Chapter 77: Ghost

Updating early because I might be too busy tomorrow. Hoho enjoy!

Warning: Contains some heated scenes but not too graphic.

It was the night of the new moon again. In the blink of an eye, three weeks had passed. The last vestiges of the prickling heat of summer came haunting Feng Yanyan and he couldn't sleep.

The lack of moonlight and the knowledge of the possible ghost in this damned Mo mansion also didn't help him.

A strong wind suddenly pushed the windows open. Feng Yanyan who was tucked in his bed had the veils drawn and was hiding under thin covers. He didn't care if it was hot.

This wind would be welcomed by anyone else other than Beauty Feng at the moment. He didn't even dare to get up and close the windows again nor call someone to do it. What if he saw the ghost?

Usually during these moments, he always pictured his strict grandfather in his mind. Just the thought of the staunch old man let him borrow enough courage. But tonight, it seemed like it was useless.

As the windows were open, it was easy for the elements to enter.

And what more if it was a full grown and lithe woman?

Long Xu Le entered with ease. Her footsteps were light and quick as she examined every nook and cranny of the small room. She even avoided some floorboards that would normally creak.

It was clear that the set of movements were practiced. As though these had been done countless times before.

She wasn't only an effective King but also a perfect burglar. The last thing she opened was the incense burner by the corner. Putting the lid near her nose, she didn't smell anything suspicious.

Her Highness' inspection routine was done in no more than five breaths. The conclusion was there was nothing harmful in the room.

Leaving a last glance on the canopied bed, she was about to leave. However, she noticed something peculiar.

The King's vision had long grown accustomed to the dark. And right now, the figure on the bed could be seen trembling.

Long Xu Le frowned. There was no report that he was sick.

She stepped closer and drew the muslin curtains on the bed. As the sheer fabric parted, her hand stilled.

His breaths were chaotic. She should have noticed he was awake.

Wan Li Wang paused to think and her eyes flashed. Did he think he was under attack? She frowned, helpless. Hiding like this wouldn't do anything if she was a real assassin.

The King grasped the covers and peeled it away from him only to reveal a wide-eyed and sweating man underneath.

Feng Yanyan's scream was trapped in his throat when he recognized the familiar scent.

"What are you doing?" Her Highness whispered and hoisted him up. He needed air to cool his body down. However, she put him on her lap. It was quite counterintuitive.

"W-wangye..." It was a painful sob.

Long Xu Le subconsciously softened upon hearing his call. She sighed.

"I thought there was a ghost." His body wasn't trembling anymore but his voice was hoarse.

The King was so close to him that he could feel her chest's vibration when she chuckled. "Fool."

Who knew where she got a big fan and started gently fanning for both of them.

"There are no wandering ghouls in this world. Only the past sins haunt people." She muttered near his ears.

His legs were still hanging by the side. A grown man sitting on her lap sideways. It was an embarrassing position for some.

But Feng Yanyan was Feng Yanyan. He even leaned his body to her and listened to her breathing.

"Wangye..."

"Hmm?"

"They didn't let me go to you." There was a hint of complaining.

"So I heard." She understood. "The Prince needed to leave the palace before the marriage."

What kind of Junwang still lived with a Qinwang after marriage? Feng Yanyan gave her Highness the perfect excuse to kick her brother out of the wangfu. Sangyu must have also realized that when he calmed down.

Beauty Feng didn't reply. How much of what she said was true, how much was to save the Prince's face, only Wangye knew.

"Did you eat dinner?" A sudden question.

Long Xu Le looked away even though Feng Yanyan couldn't see her. She only hummed.

He knew she was lying. It didn't make him angry. "Wangye... if you don't take care of yourself, who will take care of Suliang?"

Beauty Feng felt the arms around his waist tighten. He was still nestled in her arms. She sighed and he smiled. Her Highness would probably eat later at home.

A calm silence blanketed the two who were in each other's embrace under this moonless night. But was it really calm?

"Feng Yanyan." The King mumbled his name.

He rose to face her, inevitably straddling her lap. "Wangye."

Beauty Feng was much taller than her Highness but she was the one holding his waist to steady him. She let him lower his head and claim her lips. His arms hooked around her neck.

They couldn't make noise but he still whimpered when she answered his thirst like two intertwining rivers.

Soon Long Xu Le felt something firm from him as he squirmed and breathed 'Wangye' over and over again.

