"What did I do wrong that made you so mad at me?"
"I never even wanted to marry you! I just HATE a forced marriage! Don't you see we've never got along ever since we lived under the same roof?!?"
"We could try!"
"But you aren't cooperating with me!"
"Always 'you, you, and you'- Cranky is right, you really are a selfish monster!"
The eyes of a small child watched as his parents fought. Not once a year, a month, nor a day- but more than twice every single day.
The poor child was helpless. He'd been watching them fight ever since he was born to this world. There wasn't even a day when they were not putting their blame towards each other.
Most of the time, they put their blame towards him.
He did nothing wrong, for he's just like a passerby, watching helplessly and didn't even know how to lend a hand- he didn't even know what was a hand!
The poor innocent child still laughed every day, believing that his parents would make up someday. He had very high hopes- until the day he turned 5...
His parents didn't seem to quarrel that day, and that made his eyes sparkle with hope- they finally buried the hatchet? Golly!
The kid was happily dancing in the backseat. He knew this day would come.
"Quiet, you!" His father scolded. He looked innocently at his father as he shut his little mouth.
The child looked outside, the familiar surroundings seemed to have changed- the trees, the buildings- they seemed bigger.
The child was fascinated. He let out a small "woah..." as his father stopped the car.
He led him to a playground- a pretty boring one, though. And there, the child met more kids and they got along pretty well. The father gave him a red ball as he took it and played with them.
One by one, the kids returned home. And minutes till hours passed. The place became quiet and somewhat creepy, due to the dull colour scheme. The kid called his parents as he wanted to return home. But, he heard no reply- and when he turned around, they were already gone.
The kid was frightened. A five year old completely alone in this unfamiliar environment, he dropped his ball and cried for his parents. He was afraid, he was lost, he was... abandoned...
"Hey there little child," the kid heard a voice. "What are you doing all alone over here? And where are your parents?"
He looked up and saw a motherly figure looking gently and affectionately into his little eyes. And for the first time in his whole life, he felt warmth.
"They... They don't want me anymore..." The kid replied.
"Oh dear..." The woman let out a gasp of shock and sympathy. The kid could see her worried look on her light grey face. He had never experienced care before he met her. He was rather bewildered.
The woman let out a long sigh as she kneeled down to him.
"Don't you worry, my child." She said. "From now and onwards, I am your new mother. Whadda you say?"
The kid replied with a smile. He had never been happier. He had never smiled this wide.
"Mommy!" The kid exclaimed as he hugged her. She hugged back as he could feel some tears dripping onto his little shirt.
"Let's go home, my child." The woman said, rubbing off her tears as she led the kid back to her house. "What is your name?"
The kid smiled a gentle smile at her.
"Michael." he replied.
