Episode 23: Talk

Our entire group stood up as we noticed that Setsuko was approaching the boy who had defeated the nephew of our Universe's Queen.

"Where are you going?" asked Serrano, running after his future wife.

"Setty," Rosa said, frowning. Serrano, she, and I followed Setsuko to downstairs. The blue haired boy had already gone into the tunnel he had emerged from.

"I want to talk to that boy," she responded. "That guy owns a necklace unlike any that I've ever seen before."

Rosa tilted her head. "That's true."

I sorta wanted to talk to Eri too, but it wasn't because of his necklace.

"Master, wait up for Yuko!" Yuko yelled.

I paused and waited for her to catch up. "Want to do some sightseeing?" I asked.

Her face beamed as she nodded. "Of course Yuko does!"

"Hey, are those creatures angels?" I overheard someone whisper.

"I think so," someone responded them. "Wait, that one with the strange silver bracelet seems to be looking our way."

I smiled at the two kids staring at us. One of them was a boy with weasel eyes while the other was a girl with horse-like eyes. Something about them reminded me of Yuko.

"Kids, didn't anyone ever tell you that it's impolite to stare?" Maki scolded them.

The weasel eyed boy leered. "You're also like them, an angel."

Maki sighed. "So young and yet so misguided."

Misguided? What was he referring to?

"Don't let it bother you," Akane said as she walked behind us. "If you want to do some sightseeing then I can show you around. I'm no expert in Kyuu Seishinian culture but I do know a thing or two about it."

"Let me help too," Ximena said. "I heard a few stories from father. Though they're ancient ones so they might not apply anymore."

"Sure, we'll appreciate it," Serrano responded, grinning at his crush.

Setsuko narrowed her eyes at him.

"Sis, are you jealous?" Rosa whispered to her sister. She was smiling.

"L-let's go," Setsuko said, turning around.

"She's just like Maki," I whispered.

Rosa chuckled.

I felt my face reddened. I felt the urge to wrap my arm around her and kiss her forehead.

"Excuse me," Hyosetsu said as he walked between us.

"Where are you going?" Kohri yelled.

"To do some sight seeing."

"Okay. Just be back here in a few, okay?"

Hyosetsu scoffed. "Need I remind you that I'm the elder sibling here? If I need to, I will search for you from the air."

"Alright," Kohri said, nodding.

With that the sword knight left.

Meanwhile the rest of us made our way to interior of the arena. The walls were made of grey cement and lacked the ornaments that the school and the outer part of the arena had.

Setsuko kept looking around for the strange boy. "Where could he be?" Setsuko asked, running on ahead of us.

"Hey, don't run on ahead! We need to stick together!" Serrano yelled, chasing after her.

Everyone except for Yuko and Kohri left me behind.

So much for that...

"Where am I?" asked a child before I could go after them. I turned around and saw a honey-brown-haired boy running around.

Kun?

His turquoise eyes scanned the wide, dark halls. "Oh no... Kun and Yen aren't here!" he yelled.

Guess this is Kun's brother, Lei.

I sighed. "You go on ahead, I got something to take care of."

"Yuko will go with you," Yuko volunteered.

"Me too," Kohri said.

I ignored them and walked over to the boy. "Are you lost?" I asked.

The boy looked up at me. "Ahh, are you an angel?"

I recalled the words of the children from before, for some reason they seemed afraid of us. Mrs. Zettai also seemed alarmed at first until we revealed that we were from Zionia.

"Do you fear angels?" I asked as I put a hand on my hip.

The boy smiled. "Nah, I love angels." He tilted his head. "Plus, you kinda remind me of Papa. Say, you're the beings created by the youngest children of the Goddess, right?"

"Goddess?" Yuko asked.

"He's referring to the mother of the god and goddess who created our world and the seven angels. She is said to be the true origin of all light," Kohri responded.

Nori's eyes widened as Ximena and he returned for us. "The mother of the Sky Father and Earth Mother?"

"Right!" the boy shouted, jumping up and down. "So, why am I being graced by angels?" He stopped jumping once he noticed Yuko and Nori. "Wait, you aren't all angel. You're two are Kyuu Seishinian, right?"

Yuko and Nori nodded. "Well, actually no," she corrected herself. "Yuko is a Kyuu Hyakuian but she wasn't born in this country. Yuko is a Kurorikuian national."

"Same with Nori," the cat boy said, smiling.

"Woah, so you were born among the angels?" the boy asked as his eyes shimmered.

"Lei!" yelled a girl. A child who looked a lot like him made her way toward us. She had to be the other one Kun had mentioned, Yen.

