Chapter 13 - Investigation

Dean's POV

Dolph was now fully up to date with everything he'd missed today and he was speechless. He'd been out of the training room for one morning and missed a new girl coming in and missed her getting into fights with one of the most popular Divas in the roster. He looked between her and us a few times before he let out a sigh and shook his head.

"Still can't believe she was this close to hitting Nikki." He put his finger and thumb together but separated them by about one millimetre.

"Yeah, but Chloe just stepped down from the fight and said it wasn't worth it." I added. Thank God she had, otherwise who knows how that would have ended! I could only imagine it; Nikki would have lost and been beaten to a pulp, Steph would have come in and instantly dismissed Chloe and thrown her out. She would have ended up back in court and then in Jail, which wasn't the kind of place she should be in. She's got her bad side but as I said there was a good one.

"Alright, we're all done here." The medic said happily, tidying up the tray of things beside him. Chloe practically jumped out of the chair and stared at herself in the mirror for a few seconds, taking it all in. I couldn't blame her though; we were all doing the same thing. I'd left her and Roman to go and grab something from my locker to show Paige and the next time I see her she's bruised, battered and bleeding. I just couldn't fathom it. I needed to talk to Roman and work out what had happened.

"Right, lets get back to the training room. I've got a ring to fix." She said, clapping her hands together. We all exchanged glances. She can't be serious, can she?

"Chloe, I don't think that's a good idea. If the ring collapsed onto you there's probably no point fixing it. We'll just get a new one." I said, the protective side of me taking over. It wasn't just that though, I had a feeling Nikki was going to be back in the room pretty soon and she'd want to take Chloe on more than ever now, especially if news about Chloe's injuries had travelled around as much as I thought they would have. Gossip in this place never stays quiet, once one person knows the whole place does. Nothing is ever safe.

"I'm fine." She silenced me. "I just want to get on with what I came here to do." She walked out of the door before we had any time to come out with a reply and she'd rendered us all speechless.

"Dolph, can you do me a favour? Just go after her and check she's alright please." I asked Dolph, who nodded and left the room without question. Dolph was a good guy, me and him got on really well and we seemed to understand each other better than a lot of people did. He knew I just wanted him to leave so I could speak with Roman, and I thanked him for that. Roman and I stood up and left the medic's room, walking down the empty corridor together.

"What are you going to quiz me on this time?" Roman looked over at me humorously.

"Chloe. There's just so much I don't understand." I couldn't shake this unsure feeling in the back of my head and I needed Roman to help me sort it out. She'd changed in that short time I'd been gone and I needed to know why.

"Well I'm not going to be much help, Dean, I've spoken to her like twice..." Roman shrugged. He noticed my face drop and sighed. "But I'll try and help."

"I need you to be completely honest with me, brother to brother. I don't want to hear the bullshit stories you're feeding everyone else. You know me, I won't tell a soul but I want to make sure Chloe is alright. I know those wounds weren't from the ring." It was the hugest assumption I'd ever made but I needed to know the truth. All I needed was Roman's reaction and I'd be half way to solving this problem. Roman paused, looking me dead in the eyes as he contemplated feeding me the lie they were telling everyone else or not. He eventually let out a sigh and ran his fingers through his hair. A telltale sign. I was right.

"She made me promise not to tell anyone." He said quietly. I was taken aback by his comment, was he seriously putting his promise to her above my worry for her? We'd known each other all this time and he was putting her above me? The plot only seemed to thicken.

"Roman..." I pressed, hoping he would break and tell me.

"I can't." He said, his gaze at the floor. I grabbed his shoulder, span him round to face me and pushed him up against the wall.

"Roman, I'm not fucking about here. Chloe could be in serious trouble and you're acting like this?" I hissed in his face, glaring at him. A fire began to burn in my stomach, mixed with fear. What if she was in trouble? What if she went home today and never came back? I needed to sort this out quickly.

"Acting like what?" Roman spat back, shoving me away from him.

"I'm not an idiot! I know those wounds were from a fight. Either you fought her or someone else did. If it was someone else, what's stopping them from attacking her again tonight? Or tomorrow?" I threw my arms up in frustration. How can Roman be so stupid? Why is he not seeing it from the same perspective as me?

"I didn't fight her! I'd never hit a woman! What kind of person do you think I am?" He shouted back at me but that's all I needed him to say. He'd just told me in a roundabout way that she'd been involved in a fight and that's where she'd got those injuries from. I smirked and folded my arms, feeling clever.

"So she was in a fight."

"You're a stubborn asshole." Roman said as he began to walk back down the corridor again. I tried my best to keep up with his big strides and stay beside him.

"Look, I'm not doing this to prove a point... I'm genuinely worried. Those were pretty bad cuts. Whoever did it didn't give a shit who was on the receiving end of it..." A wave of nausea hit me as I imagined someone towering over Chloe's small frame, hitting her as if she were a punch bag.

"I know, Dean." Roman sighed heavily and ran his fingers through his hair once more. "So am i."

"Then we need to get to the bottom of it. I need as much information as I can." I rambled. "You're the best person to find it out. She trusts you. You just acted in front of the whole roster to make people think she'd been injured by the ring. I'd say she owes you big time."

"I did that because I owed her big time." Roman admitted.

"What are you talking about?" I spat. Every time I thought I understood the situation, something else cropped up to throw me off.

"She didn't fight Nikki because I pleaded with her not to." Roman said quietly. "But no one can know that." He was quick to change his tone and it became threatening. He motioned for me to zip my lips shut and I nodded.

"I wont ask... Not yet. Right now I need you to head to that room and I need you to find out who it was that beat her up."
