There was no way this was happening. Nope, the most popular guy at my school was most definitely not at my front door and that wasn't the doorbell I was hearing.

"Let the boy in Kat." my mother demands as she tries to smooth down my long frizzy brown hair and wipes a pencil smudge from my face with her spit. I wrinkle my nose at her but before I can say anything she's already wrenched the door open and pushed me forward.

"Hey, Jack. What are you doing her?" I question but gesture for him to come in anyway while I silently thank my father for forcing my to clean the house yesterday.

"I came to see if you want to go to the river." Jack states with a smile as if he came over to my house all the time. My green eyes widen and my mind goes blank for a few seconds.

"Oh uh I don't swim." I lie not wanting to tell I thought I was to fat to wear a swimsuit.

"Oh," his face was crest fallen for a second but instantly brightened, "What about the mall?"

"I-uh." I stammer not used to being asked out.

"Go ahead and go, you can clean the fridge out later." my mother says, sealing my fate and so with a slightly forced smile I walk out the door behind me.

"So why me?" I ask once we're in his pick-up.

"What?"

"There are tons of pretty girls you could've asked, why me?" I try to keep my voice even but my insecurities are tearing at my fear gland.

"Because I like you." he declares in a duh voice.

"Oh." my face must reveal my shock because his own expression turns troubled and he pulls off to the side of the road before he turns to me.

"You're amazing, never forget that." he states while he tilts my head up and leans his own head in. I can feel his breath against my lips and my heart pounds in my chest as the realization I'm about to get my first kiss sets in.

"Kat, time to wake up!" my mother shouted from the other side of the sleeping world and with a groan I popped my eyes open.

"Well I did say it wasn't happening." I laughed bitterly before slipping off the bed.