"Ahh, I found you!" Lei yelled back, grinning at the girl.

The little girl pouted. "I am the one who found you. Now let's go back. I left Kun alone, he's probably lost now."

"Oh no," Lei said, following her. He suddenly stopped and turned around. "It was nice talking to you!"

"Kids," a blue-haired, icy-blue-eyed teenager called out. It was the same kid who had battled the Xelerian Prince, Eri Mikado. He glared at the two kids.

"Eri!" Lei yelled. "I was looking for you! You were awesome out there! You even defeated the Magus Maximus' heir!" He chuckled. "Does that make you the next Magus Maximus?"

Eri's frown faded, replaced by a smile. "I wish but the title wasn't on the line. If it was then Zyuuni probably wouldn't have given up as easily."

"Easily?" I asked. The guy kept getting up no matter what, if that was giving up easily then I would've hated to see what surrendering the hard way was.

Eri smiled. "Yup. That guy is known for never giving up." He ruffled Lei's hair. "Kind of reminds me of this kid."

Lei giggled. "I take that as a compliment."

"Hey," I said, pointing at his necklace. "Why do you have an angel tool?"

"This?" Eri asked, touching his necklace.

"My papa gave it to him!" Lei responded, putting his hands behind his head.

His father? Was Feng an angel too?

Eri removed the necklace. "Originally it belonged to my father but at some point he gave it over to my master." He looked down at Lei and smiled. "I think that it's time that it moves on to the next generation." He squatted and put the necklace around Lei's neck. "There, it looks good on ya!"

Lei's face beamed. Something about the child was like an angel, the ideal of them. The kid wasn't anything like the so called heirs of the angels whom I met in the palace back in my country.

I took out the rosary which I kept hidden under my armor. One day I would give the rosary over to the next generation.

Eri's eyes widened as soon as he looked up. "That rosary, that's the rosary of Hanketsu. Why are you in possession of one of the seven holy treasures?"

"He had it since we met," Yuko responded for me.

I nodded. "That's right. This rosary has been passed down in my family for generations."

"Is that so?" asked Setsuko as she returned with Serrano and Hyosetsu. Along with her was Rosalba of all people.

When did they find them?

"Who are you?" Eri asked, glancing at the knights and princess with suspicion. His eyes widened as soon as he saw Rosalba. "Ocarina?"

Rosa looked around. "Uh, are you talking to me? I'm Rosalba Kuroriku. I don't know any 'Ocarina', but I take it she looks like me?"

Eri shook his head. "No. You don't... yet why did you..."

Setsuko placed a hand over her chest. "I'm Setsuko Kuroriku, first princess of Kuroriku. I wish to speak to you about that necklace you..." She looked down and noticed that Lei was the one wearing it. "You gave such a relic over to this child?"

Eri crossed his arms. "I did, now why do you seem so concerned about it?"

"Because that necklace isn't a simple relic," Rosalba responded. She walked over to Lei and squatted until her eyes were at the level of his. She smiled. "Child, hand over that necklace to us."

Lei stepped back. "You're an angel but there's something off about you."

Something off about her? Does he mean that she's not to be trusted?

Yen stepped in between the two. "My brother won't hand it over."

Rosalba's eyes widened. "Something off about me?" she asked, furrowing her brow.

"W-why do you give off the same aura as Mama?" Lei asked.

Eri gasped. "Right! She resembles Harmonica too."

Rosalba backed away slowly. "What?"

I placed a hand on her shoulder. "I was freaked out too when I first heard it, but it seems that Harmonica and Ocarina are your doppelgangers. Not sure why you got two from Xeleria, though."

I glanced over at Yuko. Was Yuko the other one from Zionia? If so did I have a second one too?

Rosa jumped. "Don't! Touched me?" she said, closing her eyes.

"You did something bad?" Lei asked, staring at me with curious eyes.

Rosa let out a small whimper.

"I did no such thing! I'll... prove it!" I yelled.

"Wait," Setsuko said. "Let's talk about this someplace far from children's ears."

Rosalba gave me a slight smile as she wrapped her arms around her body. "I am disappointed in myself." She turned around and ran away.

"Wait!" I yelled.

Disappointed in herself? Why would she be disappointed in herself?

Setsuko turned around. "Hold it, Tetsuya. It was clearly a mistake to think to let you two embark on this mission together. I'll talk to her." She took one last glance at Eri. "I will talk to you later."

"Uh, sure," he said, fidgeting.

"Sorry about this," Kohri said, bowing. "I am not sure what Setsuko and Rosalba want with that necklace but it must be something important."

"It's fine," Eri said with a slight chuckle. "I have met plenty of oddballs in my life."

