𝟎𝟏 perfect prefect

The tall brunette girl strolls proudly into the Hufflepuff common room with an obnoxious smile on her face. Her shiny new prefect badge settling nicely on her black and yellow robes as her long ponytail sways behind her.

Even thought it was guaranteed for Ruth — I mean who else would be more perfect to be a prefect — it was another feather in her cap to flaunt. Especially towards Theseus Scamander.

Oh how Ruth despises Theseus. He always tries to one up her no matter what she does.

The brunette brews her draught of peace potion to a beautiful turquoise blue color, but Theseus' potion has a better shimmer to it. Ruth aces her exam on the Goblin Rebellion of 1612, but Theseus gets extra credit because of the length and diction of his essay.

I think you understand how this goes. But, there is one thing Ruth Clayden will always be better than Theseus at, and that is quidditch.

The Hufflepuff acquired the position as quidditch captain in her third year, younger than any Hufflepuff has ever been elected. Professor Garlick, the head of Hufflepuff, chose Ruth after seeing her dedication to quidditch after the old captain transferred to Durmstrang. Of course Ruth happily took it and of course she proudly wore the silver badge wherever she went — especially to rub it in Scamander's face.

She approaches her best, and only, friend as her smile grows bigger, "Hello fellow prefect."

Mary Watkins greets her friend with an even bigger smile as she spots the similar yellow badge, "Well hello fellow prefect."

The two embrace in relief when they affirm that both of them achieved the positions.

"I had no doubt." Ruth states, pulling away from the hug, "You're the only other perfect candidate. I wonder who the two other are. Sixth year has no prefects so we got four this year."

Mary opens her mouth to speak to only get interrupted by a crowd of cheering boys entering the common room. Immediately, Ruth knows the source and a frown flies to her face as she turns around. With her arms crossed, the girl approaches the crowd with confident strides.

The crowd quiets down as they spot the obvious confrontation that is about to begin.

"Well, I guess they had no other choice," Ruth states, stopping in front of the crowd, "Now we are sadly stuck with you."

Theseus' smirk doesn't wear off as he steps away from his crowd of friends, "Not as sad as everyone else is when they find out that you're a prefect."

"Wow," she responds, a laugh escaping her lips, "Great comeback. I guess all your brain power went into convincing professor to give you the position."

The Hufflepuff boy looks back at his friends, his smirk not wavering. One blond nudges him, as if to say 'go on. tell her' and he did.

"Well, since you're inquiring about it, I was the first person to know and the first person chosen."

Ruth rolls her eyes and readjusts her stance, "As if. They just told you that to make you feel better. After all, since you threw such a big fit over quidditch captain."

That comment hit Theseus as his smirk turned into a scowl, "You only got it because your mom was quidditch captain as well. The perks of having legacy I guess."

"Oh please, my heritage has nothing to do with this. If family was considered for anything, you would be doing a lot better in Care of Magical Creatures... but look at where you are now... a hippogriff not even bowing to you."

He shakes his head, his tongue poking his cheek as he approaches the brunette, his finger pointing at her, "That was one time in third year. When will you give that up."

"When. I'm. Dead." Ruth quips back before swiftly turning around, her ponytail successfully whipping him in his face. She hooks her arms with Mary before the two head to their dormitories, a triumphant look on her face.

"Oh.. that can be arranged," Theseus whispers before turning back to the crowd, only to find it dispersed and only his friend left.

Adam Kinley stands there, shaking his head, "Will you two ever give it up. What's the point?"

The other boy rolls his eyes before plopping onto the tan leather couch in front of the fireplace, "The point is that she thinks she is so much better than me. Her arrogance is outstanding and unnerving."

"Oh, like you are the humblest in the room," Adam retorts, sitting on a wooden chair across from the couch, "One day the two of you will get in trouble for all the bickering."

Theseus scoffs at his friends remarks before looking at the portrait of Helga Hufflepuff on the wall, only to see her nodding in agreement with the younger boy.

"Are you kidding me? You too?!"
