What Drag Is (And Isn't).
Drag is a form of art in which a person dresses up in a way that is meant to exaggerate a specific gender identity. The most well known part of drag is "drag queens". A drag queen is almost always male, and dresses up as a female. Drag kings also exist, and they are usually women who dress up as men. This is not to be confused with being transgender. A transgender person is someone who identifies as a gender other than the one they were assigned at birth, whereas a drag artist only dresses up as another gender.
Many drag artists have a separate persona that they take the role of during shows. These personas will usually have a different name or even different pronouns than the person acting as them; for example, a drag queen who uses he/him pronouns normally may use she/her pronouns when performing. Again, this does not mean they are transgender.
Drag is usually associated with the LGBTQ+ community due to the fact that drag queens are often queer men. Drag is usually performed at special events and competitions, and the performances commonly involve dancing and singing or lipsyncing.
