Chapter 14- Take the Shot

Don't hesitate. It's simple and it's one of the first things we learnt in training. You hesitate, you put yourself and your colleagues in danger. Hesitation cost lives. Whether it's yours or someone else's, at the end of the day, a live has be lost.
"Don't do it! Drop the gun now!" I shout, my gun raised towards the man in front of me.
"What do you know?! You're just a kid!" He screams, waving the gun around.
"No! I'm a junior agent and I'm apart of Five-0! I have the badges to prove it! Now...drop...your...gun! Don't make me ask again!" I shout sternly, trying to take control of the situation.
BANG!

10 hours earlier:
"Tia! Get up!" Uncle Steve shouts, as he bangs on my door, again. I pull myself from the comfort of my bed and go to the door. I open the door, I angrily stare at Uncle Steve.
"I'm up!" I grunt. He laughs when he sees me.
"Good. Its 7:30. No time for a workout this morning. Get ready we have a case. Leaving in 10!" He says, walking down the stairs. I shut my door and lean against it, taking a deep breath. It's gunna be a long day. I grab some clothes and go to the bathroom to get ready. I take a quick wash and get ready before grabbing my bag with my things in.

I walk downstairs and into the kitchen.
"Here. Take this, it will wake you up." Uncle Steve says handing me a to go cup of coffee.
"Thanks" I say, taking a sip.
"Are you okay?" He asks me.
"Yeah" I say, yawning.
"I just had a really bad night's sleep for some reason." I say, eating the toast he placed down in front of me.
We leave not long after. In the truck, I put on my sunglasses and roll down the window, letting the fresh air wake me up properly. Yesterday was my first day working for Five-0. It was amazing! I mean, I know there will be good days and bad days, but I'm just glad it all started off well.

We pull up at the scene shortly after leaving. We get out and walk over to Danny who is leaning against his car.
"What do we have?" I say, looking over to the tarp on the ground.
"Kichi Peck. 24-year-old male. GSW to the head." Danny says, pulling the tarp away from the body.
"Yikes." I say, shocked considering it's my first body.
"Okay, let's get back to palace and see what the others have." Uncle Steve says, making his way back to his truck. When we arrive back at the palace. The others have pulled the surrounding CCTV footage and eye witness statement pulled up on the big screen. They found a connection between the two. We walk over to the others and ask what they have found out.
"This looks like a simple case of mistaken identity." Kono says before continuing.
"The vic. Kitchi Peck, wasn't the intended target, just a look alike. We ran the perp's facial through facial recognition and came up with this guy." Kono says, bringing up a file and photo of the perp.
"Noel Evans. Wanted for the murder of Jamie Evans, his brother. Also had reports filed against him for abusive behaviour towards his sister and girlfriend." Kono says, pulling up his address.
"Looks like his actual target was this guy, Samuel Takinila" Chin says, pulling up another guys details on the other screen. This guy does like a lot like our vic.
"Okay, Kono, Chin and Lou, I want you to go to Sam's house, find him ASAP. Me, Danny and Tia will go to the perp's house." Uncle Steve says, heading toward the gun locker. We all vest up and head to the cars. We take Uncle Steve's truck for a change, giving me plenty of room for once. We head towards the perp's address.

When we arrive, we kick the door in and search the house. I spot who we're looking for, Noel Evans, run through the kitchen and out the back door.
"He's running!" I shout over the radio as I chase the guy out the back. We jump a few fences before we end up at a dead end. My heart is racing and bounding in my ears. My radio crackles, and Danny's voice sounds, asking me where I am. Before I can reply the gun turns around, unlocking the safety on his gun. My hand rests on the butt of my gun.
The guy is nervous. My radio keeps sounding. I go to reply, when the guy takes a step towards me, shouting at me and waving the gun towards my face.
"DON'T!" He screams, shaking. He looks scared and nervous. He keeps looking around, trying to find a way out of the situation. I take this as my opportunity and redraw my gun, having put it back in its holster to run.
BANG!

It all happened so fast. I look down, hand clenched around my gun. Noel is laying on the floor, blood oozing from his chest. He's dead. I hear two plodding sounds, then Uncle Steve and Danny appear. I continue to stand and stare at the guy on the ground. This is my first time shooting someone on the job. It brings back the memories of that day flash back. I watch as Uncle Steve kneels down and checks for a pulse. He shakes his head as he makes his way towards me. He puts his hands over my hand and gun. He removes my gun and hands it to Danny before pulling me into his string embrace. I take a shaky breath before wrapping my arms around him. After a few minutes, he pulls away and places his hands on my shoulders.
"Are you okay?" He asks, seeing how shaken I am.
"Yeah, well no. But I will be." I say, unsure of how I actually feel. He nods, understanding how I feel. We wait for CRU to arrive before making our way back to the palace. Danny takes my statement. I found out from IA that they won't have to be investigated. Apparently, someone watched the whole thing and came back-up what I said. After a few hours of paperwork and wrapping up the case we head home. The actual target, Samuel Takinila, was found safe at home with his mum.

We pick up some takeout on the way home before I completely crash out in bed. It's been a stressful day, one that I will never forget.
