Part Five

Meika walked into the room she shared with Eimi. After the whole incident, Dr. Yamamoto had been safely arrested, and military security as well as MWs were placed around the school to fend of the threatened invasion, fix the infirmary, and take care of any injured students. While Eimi had been dispatched to her room to rest, Meika and Isamu continued to investigate more on the clues Dr. Yamamoto had left behind. As much as she wanted to question the nurse, there was no way that Dr. Yamamoto would have said anything, even if she was conscious in the first place. They were successfully able to reunite the kidnapped Chika with Minori, and there were only a few more questions from the police to answer before Meika was able to return to her room.

Now, she entered the dark room to find the girl sitting on the edge of the bed, the upper half of her body masked in shadows and her hair spilling all over her face. Her lips were pressed downwards firmly in a frown, and her hands clenched her skirt so hard that her knuckles turned white.

"Hey," Meika shut the door behind her and sat next to her roommate. "You okay?"

"Kuh..." Eimi made a noise of frustration, something Meika had never seen her do before. "Meika-chan...I..."

"Oi, that crying back then wasn't serious, was it?" Meika complained with a sigh.

It was. Eimi looked up at her friend with tearstained cheeks, looking like she was about to burst into tears all over again. "I...I couldn't kill her..."

"Oh, right," Meika sighed, gently putting her hand around Eimi's shaking shoulder to comfort her friend. She'd almost forgotten again about Eimi's half-lying situation. "It's okay. If you ever feel like it, we can just break into the city jail."

And just like that--

"Hey, you're right!" Eimi brightened. "Why didn't I think of that?"

Meika made a face. "You have such wild mood swings."

"I know, right?" Eimi beamed. "But--hyaaa!"

She toppled on the soft bed in surprise with a cute "Oomph" when the building suddenly shook. She peeled herself from the comfy satin blankets as the school continued to shake, confused. "Arere? What's going on here? I'm so confused, Meika-chan..."

"Looks like she wasn't kidding about the legion," Meika remarked, standing up with one hand on a nearby desk, which she had grabbed for support. "Shall we go?"

Eimi smiled sweetly. "And kill them?"

"Rejected."

"Aww, Meika-chan, you're a meanie."

"Oi oi, what part of keep a low profile do you not understand?"

"Uu...me don't like you..."

"Anyway, let's just destroy them as best as we can without Form Changing and without killing," Meika suggested, holding out her hand to Eimi.

Eimi nodded, accepting her hand and standing. "Okay~~ Let's stop by the training room first. I really like this katana--is there another like it?"

Her face shined brilliantly as she beamed, and Meika heaved another sigh.

"There's too many!"

"Doesn't matter, push them back!"

"Yeah, we have to protect the students!"

The military security teamed was severely pushed back as the legion of nearly a hundred--but probably not quite a hundred--men and/or women covered in black cloaks Cast spell after spell of all categories, creating all sorts of explosions all over the campus. Both sides fought fiercely to force the other back, one defending and the other attacking, but one side was obviously losing. Students watched in nervous tension and fear from their room windows as the attacking forces were able to get closer and closer, magic circles spreading all over the attack ground--

"Oi oi, are you seriously from the military?"

"You can't even push back these midgets...how weak."

"What?!" Everyone, inside and outside the school, gasped and looked around in bewilderment.

"Up here!"

Upon hearing Eimi's cheerful chirp, they all looked up to see the two girls hovering on the air with the help of Meika's Flight Cast. Eimi currently held two silver katanas in her hands and grinned brightly, while Meika twirled a gun in her hand with a pistol clipped on her belt and an extra dagger just in case. She didn't use the single scythe down in the training room because that would be way too obvious, and guns seemed to associate with her Flight Casts so they were the top choice.

"Wait--Eimi and Meika?" Kyoko gasped, pulling open her window.

"What are they thinking?" Isamu insisted, doing the same.

"Shoot them down," A man near the back of the legion commanded carelessly. "They're just a bunch of foolish kids."

"How mean!" Eimi pouted. "Well, whatever." When she saw the mage-warriors holding bows and arrows, guns, and other long-range weapons raise their weapons to fire at them, she laughed and shot downwards. "Not gonna work!"

"I'll back you up, Eimi!" Meika called from the air, loading a gun and aiming.

"I got it!" Eimi crossed the two katanas in front of her. "Flame Cast: Extreme Explosion!"

One after another, explosions popped along the back line of long-range fighting mage-warriors.

"Ah."

Meika lowered the gun in her hand when she thought of a better idea. She raised her hand and Cast a spell instead.

"Flight Cast: Blinding Whirlwind."

This spell was a different one from the one that she had Cast earlier. The previous one, Shredding Whirlwind, created winds so strong and sharp that they were capable of tearing even the strongest metal. Blinding Whirlwind, on the other hand, picked up dust, dirt, sand, or other small particles on the ground to conceal others' vision, kind of like a smoke bomb. In this case, it used the smoke from Eimi's explosions and covered the entire legion in a giant smoke screen, preventing anyone from seeing anything. But Eimi had trained with this kind of stuff beforehand and landed in the middle of the army, frowning in confusion as the legion was thrown into chaos from being unable to see.

"I wonder what Meika-chan's up to..." Eimi wondered aloud.

"Huh?"

"What's the matter, Isamu?"

Masao looked up when Isamu frowned suddenly and looked up to where Meika was perched in the air. The two were in the south side of the building, peering out of the small window at the mass chaos happening outside the school.

"Meika...it looks like she's whispering something," Isamu noted. On closer look, Masao indeed realized that the girl's mouth seemed to be moving. "I wish I knew what she was saying..."

Down below, Eimi suddenly saw the shadows of the legionnaires move and twist on the ground. She immediately realized that Meika was Casting a Shadow Cast: Shadow Bend. At first, she couldn't understand the meaning behind it, though, and could only watch the blackness twist and turn into a suddenly familiar shape.

And then the message came to her clearly.

USE RAGING HELLFIRE

A/N: Wow. I'm sorry I unpublished the chapters and then didn't update for a while...I kind of got bored of Wattpad and took a break for a while. But I'm back and I'll keep writing on this (well, really, it's just a copying and pasting job, but still :) ). I hope there's still people willing to read it! Sorry for the delay!