The King felt her head might explode at the moment. Time seemed to slow down but they needed to stop.

She let go of his lips but she couldn't see how wild her eyes were. "Feng. Yanyan."

The man was gasping for breath but his posture was rigid. He locked her Highness inside his embrace to calm himself, groaning.

He had no idea what this was doing to the woman in his arms. Long Xu Le tapped his arm to release her.

She soon stood up but the almighty King's legs felt like the jelly dessert that Feng Yanyan liked to eat. Feng Yanyan supported her waist and grinned at her. "Hehe."

Her Highness frowned. She didn't like that roguish face.

"It's a physiological reaction." He kept insisting he had no fault.

Long Xu Le's gaze darkened but he didn't notice. The room was ill-lit after all. She patted his cheek and leaned into him.

"Then this reaction. Did my brother receive it too?" She asked through gritted teeth.

Feng Yanyan instinctively felt his life was in danger. He held the hand touching his face. "Xu-Xuyi... is the only one who got this close to me."

The King felt like her hand was scalded so she quickly pulled away but her palm felt empty. She narrowed her eyes at him.

"Ben dian heard you're teaching Junwangfei?"

Ah, her Highness was really moody. Beauty Feng complained inside but his tone was fawning. "Wangye doesn't want me to?"

Long Xu Le also realized how petty she sounded and clicked her tongue.

"Three weeks more." With that, she stole a slow kiss and left without looking back.

Feng Yanyan sat there dazed. He didn't even know how she left.

What did she mean by three weeks more?

He thought Wangye was a hoodlum. Going here to kiss and tease him then leaving with cryptic words.

He might or might not have forgotten that he was the one who initiated the kiss.

Early next morning, Mo Zhilan hounded his front door as expected. She wasn't noisy, just sat there waiting. He admitted that Miss Mo was tolerable.

She wasn't a rowdy dog but looked like a cute puppy that needed attention. Feng Yanyan couldn't bear to leave the puppy alone.

"Master Feng, Wangye agreed for us to go out." Mo Zhilan greeted with a smile.

At the mention of the King, Feng Yanyan subtly looked away. "Really? Let us go then. Feng can't bear to keep Junwangfei waiting."

As the future princess consort, Miss Mo couldn't go out a lot. In the past few weeks, she had to go alone when going to the gatherings of Suliang nobility. But Feng Yanyan tutted at her when she mentioned attending more.

In his words, she was the future princess consort, why was she going around looking like she was asking for attention? Their attention should be on her, not her asking for it. She needed to hook them in a way that they couldn't look away.

So she should play hard to get with these madams and misses.

Mo Zhilan was distressed when she learned of this. So that was why no matter how the higher tier nobles flattered her, she felt there was something wrong.

She should have approached Gentleman Feng sooner.

If Junwang learned that his future princess was taking notes from the person he considered as venomous, would he spit blood? Feng Yanyan wondered.

Nevertheless, he acquiesced to Miss Mo's wishes. Today, they would go shopping.

But Feng Yanyan thought that shopping was not her priority. She was just probably going to destress. And he happened to be a good victim to drag along.

And so he was dragged along all over the First and Second Districts of Suliang. The First was where the residence of the higher nobilities were and it was the closest to the King's wangfu. This was where the official departments were housed too. There were elegant shops but the atmosphere was strict and quiet.

The second district was far more lively and Mo Zhilan seemed to be more comfortable looking around the place. This was the first time Feng Yanyan got to really look around the usual situation in Suliang.

His heart trembled because the people were disciplined and even the nobles didn't act presumptuous. They adhered to protocol.

If one didn't know this place, they might call it the foot of the Holy One.

>Foot of the Holy one - used to describe the capital where the Emperor lives<

It was rather bizarre that such a place existed so near to the border where there were conflicts all year round.

Feng Yanyan's eyes feasted from all kinds of novel things one couldn't find at the capital. Suliang was the seat of the meeting of the cultures.

Products from the neighboring countries, whether subordinated or not, could be found in the second district.

There were lifelike dragonfly accessories, unique bags that couldn't be found in Tanglin, dresses that looked really different from Long Dynasty's way of clothing.

So this was the flavor of Suliang. Once again, Feng Yanyan felt amazed that Wangye was able to keep the cacophony of cultures in this place. He found himself giddy and proud for some reason.
