Part Five

Part Five

Sitting down at a table with Meika, Kyoko, Akina, Isamu, Masao, and a small salad, Eimi happily started chatting away. As she talked, Meika noticed her long hair cover the pocket that held the pinprick they were to use for the plan, and smiled as she gently lifted her chopsticks, coated with rice, into her mouth.

That's Eimi for you. If I wasn't the one who had given it to her, then I would have never noticed it.

"Hey hey, what do you think of class so far?" Eimi asked excitedly around a mouthful of lettuce from her salad. "Sensei is so super strict, isn't he?"

"That's only because you weren't paying attention, baka," Masao snorted.

Eimi just laughed. "True enough!"

"But anyway, weren't you hungry?" Kyoko sighed. "You're not eating much--and neither are you, Meika..."

Eimi glanced down at her salad. All she had was a small plateful of lettuce and a couple of other salad toppings, and no sauce at all. Meika, similarly, only had a small bowl of rice and a bowl of miso soup.

Eimi shrugged. "Well, neither of us are used to eating much, so you know."

"Really?" Akina tipped her head curiously. "What do you usually have for dinner?"

Eimi thought. "Uhh...nothing really, I guess?"

"Mostly just whatever we can find," Meika filled in, using her chopsticks to pick up some rice grains.

"Do you mean that your parents don't feed you much?" Isamu frowned. "That's not right..."

"Oh, no," Eimi sighed, setting down her fork. "I'm an orphan and Meika was disowned. It's kind of complicated. I don't really want to explain."

Kyoko gasped. "I had no idea..."

Eimi shrugged and lowered her head. It may have looked like she was remembering the past and getting depressed, but instead she sneakily pulled the silver pinprick from her pocket and gripped it in a light fist, very careful not to poke herself. She smiled to herself--nobody else but Meika could see. The tiny pin was barely noticeable, even in her hand--it wouldn't be hard to catapult it across the room.

Akina gasped suddenly, dropping her chopsticks and placing her hands to her head. "Ahh...ahhhh!"

"A-Akina?!" Kyoko exclaimed, shooting to her feet.

Isamu hurried to help as well. "Kaida-san? Is something the matter?"

The majority of the cafeteria turned to look at her, but Akina ignored them and doubled over, clenching her hand to her chest. "No...no!!! I...I don't want to...I don't want to see..." Pearly tears slipped down her face. "Ahhh...Kisaragi-sensei...look out..."

"Must be an uncontrollable Future Cast," Isamu mused. "I've heard that sometimes Future Mikos of the Kaida line have uncontrollable glimpses of the future."

"Move aside, move aside!" Student Council President Minori pushed through. "Let me see her!"

The crowd parted to let her through immediately. With all eyes on Akina, Meika was able to channel a tiny burst of magic through her hand. Her lips barely moved and hardly any sound came out when she whispered, "Shadow Cast: Blockage Technique."

The magic was channeled expertly through the table, not leaving behind a single clue, and pushed against the trembling Future Miko. Akina stiffened with a sharp jerk in surprise at the sudden intrusion of a Dark Cast, grabbing Kyoko's arm for support. "Ahh..." Then she returned to normal, breathing heavily.

"Are you okay, Akina?" Kyoko asked worriedly.

"U-Un," Akina nodded, struggling to breathe. "I'm fine now. Sorry."

Meika nodded at Eimi subtly. Nobody else noticed it, naturally, and Eimi returned it with a devilish smirk. Then she lowered her head again, the shadows hiding her face and her hands, and then--

From the teacher's table.

"Argh...ugh...ahhh!"

A twisted scream of agony sounded out.

A pretty middle-aged teacher, Kisaragi Otome, the 'Silver Goddess,' collapsed on the ground, writhing in pain.

"K-Kisaragi-sensei?!" All the teachers rushed over and so did Minori with the rest of the Student Council.

"What's the matter?"

"Hey, what happened?"

"It's no good, she's out cold..."

"I sense internal bleeding! It's poison! Someone call a doctor!"

"Roger that, Sakiko-sensei!"

As Minori rushed across the cafeteria in a hurry, Meika smiled at Eimi. Too busy with all the chaos, nobody else noticed.

"With this, we've completed the test, right?" She asked quietly.

"Actually..."

Meika frowned and glanced down at her friend. Eimi looked up with a sheepish smile, her long hair flowing out on the chair, and held up the poison pinprick.

"I haven't done anything yet."

A/N: Finally, another chapter done! If you haven't noticed yet, I'm going to post them in parts but I'll update all the parts at once so it's still like I'm releasing chapters at a time anyway. ^.^ What did you think of my little cliffhanger? Don't worry, the next chapter's done, I just have to draw a picture. And decide where to put it. Among other stuff. Hopefully you won't be waiting that long (if you're waiting at all)!

Happy reading!
