Chapter 15

We were in car driving somewhere I didn't know. Frank was being suspicious, though. He seemed excited as he sang while he drove. It was already three in the afternoon when we crossed the border into New York and then soon we pulled into a parking lot. He smiled, opening the door for me. Neither of us still said anything as we walked through the parking lot and I gasped as I saw a whole pier fair.

I looked at Frank with watery eyes as I gave him a hug. He bought us entrance bracelets and I smiled as I went in. Frank bought some tickets before joining me.

"What do you think?" He asked.

"This is the nicest thing anyone's ever done for me," I said.

"What would you like to do first?" He asked.

"I don't know, there's so much here," I mumbled.

"How about we start off with bumper cars?" He asked.

I smiled and nodded as we headed over. We got into the carts and waited for it to start. As soon as it powered up, we started racing around. Frank rammed into me and I laughed, running away from him. When the machines whirred down, we got out and walked around. We spent all day just eating snacks and going on rides. When the sun set, we went onto the Ferris wheel.

"Thanks for today," I said. "I've had a really amazing time."

Frank reached over to hold onto my hand. I blushed, looking at the sunrise. When we got off, we got some elephant ears before leaving the fair. We went to a dock and sat at the end, watching as the stars began to shine in the sky.

"Frankie, why did your family ball seem so weird?" I asked. "It didn't seem like a yearly event."

"About that," he mumbled. "We lied. Jamia and I made it up just so we could spend more time with you and then we forgot and had to plan it last minute."

"You did that all for me?" I asked and he nodded.

I leaned over, gently pressing my lips against his. Frank kissed me back, placing his hand on my cheek. My heart was racing as we kissed. I could taste the cinnamon sugar on his tongue. We pulled apart slowly but I couldn't look him in the eyes as I smiled and blushed.

"That was amazing," he whispered.

I giggled, holding his hand.

"Do you want to head back?" He asked.

"Not yet, I'm really happy right now," I said.

Frank smiled as I put my head on his shoulder. We watched the waves move softly under the moonlight together eating our dessert until I got tired.

We walked back to the car and neither of us could stop giggling as we drove back. When we got home, Frank and I walked back upstairs.

"D-do you want me to sleep in your bed?" I asked.

"It's up to you, you don't have to if you don't want to," he said.

"Okay, I kind of want to sleep in my bed alone, I don't know if I'm ready," I said. "But do you wanna hang out a little longer?"

Frank smiled and nodded. I grabbed Matcha and some of her toys before going to his room. She played around as we sat on the couch together. Frank put on a movie and I hesitated before cuddling up next to him.

"What are we?" I whispered.

"What do you want to be?" He asked.

"I'm scared," I mumbled.

"Why?" He asked, pulling back to look at me.

I didn't say anything as I looked down, my eyes watering.

"Gee, I would never, ever hurt you," he said. "I know it might be hard because of everything you went through with Andy so if you don't want to be in a relationship just yet then you don't have to be. Just let me know what you want."

I tapped my middle finger to my thumb.

"I-I think I might actually want to be in a relationship with you," I said.

"I would love that," he said.

I looked up at him with a shy smile before laying down with my head on his lap. He smiled down at me and ran his fingers through my hair. I began dozing off on his lap before getting startled awake when Matcha knocked over a stack of books.

I blushed as I sat up, looking down at my lap.

"I should probably get back to my room now, it's late," I said.

Frank nodded, leaning close to give me a soft kiss.

"Alright, I hope you have sweet dreams, beautiful," he said.

My blush spread all around my face now. Frank grabbed Matcha and carried her back to my room with me. He set her onto the condo but she went flying as she ran to the bathroom.

"Is it weird for me to tuck you in?" He asked.

I shook my head. "C-can you just turn around while I change."

Frank turned and I changed before crawling into bed. Frank sat beside me, gently running his fingers through my hair.

"You're so beautiful," he whispered

I blushed and shook my head.

"You are," he said in the same soft tone. "You are one of the most beautiful guys I have ever laid my eyes on. And I love the teal roots, it's very unique and edgy. You're so perfect, Gee, and you can't let anyone tell you otherwise."

He kissed my forehead and smiled before leaving, shutting the door and turning off the lights. I couldn't sleep, though, and ended up grabbing the tv remote. I turned on the tv, letting it illuminate the dark room. I heard Matcha scratching in her litter box before she came over and climbed up the bed to sit with me.

"Hey, sweetie," I said.

I rubbed her tummy as I flipped through the channels. There wasn't a whole lot on at this time of night. I finally watched old reruns on Comedy Central. Matcha started attacking my hand before going psycho around the bed.

"You're crazy, Matcha," I laughed.

My phone buzzed with a message from Bert asking about a homework assignment. I gave a small message back about what to do before opening Instagram. I looked at my account at all the photos of flowers I saw around campus as well as the photos of me and Andy. I bit my lip, clicking one before I hovered my thumb over the delete button. My heart was racing, my stomach twisting. In the end, I didn't end up deleting anything.

Matcha picked up her favorite mouse toy and began wrestling with it aggressively. I watched the tv, part of me still scared Andy was going to find me and hurt me. I never should have kissed Frank, Andy is going to be so mad. He knows, he's gonna be so mad at me.

My eyes watered as I shrunk into the bed. It felt like an impending doom of when Andy will get back and hurt me. He won't come back though, right? You're not able to just leave military school, right? But he probably can which means he's going to come back and realize that Frank and I like each other and we kissed.

"It's okay, Gee, he doesn't know where you live now," I whispered to myself. "But he knows where all my classes are, oh god."

My eyes watered as I looked around. I got up and went over back to Frank's room. He was laying in bed on his phone when I entered.

"Hey, what's wrong?" He asked, propping himself up on his elbows.

"Andy is gonna kill me," I whispered.

Frank hurried over to wrap his arms around me.

"Nothing is going to happen to you," he said. "I promise, Andy will never bother you again."

"You don't know that, you can't promise me that," I said.

"Gee, I have a feeling he's not gonna come back, you're safe here," he said. "We have security guards and cameras all around the house, no one gets inside without permission."

"Why do you have security guards?" I asked.

It seems like such an unusual thing to have.

"My dad has a bit of paranoia," he said. "The point is that no one will hurt you here. No one is ever going to hurt you again."

I sniffled and nodded, resting my head on his shoulder.

"I know that it's scary and it's going to take a long time for it to not be scary but I promise I will be here through it with you the entire time," he said.

"Can I sleep in here?" I asked.

He nodded and set me up in the bed before going to lay on the couch. He played music softly and it did actually keep my mind a little bit more at ease. I just kept trying to think about the kiss and how absolutely perfect it felt. I loved the way it made me feel and I also love being around Frank. But I also loved being around Andy at the beginning too. What if mine and Frank's relationship turns out just like mine and Andy's?
