Speaking My Mind- Do Bad Guys Really Need To Reform?
So, PepperRavenBat and I came across this message in a Deviantart GIF. - "Villains Don't Always Have To Reform", and I've decided to emphasise this message with my thoughts and opinions.
Well, first of all, I completely agree with this. If all bad guys turn over a new leaf, then what's the point of, well- 'Bad Guys'? And why did they exist at the first place if they will eventually all redeem at last? Well, the world needs balance- good and evil. Sure, evil isn't, well, nice, but it brings balance to this unfortunately cruel and harsh, yet interesting and challenging world we live in. It just HAS to exist. There's NO way of stopping it.
Secondly, this shows that some villains are headstrong, and stand firmly on their ground no matter what may sway them to think otherwise. This shows how strong villains can be, and this is why I admire villains a lot- and actually want to learn something from them- which happens to be this very meaningful trait. This trait is what makes villains cool and interesting. Kid you not- a lot of people actually shower their admiration towards the antagonists more than that of the protagonists, and they have the right to do so :)
Of course, redemption is crucial for some villains as well- in order to regain people's trust towards them, and to feel more loved, cared, and most importantly- accepted, as one of a kind, or as a unique individual. Honestly, I much prefer a redeemed villain- for he/she will finally be able to feel truly loved for once, and that they deserved it. If the crowd hasn't prepared to accept them, they would continue to learn from their mistakes, and strive to prove that they're worthy, and that they're sincere, hoping that people would eventually forget about their past and finally welcome them as their own. This is good as well, as we see a more determined side of a villain, and that they'll do whatever it takes to be accepted. In a non-redemption villain's case, his/her determined side would show more as they would do anything to get what they desired. Power hungry, cruel, vile, evil- that's what makes a villain so ironically lovable by many fans of said shows.
So, the conclusion is- it depends. It's the villain who has to make their choice and choose their path.
That's all I have to say, thank you XD
Oh my, is this becoming a lecture? XD
