Now You've Been Kissed

A/N This is Malec's first kiss.

After the time at the Pandemonium, when Alec ran into Magnus and when Izzy and Jace saw them together, Alec was always being cornered by either one of them, asking him whether he had spoken to Magnus again.

And truth be told, he had wanted to. But didn't know when or how that would happen again.

Conviniently, fate had it that Magnus would knock up at the Institute just two days later, and that Alec was tasked with answering the door.

"Magnus," Alec smiled when he saw who was at the door.

"Hello, Alexander," Magnus said, "How are we?"

"Um, great, you?"

"Better as you are the one who opened the door."

Alec blushed.

"Well, are you going to invite me in?" Magnus asked.

"Of - of course," Alec said, and held the door open for Magnus, "And is there a um particular reason you're here?"

"Yeah, I was called to fix some wards," Magnus answered as they walked towards the main wards area.

"A High Warlock to fix wards?" Alec seemed sceptical.

"Closest warlock at disposal," Magnus said a little too harshly.

"Magnus, you're more than just a tool to use when we want," Alec said without thinking, and Magnus was genuinely taken aback by how Alec seemed to mean the words. And his tone suggested that was his opinion on all of the Downworld. That they were more than tools.

"Huh," Magnus sighed, "You're quite different, aren't you?"

"Excuse me?"

"No Nephilim ever thinks that way," Magnus explained.

"I know, it's not great," Alec rubbed his neck, "But yes. You're not just a disposable tool. Neither are you or any of your people. Or any of the Downworld for that matter."

"Alexander," Magnus grinned, "You're surprising in the best best of ways."

Alec blushed more and then stuttered, "Ah um it's... it's - "

Alec was saved at the arrival of Isabelle.

"Fixed up the wards?" she asked, yet again with that knowing smile.

"Not yet," Magnus flashed her a smile, "Got slightly distraced talking."

"I can tell."

"Are you two siblings by the way?" Magnus questioned and they nodded.

"Your Lightwood genetics has changed down the line," Magnus commented, "I remember green-eyed monsters. Not blue eyes or black eyes."

"Weird," Izzy said, "I can't remember anyone in the family with green eyes."

"This was a while ago," Magnus justified.

"Anyway," Izzy said, "Mum sent me to ask how my payment you'd want for fixing the wards."

"I'll let this one pass," Magnus said after a moment of debate, his eyes lingering on Alec, "I've recieved better things than money in this visit."

"I completely understand," Izzy smirked and sauntered off, leaving Alec with that feeling: afraid of the hope. Hope that there was something in the gaze Magnus gave him.

"This wards business will take a while," Magnus said after both Magnus and Alec stood staring at the other, hoping, and afraid of the hope, "And I can escort myself out. Thank you for your company, Alexander. It's been lovely."

"I'll stay, it's okay, I've got nothing else to be doing," Alec found himself saying, and was grateful to whatever force made him say those words out loud.

And Alec did stay, watching Magnus work his magic, totally taken aback by the blue whisps glistening. Magnus was simply enthralling. When Magnus finally finished, he had a slight gleam of sweat, and Alec felt nerves catch on fire, a completely new and overwhelming sensation.

"Well, I'm done here," Magnus said and put on his jacket, "Walk me out?"

Alec smiled shyly and nodded, and walked with Magnus up to the front door. Magnus stepped out, but didn't want to part yet, but he knew it'd be strange if Magnus was just there, unable to take his eyes of the beautiful Shadowhunter.

Alec cleared his throat. "Are you sure you don't want any money? You've done so much."

"Your company has been quite the payment, Alexander. I've got a fortune anyway. Thank you."

"Of course, Magnus."

And Magnus found it endearing that Alec said 'Magnus' and not 'warlock'.

And with that Magnus departed.

"He so likes you," Izzy was squealing as Alec, Jace and her sat at the rooftop, discussing their day.

"He's Magnus Bane, why would he like me?" Alec asked, rolling his eyes.

"He didn't want payment, Alec," Izzy said, "Because he thought you being there was enough."

"Well."

"I saw the way he looked at you in the club," Jace put in, "He's interested."

"For Raziel's sake," Alec groaned, "I'm going to bed."

Alec then departed, blushing and ignoring Jace and Izzy's howls of laughter and teasing.

And for some reason, he wanted to see Magnus again, wanted to hear his voice, and he wanted so much, that it was so new and hard to understand. He turned to his siblings.

"I think I'm going to to Magnus'," he said, and shocked himself.

"We'll cover," Jace said immediately, and Alec, telling himself he was crazy, checked the address of the High Warlock in the Institute books and raced to Brooklyn, before nerves got the better of him.

***

"WHO DARES DISTURB THE HIGH WARLOCK?" Magnus' voice boomed down and Alec found himself smiling at the mere voice.

"It's me," he said, "I mean Alec. Alec Lightwood."

The door opened, and Alec bounded up the stairs, finding Magnus standing at the doorway. And then he was too uncertain to carry on with what he'd come up for. What had he come up for?

"Hello," Magnus greeted, "Just going to stare... Or?"

"Right," Alec shook out of his nerves, "Um."

