Chapter 17 - Reminiscing

The conversation seemed to be going well, I'd told Eli about Roman and Dean and unfortunately about Nikki, I'd said I'd met Paige, Dolph, Brie and Seth and how most of them were nice people. I'd told him about how I covered up the fight we'd been involved in and then went on to explain how this many hours of community service was sure to kill me if all of that drama could happen in one day. He listened intently, as if making a mental note of everything I said, which scared me a little. I knew he was going to go back to the WWE training centre and make even more of a statement but I didn't want to let on that I'd worked it out. The last thing I needed was for him to try and get me involved in it so I kept quiet.

"They said if I do well enough there and they're impressed with me they might offer me a job." I finally finished, an expression of pure happiness on my face. I might finally get a job and be on my way to making my life that bit better. I needed to take control of my life.

"Offer you a job?" Eli growled and my face dropped. I'd been so consumed in talking about my day I'd forgotten what he'd told me mere minutes ago. They refused his job offer. They said he was too unprofessional and there I was trashing the place and getting community service and they offered me a job. "Those assholes. I'll show them unprofessional!" He stood up but I grabbed his arm, pulling him back to the sofa.

"I probably wont take it though." I lied through my teeth to distract him. "I'd miss hanging out with you too much." I let out a smile. I needed to hook him in before it was too late and he was over there burning the place down. "I miss the old days when we were younger and just used to go around the streets and fight people who'd done wrong to us at some point." He smiled back as we reminisced.

"When we lived together in that flat and would sort out each other's wounds." He replied. I had him. I just needed to carry on and take his mind off of the WWE.

"Exactly." I nodded. "Remember that time we had that fight with the gang Phoenix? They used pipes and you had that big cut across your left shoulder blade?"

"You bought me a bottle of Jack Daniels to numb the pain." He laughed. "And it worked. I didn't remember a thing!" I let out a small, silent laugh. "And the time DeeJay's girlfriend wanted to be a part of that fight and you sorted her out so easily you ended up fighting him too." The grin grew bigger on my face. How much easier life was then when we didn't have to worry about who we were or where we were, we just walked around and no one messed with us because if they did, they'd lose. Now we're older and worry about jail and court and jobs and money. How I longed to be young again.

"Yeah, he threw me against that fence and the padlock caused that huge bruise." I remembered, touching the back of my arm.

"And I went over there the next day and finished him off." Eli added. I let out a dorky laugh and shook my head.

"You broke his nose." I corrected. "And he had to be driven in by an ambulance. He was fine."

"But did he ever go near us again?" Eli questioned and I shook my head. "Well there we go then.

"Alright, I'll give you that one." I smiled. "You want a drink?" He nodded and I got off the sofa and headed to the fridge, opening it and getting out two of the four bottles of beer I'd put in there earlier.

"Nice to know your priorities." Eli laughed as I handed him a bottle. I went to get the bottle opener but as I turned round he used his teeth to pull the bottle cap off and let it fall to the floor with a soft metallic clink. I shook my head.

"How many times do I need to say that's bad for you?"

"Beer's bad for you too but you're giving me that." He retaliated and once again I was left speechless. I opened by bottle and put it down on the coffee table. I grabbed the few snacks I had bought and left in the cupboard and opened them, pouring out the contents into bowls that I put down on the coffee table in front of us. "So are those snacks."

"Bite me." I shot back. "At least I'm being a decent host for an uninvited guest."

"Ouch." He held his hand over his heart and acted hurt. "But the best uninvited guest you could ask for."

"I could think of better." I sat down and grabbed a couple of crisps, shoving them in my mouth. The first food I'd consumed all day.

"Like who?" He looked at me with that expression a friend does when they want to hear the gossip.

"A couple of the guys from the WWE." I smirked. "They're pretty nice looking."

"It's not only about looks, Chlo." Eli reminded me. "To be an uninvited guest you've gotta have a great personality to keep them from throwing you out the door."

"Yeah, you're lacking that too." I joked and he threw a playful punch at my arm. It was only then he stopped smiling and just stared down at my arm. The bruises were coming out now and it was becoming more obvious just how much Yusuf had wanted to properly injure me during that fight.

"Was that him too?" The happy atmosphere had fallen like a dead weight and a tense atmosphere had now overtaken it.

"Yeah, but it's alright, nothing too bad." I said, trying to move on from this as quickly as possible. After what we'd talked about I could only see this going one way, and that meant going back to Gio's.

"I think he needs to be taught a lesson for hurting you so much." Eli's face scrunched up in anger.

"Eli, it's fine! I'm fine, honestly!" I tried to put his mind at ease but I knew this wasn't going to work, he had his mind made up now and we were just going to have to deal with it.

"You said you wanted it to be like old times... What do you say to a quick visit to Yusuf and his goonies?" He cracked his knuckles as he readied himself for a fight.

"Don't you mean Graham and his gang?"

"Nah, Graham isn't a leader. He didn't stand and fight with his men. Yusuf is the one we need to watch out for." He pointed again at my arms and then at my face. "He obviously doesn't care who he hits!" Eli's body tensed.

"Eli, it's not a good idea. What if someone from the training centre sees me beating someone up?" I remained reluctant, trying to find a way to get out of it as best as I could.

"Then make up a story." He said bluntly. "Look, I'm going to teach him a lesson, are you coming or not?" He looked at me and awaited an answer. I could hardly say no. I'd just sat there and wished it to be like it was a few years ago and now I have that exact opportunity I'm trying to get out of it. He's doing this for me, teaching them a lesson for hurting me that badly. He'd just spent all that time praising me and showing his love for me. I couldn't let him down. Could I?

"Let me get my keys."
