Chapter 14
Frank was showing me all around when we finally got to the guest bedroom. It was just as big as Frank's room but with soft, muted colors. I set my suitcase against the wall and he smiled.
"I moved Matcha's condo and shit in here too," he said. "She's in the bathroom where the litter box is too. The maids can clean it for you and there's a hamper in the closet they'll clean your clothes too."
"No, that's okay," I said. "I-I don't really feel comfortable having other people clean up after me."
"Okay," he said. "Do you need some help unpacking?"
"It's okay," i said.
"I would love to help you but I would need your permission to touch your personal possessions," he said.
"Okay," I said shyly.
Frank smiled and grabbed some of the boxes from the car. He helped me to put my clothes and items away. Matcha was let loose when we were done and she meowed as she ran up to me. I smiled, giving her a hug.
"God, I am so excited," he said.
Frank hadn't stopped smiling since I agreed to move in. I sat Matcha onto her condo and looked around.
"You can have free rein over the kitchen," he said. "We have lots of stuff. We do have limited quantities of meat, though. I'm vegetarian so we still have meat because everyone else it's it but me. Also if you ever need anything we have a shopping list on the fridge and my maid does grocery shopping every Sunday so just put it on theirs. Things like ice cream or shampoo or cat food or whatever."
"I can't let you guys spend the money on me," I said.
"Gee, it's okay and my parents are totally cool with you staying here," he said. "They really wanted to help you."
"Do they know I crossdress?" I asked. "I don't want to upset them if I do."
"You can wear whatever you want," he said.
I smiled, sighing softly.
"I'm gonna take a shower," I said.
"Okay, you should put on a dress after," he said.
"Why?" I asked.
"I know they make you happy and you should be happy," he said.
I smiled and took a quick shower before getting dressed. I put on a simple pastel yellow summer dress and walked out. Matcha ran up to me with a little note tied to her collar. I opened it up and found a map. I followed the directions through a house down a secret stairwell and into the backyard. There were some woods it told me to go through and I stuck to the path before finding a small clearing. Frank was there, giving me a small wave as he sat on a light blue blanket next to a picnic basket.
"What is this?" I asked.
"this is a relaxing Saturday," he said.
I sat down, tucking my hair behind my head.
"You didn't have to do this," I said.
"I do," he said. "Because the next time you date someone I want you to see how you should be treated and you shouldn't date them if they treat you any less than how I treat you."
I blushed. "You're showing me for the next person I date? I thought you liked me."
"I do but it's okay if you don't like me," he said. "And I know you probably don't so I won't be upset if you wanna date someone else because you just deserve to be with someone you like and I'll be happy if you're happy."
He pulled out some tupperware of food. There were crepes, fruit, chips, sandwiches, water bottles, and some juice boxes. Andy never would have done all this for me.
"I don't really know how to cook but I do make killer grilled cheese sandwiches," he said. "I think the secret is to give it enough cheese that makes it look like it would give you a heart attack. I suggest eating that first, it's nice and hot."
I smiled as I picked up a triangle half, watching the gooey cheese stretch. I took a bite and felt my mouth burn with a taste so good I couldn't describe it so instead I just gave Frank a huge smile and a thumbs up. We ate happily, cracking jokes a lot. It was easy with him, so much easier than it ever was with Andy.
"Frankie, if you like me then why haven't you kissed me yet?" I asked as I looked over at him while we were laying on the ground staring up at the clouds.
"Because I won't kiss you without your permission," he said.
I bit my lip and stared straight back up at the blue sky overhead.
"You okay?" He asked, noticing the goose bumps on my skin.
"Yeah, it's just gotten kind of cold since we got here," I said.
Frank sat up and took off his zip up hoodie, laying it over me like a blanket. He looked down at me with a soft smile before laying back down.
"I'm glad you're staying here," he said.
"I am too," I said.
My heart was pounding in my chest like it might explode as I reached over to hold his hand. I saw him smile out of the corner of my eye and give my hand a soft squeeze. Frank looked over at me and I looked back. Neither of us spoke, just stared.
Eventually I fell asleep. When I woke up it was dark out and Frank was asleep as well. I shook him gently and he yawned. He glanced up at me before looking around.
"What time is it?" He asked.
"Half past nine," I said.
I helped Frank pack everything up and we walked back to his house. We went up to his room after he dropped the picnic basket in the kitchen. I sat on the bed after going to get Matcha from my room.
"Hello my sweet little baby," I said.
Frank smiled, sitting down on the couch. I went over to sit with him as Matcha ran around excitedly.
"Hey, Gee, I don't wanna be rude or have you take this the wrong way but I have a question," he said, making my stomach drop. "How did you get to be so perfect."
I blushed, looking away as my stomach fluttered.
"You are amazing," he said.
"Well, I don't know about that," I mumbled.
"I do, I'm looking at you," he said.
"You're too nice," I said.
Frank smiled, shaking his head. "I'm only being honest."
I shushed him, my whole face practically red.
"So, pretty boy like you come here often?" He asked and I didn't say anything. "Sorry, was that too much? I was just messing around, I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable."
"Andy used to say that to me a lot," I said. "D-do you think that he misses me?"
"I can't answer that," he said. "I don't know but I do know he didn't care about you nearly as much as you cared for him."
"I hope he's safe," I mumbled. "Military school can be dangerous, can't it?"
"I don't know, I don't know anyone who's been to military school," he said. "But he's probably fine, I'm sure he can handle a lot."
"He can, he's really strong," I said with a small smile. "Do you think he'll come back for me? It would be so romantic if he were to run away to come back to me."
"He'll hurt you again," he said.
"But he'll be better, I know it," I said.
"I don't want to see you hurt again, it breaks my heart every single time," he said. "And you know I'll protect you from anyone who tries to hurt you."
"Because you like me?" I asked.
"Because you're sweet and don't deserve to be treated like trash," he said. "You should be given roses every single day and just be showered in gifts. Not even just expensive shit but someone gives you homemade cookies or takes you to the beach or watches a movie with you. Did Andy ever do any of that?"
"We did," I said. "We did all of that when we first started dating but, you know, he just got too busy and stressed when he got the internship."
"You deserve to be treated like that no matter what," he said. "It's stressful to be in school and get an internship but isn't an excuse for treating your partner like shit."
"He didn't mean it, he loves me," I said but even I knew I was lying.
I broke down crying.
"Can I hug you?" He asked.
I debated before I nodded. Frank wrapped an arm around my shoulders before I laid my head on his lap.
"It's gonna be okay," he whispered, running his fingers through my hair.
"I don't want to lose him," I cried. "But he would upset me so much."
"He's gone now anyways, you don't have much of a choice," he said. "It will be hard to move on but he won't be here to hurt you anymore."
"What if he comes back?" I asked.
"I don't think he will," he said. "It's in a different state and so probably far and he doesn't have the money to come back. It probably won't be for a few years and I'm sure you would be moved on and happy before then."
"You have more faith in me than I do," I said.
"I know you're gonna be okay and I will do everything to help make sure you're okay," he said.
"Nobody's ever cared about me so much," I mumbled as I looked up at him.
"I'm sure a lot of people have, they just might not always have the resources to help you like I do," he said.
Frank smiled down at me as he tucked some hair behind my ear. We stayed in his room for the rest of the night, just hanging out and listening to music while binging on snacks.