"It was nice meeting you," I said, waving at Lei. "By the way, don't let anyone that you don't trust get a hold of that necklace. It must be extremely precious if the likes of the Kurorikuian princesses wanted it."

Lei nodded. "I won't. I will only give this to one who I deem worthy of it. By the way, I think you should talk to that girl."

"You mean Rosa?" I asked, lowering my gaze.

"Yeah. I sense that she wants you to," he said. "Even though she doesn't at the same time."

I chuckled. "You're oddly mature for you age, well, kind of."

Lei laughed back. "I'm told that a lot!"

"I see," I said, ruffling his hair. "It was nice to meet ya, kiddo. Now, if you excuse me, I need to go talk to someone!"

"Good luck! May the Goddess bless you!"

*Rosalba*

"Wait, up, Rosa!" Setsuko said as she caught up to me. Serrano politely kept his distance away.

I came to a halt by a water fountain to catch my breath.

"I...I want to go back home," I muttered.

She walked up to me and placed a hand on my shoulders. She gave me the same look of pity as before. "I'll talk to Shin'en about getting you back home. In the meantime, please try to calm down."

I lowered my head. "It's not that easy... I wish it were, but it's not... "

"Hey, Setsuko, allow me to talk to her." I looked up and saw Tetsuya make his way to me. He was alone.

Serrano stepped forward, blocking his path. "Where do you think you're going?"

"Move out of my way! I need to talk to Rosalba. Setsuko and you can keep a safe distance from us like how you were doing."

Serrano narrowed his eyes at him. "What do you hope to gain from this?"

"The same as the other times, I want to clear things up."

"You aren't at that point yet," Setsuko said, giving him a stern look. "You saw how my sister reacted at the sanctuary when you tried that earlier. Do you really expect me to think things will be differently now? Nothing has changed."

"Leave, Tetsuya," Serrano said, placing a hand on his cousin's shoulder. "If you truly care for Rosa as you state, then do not alert her more than she already is. You heard what Hyosetsu said back in the suite, right? How she tried to commit suicide on that day?"

Tetsu averted his eyes. "Y-yeah, but..."

"No buts. Lets allow these two some time to speak. Meanwhile, we need to figure something out about where we'll be staying. Hopefully Akane and Maki can help with that. In the meantime, go and do some sightseeing with the others."

Tetsuya gasped but then smiled. "Alright."

Serrano let go of his shoulder.

Before returning back to the stadium, Tetsuya turned around. He gave me a pencil thin smile.

Tetsu, I can't see you anymore. I only cause you pain...

"You sure do," a voice called out. I turned around, expecting to see Satoru, but there was no one on the fountain.

I touched my head. Why do I keep hearing that cynic's voice?

"Consider me your conscious, princess," Satoru's voice echoed.

My conscious? That's hilarious!

"What's funny is your behavior. On the day that sword peasant injured the shield peasant, you had a flashback to that night, didn't you?"

"How do you know that?" I asked, clenching my head.

"Know what?" my sister asked.

"Get away!" I yelled.

"Huh?" Setsuko asked.

Go on, tell her that you're hearing voice. She'll only think that you're becoming crazy, little princess.

Suddenly gray tails curled around my body. "You can't escape me, princess. Nor can you escape the truth of what you did."

A tail caressed my cheek, causing shivers to run down my body. His touch made me feel like throwing up.

"Let me go!" I screamed as tears streamed down my face.

"Rosa, what's wrong?" Setsuko asked, furrowing her brow.

"Sis, save me! It's Satoru!" I said, reaching my hand out to her.

She walked over and hugged me. "Where?" she asked, looking around.

Satoru chuckled. "She can't save you forever," Satoru said as his tails let go of me. "One day she and your knight will realize what you did. Then you'll be truly alone, princess."

"I didn't do it!" I screamed.

"Keep telling yourself that, you lustful princess."

"I'm not! I would never do that to Tetsu!" I yelled, shaking. Setsuko opened her mouth but for some reason I couldn't hear her voice.

Satoru chuckled as he stepped back. "Why should I believe that when you refused to believe the peasant? The worst thing is that you still acted like the victim at the sanctuary. You are the worst person ever, princess. Far more than you think I am. You are better off killing yourself, witch."

"I... I didn't..."

"Rosa!" Setsuko screamed, snapping me out of the trance I had been put in. "What's going on? Are you alright?"

"Setty... I... I don't deserve... to live," I said, holding her with shaky hands. "I should've died... I should die."

"Don't say... Hey, Rosa! Wake up... Rosa!" Setsuko yelled as my consciousness faded. "ROSA!
