappearing into the kitchen. I rolled my eyes and followed my mom into the kitchen.
"So, is it a yes, or no?"
My mom paused on her step and smiled at me, "of course, you can bring your friend over. As long as they are respectful and know basic manners," she said before walking again.
Rose POV
The time was already half past six, and just like Y/n informed me through his text, he arrived just in time. However, instead of a taxi picking me up like I was expecting, a black sedan pulled up on our driveway and Y/n got off the car, looking at me.
"Get in," he said to me before getting back inside the car. I didn't say anything as I simply listened to him and sat on the passenger side.
The drive to Y/n's place was quiet for the first few minutes, but then we started to talk.
"I miss you," he blurted out suddenly.
I looked at him in shock, "you what?"
Y/n stopped at the red light and looked at me, "I miss you," he deadpanned.
I chuckled and shook my head, looking at the long line of cars waiting for the light to turn green. "You shouldn't joke about things like that."
"Who said that I'm joking?" he replied before stepping on the gas as the light finally turned green.
"Oh..." I cleared my throat, "you were serious," I mumbled before taking a glance at him, and then focusing on the view in front of me.
"Yes, Chaeyoung. Dead serious," the drive was quiet again after that.
Thirty minutes passed, and when Y/n pulled up at a big bungalow's driveway, I looked at him with wide eyes, "you... you live here?"
Y/n stopped the car and unbuckled his seatbelt before looking at me, "no. I live under a rock somewhere in this bungalow's lawn," he answered before getting off the car. He ran to my side and opened the door for me.
Skip~
"I'm going to take a shower first. Feel free to explore the house," said Y/n before walking towards the stairs leading to the second floor. I didn't get to answer him before he disappeared, so I decided to just walk around the hall.
As I walked around the hall, I stumbled upon a picture in a huge frame – it was Y/n and two other people.
"Those are Y/n's cousins," I gasped when I heard someone's voice appearing beside me. I looked at the owner of the voice and saw a woman in her 40s standing while smiling at me. "You must be Y/n's friend, right? I'm his mother."
I bowed to her before introducing myself, "my name is Park Chaeyoung, but most people call me Rosie," I said, smiling at Y/n's mother.
"Rosie? Where did that nickname come from?"
"Ah, right. My English name is Roseanne Park, ma'am."
Y/n's mother nodded and crossed her arms, "so, tell me," She walked closer to me, "are you my son's girlfriend?"
"Ah, no, ma'am. I'm not his girlfriend. We are classmates."
She nodded, though she was eyeing me like I was lying to her. "Sure," she said before taking my hand softly, "come with me," Y/n's mother took me to a room at the end of the hall.
When we entered the room, I was amazed by how beautifully organized it was. "This study room used to be Y/n's," she explained as we walked around the room. Mrs Kang picked up a book from one of the boxes in the corner and examined it, "but he hasn't used it for the past four years," she sighed.
I walked towards her, "Y/n was a bookworm?"
Mrs Kang looked at me, smiling. "More or less," she answered before putting the book down, "but like every other boy his age, they grew out of it," she added with a sigh. After a while, she cleared her throat, "I will get you guys something to drink. Make yourself at home," she said before leaving the room – I wondered how Y/n can be quite an ass when his mother was so sweet.
After his mother left the room, I started to browse the bookshelves before finally settling on a chair. The table wasn't dusty like I expected despite being abandoned for four years, and there was a picture on the table – a picture of Y/n.
I found myself smiling while looking at the picture, and I immediately shook my head.
"Oh, there you are," Y/n's voice rang from the door, and I turned to look at him. He was wearing a black shirt paired with matching shorts. He walked towards me while drying his hair using a small towel, "did my mom give you a hard time?"
I shook my head and got up from the chair, "no, she didn't," I answered before grabbing the towel from his hand. "Sit down," I told him, and he obeyed, sitting down on the chair.
"The way you dry your hair will damage your hair," I said before helping him dry his hair gentler than the way he did it.
