Chapter 7 - Seeing Red
I ran my fingers through my hair and sighed. I've not even been here one day and I've nearly been in a fight three times.
"I don't think I can take much more of this." I covered my face with my hands for a few seconds, just wanting to block out the world.
"She's got nothing on you." Dean said, trying to cheer me up. "You didn't do anything except push her after she'd done it to you. Steph won't take that." He put a hand on my shoulder. "Plus, by the sound of it Steph is on your side already, she'll just shout at Nikki for being unprofessional!" He smirked a little and something told me he would have been happy to be stood outside that office when it all kicked off.
"Who pissed Nikki off?" A porcelain skinned, black haired girl practically skipped into the room. Obviously seeing Nikki angry had made her day. "It certainly wasn't me this time!" She laughed. Dean quickly whipped his hand away from my shoulder and back to his side. Paige stopped right in front of us and squinted her eyes at me. "Are you new or...?"
"Paige, this is Chloe. Chloe, this is Paige." Dean introduced us to each other. I held my hand out and she shook it. "Chloe is here on community service." He nodded his head in the direction of the broken ring.
"You did that?" Paige said, her demeanour changing towards me in an instant. I nodded sheepishly.
"I was one of them yes. But I'm here to try and get it all back to how it was. I am really sorry about it." I rambled on, attempting to stop another person hating me before they became another wrestler who hated me with a passion and wanted to make my life a misery. The last thing I needed was a group of Nikki's beating me up and pushing me down.
"And you angered Nikki?" Paige continued. Once again, I nodded. She was surely just adding this to the pile of 'reasons to hate Chloe' everyone had in their minds. Despite the summer heat and taking off half my layers of clothing, I was still boiling and this interrogation was only making me more nervous and even hotter. "What happened?"
"I can't remember, I think I called her a fake bitch." I shrugged. I never remembered what I'd done to cause an argument or a fight but I always remembered the details to the fights I had done. It was like I had a selective memory or something. I'd remember what punches I pulled, what injuries I'd received but I never ever remembered how it started. Paige tried desperately to hide the smile that wanted to appear on her face and she looked at Dean to double check I was right.
"Yeah, she called her that but only after Nikki had insulted her. Then she threw dust in Nikki's face but only after Nikki had shoved her into a pile of glass. Most recently she shoved Nikki to the floor but only because Nikki shoved her first. You missed the whole thing!" Dean told Paige, making sure I never sounded like I was in the wrong. He was looking out for me, just like Eli would normally. It was a strange feeling, but a nice one. I felt loved for once, instead of hated.
"Wow." Paige said, a look of disbelief on her face. "I think you and me are going to get along just fine." The smile she'd tried to hide was released and she pulled me in for a hug. "You've no idea how bad she's been to me this last few months." Paige whispered into my ear. "Between us we may be able to bring her back down to earth." We parted from the hug and I let out another smile. OK so two out of about ten people seemed to like me at the moment, that wasn't a bad ratio for someone like me who has a big mouth and gets into trouble!
"Not to mention she tried to hit Nikki with part of a hoover and a large piece of wood." Dean added in, knowing that'd only make Paige happier. My face dropped. He'd seen how much I'd wanted to hit her with that wood? I didn't even say or do anything that time!
"You noticed that?" I swung my gaze round to Dean.
"You were gripping on to that wood to the point your knuckles were white and your arms were practically shaking. Not to mention the horrible evil death glare you were giving her." He said, a corner of his mouth turned up into a smirk. Am I getting that bad that I cant even hide my feelings towards someone anymore? I used to be the fakest person out there; I could act nice to their face and five seconds later I could knock the teeth out of their mouth without them suspecting a thing. Now a guy could notice my feelings from fifty feet away? Was I losing my touch or did he just know these feelings all too well?
"You don't miss a thing!" I replied, suspiciously. "And there I was trying to be inconspicuous!" We all laughed and Paige put her arm around my shoulders.
"We're definitely going to get on!"
It was as if all the happiness was sucked out of the air as soon as we saw Nikki walk back into the training room with Brie by her side, Seth and Roman running to catch up with them. They had one job and it was to keep Nikki and I away from each other – which they failed at... Miserably. Dean shot them both a glare to which they just shrugged in reply.
"Oh, I see you two idiots have gotten acquainted." Nikki's voice echoed the room. "Well, you know what they say people always stick with their own kind." She looked Paige up and down in the same way she had to me earlier. "Oh Paige, I thought you'd grown out of wearing your mum's hand-me-downs. When are you ever going to get decent taste in clothes like Brie and I?" Paige and I exchanged unimpressed glances at each other but before Paige had time to spit out a reply, I was already there.
"We're idiots?" I said, pointing at the two of us. Nikki nodded happily. "Well you know what they say..." I mimicked. "It takes one to know one." Paige let out a roar of laughter and Dean bit his lips shut. I even noticed Seth and Roman snickering in the background. I was on a roll. I could see Nikki and Brie getting wound up by what I was saying and that would only spur me on even more. "And as for Paige's clothes, which may I add are pretty awesome, I would rather wear her great-grandmothers hand-me-downs than wear anything from you and look like a trollop." Paige turned away from us all and laughed, wiping tears away from her eyes before they had a chance to fall and ruin her makeup. She bent over and put her hand on her knee, gasping for breath between laughs.
"Well anything would be better than what you're wearing now!" Nikki attempted, but everyone was still too caught up in my little outburst to even listen to her. She clenched her fists and shook her head. "How can any of these people even stand you?" She shouted at me. "You broke in here and ruined our training ground, costing us time preparing for matches, and these people want to hug you and give you a pat on the back and be friends?" She looked at me in disgust and turned her nose up at me. "The only kind of people that'll be your friend in this place are the worthless nobodies who will never make it in the WWE anyway." Her words echoed round in my head. I didn't mind if she insulted me, I could handle that, but insulting the people who were just being friendly to me? That was a step too far. Just because she obviously had a vendetta against anyone new who walks in the front door – namely Paige and myself – doesn't mean she has the right to go around bullying people and insulting them! My blood was boiling and I was seeing red. No-one should ever insult others just because they have nice personalities and no bad bones in their body. If someone needed bullying and teaching a lesson, it was Nikki. Bringing myself back into reality I noticed I was squared up to Nikki, my body tensed and my fists clenched.
"If you want to insult me, that's fine, do your worst but don't insult people just because they are nicer than you and have more talent in their little finger than you have in your whole body. If you really want to show you're better than me, then come on... Fight me!" I took a step back and brought my hands up to my face as a guard. "I fight people on streets, no cameras and no choreography. If you think you can beat me then give it your best shot... but something tells me you won't cos you don't want to break a nail." Nikki snarled at me and I returned it, she took a step back and raised her guard too.
Great. Time to show her who is boss.