"Do you want to come in?" Magnus asked, and Alec warily nodded, stepping inside. Magnus gestured to the sofas and Alec sat down, Magnus sitting opposite him.

"Coffee? Tea? Wine?" Magnus asked.

"W - water," Alec choked out, his throat unbelievably dry.

"Are you quite alright, Alexander?" Magnus asked as he brought a glass of water over.

"Yes."

"What can I help you with?"

"Thank you."

"For...?"

"Fixing the wards."

Magnus arched an eyebrow, "You came all the way here to say thanks?"

"Um, maybe not?"

"Do you need a minute?" Magnus asked as Alec put his face in his hands.

Alec shook his head. He feared he'd use that minute to run rather than do anything else. Alec felt Magnus sink down next to him, and the closeness of him made his nerves catch fire.

"Hey, look at me," Magnus said gently, "What's up?"

Alec looked up, amber eyes peering into his own, "I - just... I don't... I feel... This is so new, and I don't even know that 'this' is."

"It's okay. You'll figure it out. Do many people know?" Magnus asked.

Alec jerked. "Know what?"

"That you're into guys?"

"No. I - Izzy knows. Jace figured it out. Neither of them care. As in they don't judge or see me as any less."

"That's good, Alexander," Magnus smiled.

"I just," Alec took a deep breath, "Wondered whether you'd want to go out with me. Jace and Izzy think you like me, so I thought we could try and- "

"Do you like me?" Magnus interrupted, "It doesn't matter what Jace and Izzy think. For the record, they're right, but that doesn't mean you should do this to get something out of your system, or because they think something. Do you like me? Do I interest you?"

Alec thought about the new feelings of butterflies, the heat of his face anytime Magnus spoke, and he nodded. "I like you."

"Well," Magnus smiled reassuringly, "Then that's a date. Friday night?"

"Really?" Alec asked, astounded. Magnus nodded, grinning. "

Sounds great," Alec smiled when he felt something furry against his feet. He looked down to find a cat, and immediately bent to pet it.

"He's adorable," Alec commented, "I think he likes me."

"That's always good," Magnus grinned, "I never date anyone my cat doesn't like."

And Alec found himself letting out a laugh. He faced Magnus again. "I've never done any of this before," he admitted, "The dating, the kissing, the relationship, any of it. I just thought... You should know that. I understand if you don't want to see me on Friday, or anything."

"You stupid, Shadowhunter," Magnus scolded, but with a smile, already guessing Alec was inexperienced by the blushes and stutters, "Do you really think I care? I don't. Like Izzy and Jace said, and like I said, I like you. Your lack of experience isn't going to change anything."

"Right," Alec sighed, relieved. "I should go now."

"Of course."

Magnus walked him to the door, and then stood facing Alec, looking deep in thought. Alec was worried. "Never kissed anyone before? No one at all?"

Alec blushed, for some reason thinking this made him un-datable. "No, not really."

"Come here," Magnus whispered and placed a finger under Alec's chin to tilt his face up, and Magnus brought Alec closer to him, and kissed him.

It was a soft kiss, gentle, and shallow, giving Alec the time he needed to get used to the feeling. And by the Angel, was the feeling good. Alec never thought it would feel this good, with fireworks going off in his brain at the idea that he was kissing someone he liked, someone like Magnus Bane.

Alec had to lean up to kiss Magnus, and he loved that, loved the feeling of being a tiny bit shorter, as he was always the taller one. He loved how gently Magnus was, one of his hand cupping Alec's cheek and the other resting painfully softly on his waist.

Alec moved forward into the kiss, unsure what to do with his hands. He followed his instincts and looped them around the warlock's neck, and kissed him back, unsure, but wanting this, yearning for this.

The kiss was fire, but not ferocious, it was like a candle, glowing happily, as Magnus wound his hands into Alec's hair, not tugging, but just resting it there, allowing Alec to do the kissing now, enjoying the little gasp the Shadowhunter gave as Magnus sunk into the kiss. Magnus couldn't resist and used Alec's belt-loops to pull him closer, Alec making a lovely sound as their bodies collided.

The soft bite on Magnus' lower lip awakened feelings long buried, and Magnus' head was wild, and it took heroic self-control for him to not rip open Alec's shirt. Magnus, instead, kept his hands where they were, and started kissing Alec back, enjoying the few more gasps the Shadowhunter gave, and tried his best to not rush the kiss, remembering this was a magical moment for Alec. That it was his first kiss. Magnus was his first kiss, and the thought made Magnus realise it was a magical moment for him to, something so special in being this shy Shadowhunter's first kiss.

They kissed for what felt like a blissful eternity, Magnus doing his best to keep a slow, gentle pace. It took more effort than Magnus would admit. He pulled away when Alec looked like he was about to sink to the floor, pulling them both down. That wouldn't be unwelcome, but Magnus knew if that happened, Alec would regret everything when he got out of the daze the intense kissing had put him under.

Alec was panting slightly, but smiling gorgeously, and Magnus returned the smile, "Now you've been kissed."

"Bye, Magnus," he Alec, eyes gleaming "See you Friday?"

"Sure you will," Magnus grinned, "Take care, Alexander."

And with that, Alec departed, his whole body singing a beautiful melody.
