Chapter 7 - Stuck

Since the remembrance service, I've kind of isolated and distanced myself from others. Re-living all those memories and thinking about my parents really got to me. Seeing all the service men and women really hit me, harder than I thought it would. Both Danny and Uncle Steve have been checking up on me non-stop and trying to get me to talk, but I've just ignored them. I've stayed in my room a lot and only gone out to either eat or when Uncle Steve forced me to go to HQ with him. It's been 2 weeks. It's not that I want to isolate myself, or enjoy it for that matter, but I find it helps because it's too hard to talk to people. I've been sitting looking at old pictures and items from when I was younger with my parents in, for hours every day. For the past few days, I haven't done that, so I'm guessing I'm finally getting past this down stage.

It's 7 am. I haven't been working out with Uncle Steve, or at all, for the past 2 weeks. I decided that today was the day. The day I had to let things return to normal. I drag myself out of bed and change into my sports gear.

I put my hair into a messy bun before heading into the kitchen. I look around for Uncle Steve, but can't find him. That's when I see the back-door open, so I know he's outside. I head into the garden and walk down to the water's edge. I look out and see Uncle Steve doing his morning swim. He looks up and notices me standing here, so he starts to head in. He smiles at me as he exits the water and I smile back. I've hardly spoken to him or had any contact with him for the last 2 weeks. We don't say anything, he just opens his arms and I crash into his chest. I feels good to back in his arms. We pull apart and he looks at me.
"Hey kiddo. You Okay?" He asks, drying himself off with a towel. I nod, smiling.
"You know...it's good to see you out and about, and see you smile again" He says, rubbing my arm. I smile. We stretch and he joins me for a run. We don't talk, instead we just listen to the sound of the waves around us. After 20 minutes, we stop and cool down. We head inside and wash up. Uncle Steve cooks breakfast whilst I have a shower and get dressed.

I put on my light grey skinny jeans and my coloured faded top. I put my laptop and art book in my bag, before putting on my high-top trainers.
I grab my phone and headphones before walking out of my room. I sit down with Uncle Steve and eat breakfast. He makes me laugh by telling silly jokes. After 20 minutes, we're sat in his truck, driving a crime scene. I stay in the car, whilst Uncle Steve goes to speak with the others. 10 minutes later he returns, and we're headed off to the palace. When we arrive, I walk in and put my things in Uncle Steve's office. I walk out to speak with the others.
"It's good to see you" Chin says, giving me a hug and a smile.
"Glad to have you back. I'm here if you ever need someone to talk to about girl stuff or just anything in general" Kono says, after pulling me aside. I thank her and we share a quick hug before re-joining to others. I hug Lou before I hug Danny. He kisses my forehead.
"I'm happy to see you" He says, putting his arm over my shoulders. I turn to look at everyone.
"Thanks guys! Really, you've all been amazing." I say, wiping away a stray tear. Danny rubs my arm before we all focus back onto the case.

A 40-year-old man was found shot, early this morning. The team is now working on any lead they have found so far. So far, nothing has been helpful. It's around 2pm. I left the team to work on the case a little while ago to go do some drawing. I look at my phone and notice it's dying. I look through my bag for my charger, only to find I left it at home. Great! I think to myself. I go out to the others and talk to Uncle Steve.
"Is there any chance we can pop home? My phones about to die and I forgot my charger" I say, pouting. He shakes his head and lets out a chuckle.
"Sorry Kiddo, I'm about to go interrogate someone. Maybe ask Danny, see if he can take you" He says, nodding his head towards Danny's office. I smile as he walks off and I head towards Danny's office. I knock on the door. He lifts his head and signals for me to enter.

"Hey T, what's up?" He asks, walking around his desk and leaning against it.
"Well...My phone's about to die and I left my charger at home. I asked Uncle Steve if he could take me home to get it but he's busy..." I say, looking at him with puppy dog eyes. He smiles and laughs. He nods his head and grabs his keys.
"Come on then." He says, grabbing my shoulders and directing me over to the elevators. A few seconds later the doors open and we step inside. I press the ground floor button and the door closes. The lift starts to move. After a few seconds, the lights flicker and the lift jolts to a stop.
"YOU'VE GOT TO BE KDDING ME!!" I practically shout, pressing the button's multiply times. I look at Danny, both of us trying our best to stay calm. Danny uses his mobile to call for help. He calls Uncle Steve and explains what has happened. Uncle Steve calls for help. At this point, my breathing has increased and my palms are sweaty.
"Ehh, this is not good." I say, starting to freak out.
No, no. This is very bad." Danny says, loosening his tie. Both of us starting to freak out. Both me and Danny have bad claustrophobia. So being stuck in an elevator is very bad. But being stuck in an elevator without someone who can calm you down, is even worse. Uncle Steve calls back and Danny puts the phone on speaker.
"Okay. Fire are on their way and they'll get you out he says" I shake my head, about to lose it.
"No, no I have to get out of here now!" I shout, banging on the door. I think it's then, Uncle Steve remembers about mine and Danny's claustrophobia. Danny is sat on the floor, sweating and breathing really quickly.
"Hey, hey! Guys! Listen to me. It won't be long and then you'll be out of there okay? Until then you're safe." He says, trying to calm us down. I stop banging and sit down next to Danny.
"I want you to breathe with me okay? In to the count of 4 then out to the count of 4." Uncle Steve says, breathing with us. After a few minutes, we've calmed down. Not completely, but that won't happen until I get out of this metal box.

We sit, talking to Uncle Steve over the phone. It's getting really hot in here. I want out. I hear banging then the light turns back on. I sigh with relief and smile to Danny.
"Okay, they're nearly done. It shouldn't be long now!" Uncle Steve says. A few minutes later, the elevator moves and then the doors open. We both hurry to stand up and exit the elevator. Uncle Steve wraps his arms around me as I take some deep breathes.
"Thank You" Me and Danny say to the fire crew. The nod and pack away their gear before leaving. We head downstairs, using the stairs of course and head over to Kamekona's for some food.

Today has been eventful, to say the least, and I don't think I want to use the elevators for a few days. When it starts to get late, me and Uncle Steve say goodbye to everyone before heading home. The car ride home was filled with music, laughter and dodgy singing, from both me and Uncle Steve. Once home I sit and watch 'Mission Impossible' with Uncle Steve, before heading to bed. I plug my phone into charge before laying down. I fall asleep shortly after, listening to the sound of the crashing waves outside.
