Song of the Chapter - (Lights Out, EXO)

Your POV

Chaeyoung released me from the hug when Jimin called her. She got up from the floor and went to the door where he was waiting for her. I sighed softly and wiped my tears as the memory of the time I talked to my mother before she passed away played in my head.

Flashback

"Y/n, can you sleep with me tonight?" asked my mom, patting the empty space on the bed beside her – she texted me a few minutes ago that she wanted to tell me something, so here I am.

I nodded and went to her bed, lying down beside her. I took a deep breath before looking at her, "mom."

She hummed and looked at me with the sweetest smile ever, "yes, sweetheart?"

I scooted closer to her and hugged her tightly, "you must survive this, okay? You did once, so I know you can do it again," I said, my voice cracking.

There was a pause before she replies. "Of course, I promise you," she said softly, and I sighed, tightening the hug – I felt like a little kid clinging onto her, but I was convinced that this would be the last time I can do such a thing. "Y/n, remember when I went through a similar thing when you were younger, you couldn't stop crying for days?"

"Of course, I remember! I cried for two weeks thinking you might leave me!" I replied.

"Yet I was still there after two weeks, right?" she sighed. I closed my eyes and leaned closer to my mother – I wanted to cry so badly, but I must be strong. I knew she wouldn't like seeing me being very vulnerable in front of her.

"I'm going to sleep now. Good night, Y/n."

"Good night, mom. I will cook something special for you tomorrow, so you must wake up, okay?"

My mother giggled, "is that so? Then I really must wake up tomorrow then."

It took me a while to fall asleep – the thought of my mother leaving me so soon kept me awake, but after an hour, I finally fell asleep.

The next morning, I woke up, hoping she would be awake, smiling at me but instead... I saw her, not breathing. "Mom... wake up... please..." I began to worry.

The next morning, I woke up with the hope that she would be awake, filled with energy as usual, but when I looked at her, I started to get anxious. "Mom, wake up..." I said as I shook her body. I tried shaking her body, but there was no response.

I quickly got off bed and called Doctor Lee, our family's doctor.

Half an hour later, he arrived. I left my mother's room, anxiously waiting for Dr Lee, and after a few minutes, he walked out of the room. I didn't dare say anything since the sadness on his face already answered everything I wanted to know.

He walked towards me and put his hands on my shoulders, sighing heavily. "Y/n... I know you wanted to hear positive news when I walked out of the door, but as you have already known, your mom... she is..."

I sighed and finally let my tears out before nodding, "she's gone, right?" I sobbed.

End Flashback

"Eomma!!!" I shouted as I ran back to the mourning room. "Eomma!"

I shook my head and got up from the floor, rushing towards the mourning room, "mom!" I cried as I continued to run.

Jin grabbed me by the wrist and stopped me, "Y/n, please don't do this!"

"No, my mom is not dead! This is not real!" I cried while trying to get Jin's grip off my wrist. "This is a dream... I know this is a dream," I sobbed.

Lisa rushed to my side and hugged me, "She's gone, Y/n... your mom is gone..." she sighed. "You must be strong. Your mom wouldn't like seeing you like this," she said, patting my head as I continued to cry while leaning my head against her chest.

Lisa POV

"Y/n, it hurts to see you cry, so please, be strong," I said as I continued to hug him.

Jennie walked towards us and knelt beside Y/n, taking his hand, "you have to be strong, Y/n."

After a few minutes, Y/n calmed down and we went to the mourning room – all of us as he started to tell us about his mother's disease and how she had been fighting it for years.

Your POV

It was raining at the burial ground, and everyone was using umbrellas to stay away from the rain, but I didn't – I just let myself get drenched. The pastor was talking to the crowd, but I didn't hear anything as I was focused on what was engraved on my mother's headstone.

'In loving memory of Park Jumi
Date of Birth: 5th October 1972
Date of Death: 23rd May 2018'

I sighed and looked away after a while before facing my friends – they were looking at me from underneath the canopy while smiling sadly.

