Chapter 22 - Team Talk
Roman's POV
We got everyone together early in the morning and sat around the table in the 'ideas' room. Dean managed to call most of the people into the room before I'd even arrived, but I quickly grabbed Paige as I saw her and we were all there; Dean, Seth, Lana, Dolph, Nattie, Paige and I. Dean took a seat at the top of the table and got everyone's attention.
"Right everyone, thank you for coming." Dean began, all eyes suddenly on him. "Roman, Seth and I have been talking. We need your help. I'm going to explain it all to you, if you're interested in helping us then that's fine and if you're not, that's fine, just leave." Dean said, a little harsher than I think he meant. Everyone exchanged confused looks.
"What he's trying to say is we want to help a person out and if you guys could help us we'd really appreciate it." Seth said, getting the point across a lot better to these terrified looking friends. Their faces seemed to relax a little more, but everyone was still concerned with who we were talking about and what we were going to do to help them.
"Alright. We're all ears." Dolph smiled, looking over to everyone who smiled and nodded in agreement.
"Basically... Well, Roman will probably explain it better." Dean gestured over to me, all eyes suddenly on me which was unnerving for me. I'd not planned one word to say, I was just going to have to go along with it...
"Ok, basically it's about Chloe." I began and I could instantly see some people were happier to listen than others. "We think she's associated with some bad people." This caught everyone's attention. "I've spent some time with her, when we had the ring incident, and I got talking to her. She does have a short temper and a big mouth but she is a nice girl. Thing is, she spoke about this friend who got her into trouble and into situations she didn't want to be in. She admitted to me it wasn't just her that broke into this place yet she's the only one here..." Everyone looked at each other surprised and a few gasped and muttered themselves.
"So we feel like we need an intervention. If we could give her a decent support network here, maybe she wouldn't associate with this guy or these people anymore and she'd stay out of trouble." Seth carried on for me, knowing he could sell it the best.
"Just like everyone did with me." Dean said, staring down at the table. He didn't want to look at people and see the sympathetic looks they were giving him, but the way he had said it was genuine and really hit home with a lot of these people. Nattie smiled and nodded her head at me.
"I haven't really spoken to her but I'm happy to help. If she ever wants to talk to me, she can." Nattie looked between me, Seth and Dean with a smile.
"I'm definitely up for it." Paige nodded enthusiastically. "She's in my good books for what she did to Nikki anyway. If I can help her, I will."
"Well..." Lana began, shifting in her seat awkwardly. "I don't really get why you called me here. I'm not the best woman in this place to ask for advice from and she doesn't even know who I am." She shrugged. Dean looked over to me and shook his head, frustrated.
"We just thought it'd be nice for her to have a few women to talk to, you know, like sisters." I started. "Obviously she doesn't know you yet but after a few hours in your company she might feel comfortable. You seem like a really approachable lady." I hoped complimenting her would help our case and it seemed to work, she offered me a smile and nodded her head.
"Well, I'm already involved as far as I'm concerned." Dolph smirked. "I was there when she was getting the stitches and from that moment I assumed I was in the group." We all looked around the table and grinned.
"Thank you guys, we really appreciate it." Dean grinned, like he'd gained a new level of love for all the people in this room. It was the first time I'd seen him so passionate about something which both made me happy and made me worry. The last thing we needed was him falling for her purely because she could drag him back down to the place we just got him away from. None of us wanted to see the old Dean back, the one who got into fights with strangers in the reception and would backchat the trainers and walk out of sessions... He needed to stay focussed.
"So what do we need to do and when do we start?" Nattie quizzed us but truth be told we hadn't even got this far in the plan. We'd assumed most people would have said no and the fact everyone was in on it made it so much better but so much more difficult. How were we going to get all these people known to Chloe without her becoming suspicious?
"Well, I've got a good idea but it involves one lady who isn't in this room..." Everyone looked around and then back to Seth, eyebrows raised and confused expressions on their faces. "Chloe taught Brie and Nikki how to punch better on the punch bag. If we can get Brie in on this, she can go up to Chloe with Nattie, Lana and Paige and Chloe could show you all how to punch. You may already know it or whatever but if you pretended you didn't then you could get talking to her and maybe have a time where all the girls got together to practice or something?" Seth continued.
"We might be able to do better than that." Lana said quickly. "If we talk to Steph, maybe we can get her to help our actual wrestling practice and spot us in the gym. She could be a huge help to our training." She let out a proud smile, obviously happy that our faces were all beaming by the time she'd finished and we obviously liked her idea.
"Let's do that." Dean said. "She should be here soon and we could start it today if Brie agrees." Dean's face fell slightly, obviously imagining this entire thing going wrong if Brie says she won't help us – which if I'm honest was exactly what was going around in my head too. I was already scared, what if she'd got in a fight last night? What if she turned up looking even worse for wear? Would I be able to control my mouth around her? Would I demand to know who Darren was and ruin the trust? What if she didn't even turn up today?
"Roman? You alright?" I looked up to see Dean standing beside me, his hand on my shoulder. Everyone else in the room had left and I hadn't even noticed. I let out a fake laugh and nodded.
"Yeah, I was in my own world then, sorry!" I laughed, trying to style out the fact my mind was just thinking of every negative possibility today could bring. We had a plan and it was a damn good one, why was I still being so negative?
"That's alright. Listen, I'm going to head to the ring and practice with Dolph, I'll let you know when Chloe arrives." Dean smiled as soon as he mentioned her name. "I'm glad we're trying to help her out. Maybe she'll turn out as good as me." He let out a laugh and jokily punched my arm.
"With any luck!" I said, faking a joyful smile. With any luck she won't turn you back into the man you used to be.