"Y/n, we have to move out," said Jimin and I looked at him, tilting my head while furrowing my eyebrows.

"Huh? What do you mean?"

Jimin sighed and looked at me, "inside mother's will, she wrote that she wanted me to take you back to Guangzhou," I shot him a glare and shook my head.

"What? No. I'm not moving to Guangzhou with you," I retorted.

Jimin showed me an envelope, "but Y/n, it's all written in here," he said. Just when I was starting to get used to my mother's house, I must move to China. Of course, I would not do that.

"Well, then just ignore it."

Jimin sighed, "how can I ignore it, Y/n? This is not any other letter! It's a will, Y/n, a will! You must respect mother's wish!"

I slammed my hands against the table and got up, "no, hyung. I'm not moving to China. This is where I belong, so if you want to return to China, just go alone," I said before storming out of the dining room – it has only been a few days since mother passed, and it was already too much to handle.

Chanyeol POV

*The next day*

As I watched both Chaeyoung and Jungkook, I couldn't help but sigh. "Are you okay, Chanyeol?" I turned to Jongdae, who was asking me. I nodded before turning my attention towards Y/n – it was obvious that he was hurt. I mean, who wouldn't be if you see the person that you like being with someone else and losing your mother at the same time?

I got up from my seat and walked towards Chaeyoung and Jungkook before pulling the latter out of the class.

Jungkook sighed, crossing his arms. "What do you want, Chanyeol?"

"I want you to stop this. You are hurting Y/n," I sternly said to him. Jungkook scoffed and ignored me before turning to enter the class. I grabbed him by his collar and shot him a glare.

"Ignore me, and I will tell her the truth," I growled.

"Keep your mouth shut, Park Chanyeol, or..."

I scoffed and pushed him against the wall. "Are you threatening me? Come on – you and I both know each other's secrets, so if you are planning on spilling mine, then I will do the same. How's that? An eye for an eye."

"If having my secret revealed means Chaeyoung and Y/n could be happy, then that's enough for me."

Author POV

After school was over, Y/n went to the Han River. He walked around the bridge aimlessly before staring at the river.

Flashback

"Y/n, if you can chase me, I will buy you your favourite food!" his mother yelled before running around the park.

It was a memory from when Y/n was a little kid.

"Hey, mom! Wait up!" Y/n looked at her mother before running after her.

End Flashback

It was too much for Y/n to handle – he never thought things would get this worst after his mother passed away. "Mom, wait for me," he mumbled before climbing on the railing.

"Y/n!" a voice called out, and Y/n turned his head towards the person – it was Chaeyoung and his brother, Jimin. Behind them were his cousins, Kyungsoo and Xiumin.

Flashback

Jimin along with Kyungsoo and Xiumin waited for Y/n to come home. He would usually already be at home by then, but when he didn't show up, they started to get worried.

"We should look for him," said Kyungsoo. The other two agreed and drove off to Y/n's school.

When they arrived at the school, they went towards Jin and Baekhyun. "Do any of you know where Y/n is at the moment?"

The two exchanged looks before shrugging. "We haven't seen him. Why?"

"He is not home yet," Xiumin answered.

"Gosh, that kid..." Jin sighed before scratching his head in frustration.

Kyungsoo sighed, "do you guys know where he would usually goes?"

"We don't know..."

Jimin thought about it for a few minutes before clicking his fingers, "guys, the bridge – Han River! He might be there!"

They didn't waste any time as they immediately went to the bridge, and Jimin was right – Y/n was indeed there.

End Flashback

Chanyeol POV

After hearing the news about Y/n, I rushed to the hospital and went to his room. "Hyung!" I called as Xiumin looked at me, telling me to be quiet.

"Be quiet, he needs a lot of rest," said Kyungsoo as he approached me. I sighed and lowered my head – things could've been a lot easier for him to handle if Y/n knew about the truth, but because I was too scared to tell him, things turned out for the worse.
