18- Bunk Beds
WILL POV-
---- 5:02 PM ----
Will sat still; he dozed off resting his head top of Mike's, perfectly fitting together like a jigsaw.
"Will! Wake up!" A voice quietly informed nudging the smaller boy to awake; he whined shooing the hand away. The hand grabbed his shoulder gently shaking his body to wake him but didn't work as it was swatted away again but eventually, he rubbed his eyes.
Upon realising the position he was in he stood stiff, throwing the tall boy's head away. Somehow, they moved even closer while asleep as Mike's face was basically touching Will's. The ravenette hit his head against the table yelping from the sudden shock. The small boy panicked; afraid he would be shouted at for shoving him and so in an instant he ran off the train to the side, near El and Max.
The train stopped at the deck where it was the only train in that vicinity; It was property of the camp, so it was only a short five-minute walk to the cabins.
Will walked beside his friends but realised he forgot his bags on the train. Instantly Lucas and Mike emerged with double the number of bags than usual. He spot the black backpack with the green stripes to be his that they were carrying as Mike threw a suitcase in his direction; Lucas held the smaller boy's bag claiming it wasn't too heavy. Once the group reached the outdoors of the lodgings, they were all stopped.
"OKAY STUDENTS!" Mr Clark called getting the attention of all the kids in the area. They turned to face him as he was about to give clear instructions; going over the standered rules and code of conduct as they were 'representing the school' and 'young adults'. Will listened carefully; the rules were boring; it was something he already knew about.
"Now I will give everyone their keys for the cabins! Please be careful with them as you only get one each!" The teacher explained rambling more as the box of keys were passed over. They had preplanned what rooms they were going to be in but Will panicked having no recollection of planning anything nudging Dustin's side. "When did we plan these cabin arrangements?" He whispered.
"Ummm..." The curly haired boy thought hard "I don't know" there were gaps in his knowledge. The fact that comic chapters where muddled meant key moments like choosing partners for the trip had not occurred and mentally assumed as though it had. Dustin, chuckled coming to the realisation he had no idea when they planned anything... they just did.
"ONCE YOU HAVE GOTTEN YOUR KEYS, PLEASE STAND ON MY LEFT!" The teacher screamed
The brunette sighed waiting for the teacher to call names; with every passing name he prayed he was at least with people he knew, no matter who they were.
"DUSTIN, LUCAS AND MIKE" Mr Clark called; as the trio walked to collect their keys. "Cabin 12" Dustin mouthed at a shrugging Will, having no clue what cabin he would be in; obviously it wouldn't be with his friends.
"EL, MAX, PHEOBE AND AMANDA" The teacher called as the number of students dwindled down. With only a few keys and about 18 students left; Will's odds weren't on his side seeing Troy and James from across the grounds, still on the right side of Mr Clark meaning they still had not been put in a cabin yet
"JOEY, MATTHEW, MASON AND NOAH" Mr Clark shouted calling out two more Cabins that were filled, his worst fear was correct; he was with...
"TROY, JAMES, RICHIE AND FINALLY WILL" He pointed at them saying the last names as Will scrunched his face. It was the exact opposite of what he wanted; why must the comic writer forsake him like this?
"This is gonna be a fun weekend... right Byers?" Troy sinisterly smirked bumping shoulders with the brunette. Will didn't know what was worse the fact that he was going to be with Troy and James or the fact that Richie has already began flirting with him.
The small boy sighed looking at his real friends, then toward Mr Clark almost handing him the keys until Will spoke "Can I please change cabins?"
"Why do you want to change cabin...? You chose these groups" The teacher answered with another question tilting his head.
"Umm..." Will thought of something that would make plausible sense "I d-don't like the cabin number- Superstition, you know?" He stammered showing a toothy grin trying to be calm but could already feel Troy and James's eyes on him, while Richie was actually being the tamest in this moment.
"All the cabins are filled... If you could find one with an empty spot or someone willing to trade you cou-"
"He could join ours!" Two voices perked raising their hand
Lucas and...
Mike?
Lucas he understood; they were having a blossoming friendship but Mike couldn't stand his guts a few days ago... why would he want to share a room with him for 4 days? That means spending the entire night and activities together.
Will tilted his head and so did the rest of the students; Mike, Lucas and Dustin were the 'it boys' of the high school. They were always together and never let any other boys join their little circle. Everyone knew that; Hell, even the teachers knew that; that's why they were the only cabin with three people.
People gasped, so did Dustin who was about to tell Will to just secretly join their cabin without anyone knowing.
"Are you sure?" Mr Clark asked confused, even he knew of the previous rivalry of the boys. It was unnatural if they finally made up suddenly but as he thought about it, he remembered Will having a good relationship with Dustin and Lucas recently but also sitting next to Mike on the train. He shrugged allowing the two boys nodding dropping their hands.
"Oh umm okay..." He fumbled through the box taking out the key handing it over to the small boy "... Cabin 12" he said awkwardly smiling
Will was ecstatic, confused but ecstatic; happy he would be in the camp with his friends rather then Troy and James who already planned for the trip to be the prime of making Will's life horrible. They scoffed annoyed how their plan keeps getting foiled.
The small boy skipped over to Dustin standing beside him. The curly haired boy high-fived him seeing Mr Clark clap his hands together
"Put all your bags in your cabins! And we meet for dinner at..." Mr Clark checked his watch pausing for special effect "7:15!"
The students nodded, looking at one another as they scampered to there cabins; Will stood still not knowing what to do; he wanted to say thanks to both Mike and Lucas, but didn't know how; cut out his thoughts by Dustin dragging him away to the cabin rolling his suitcase behind him.
Lucas and Mike walked ahead; The athletic boy leading the group with Mike locating the cabin.
"You both looked so cute while you were sleeping together" Dustin abruptly chuckled pointing at Mike's back
"W-What?" Will panicked; "Sleeping together?"
"On the train" Dustin wiggled his eyebrows "What where you thinking about?"
"N-nothing..." Will panicked not expecting to hear that come out his mouth "Never mention that again!"
"Oh okay..." Dustin smiled covering his mouth to not laugh out loud.
"Why did you say it like that?" The small boy asked
"Say it like what?" The curly haired boy suspiciously giggled
"What did you do?" The brunette's gut feeling persisted.
"I may or may not have taken a few pictures" Dustin smirked wider
"YOU DID WHAT?!?" Will's eyes widened; The curly haired boy began bolting pushing past people to get ahead start; it was allowed as they were given the liberty to protect themselves so the teacher didn't stop them
"CHICKEN SHIT! GET BACK HERE!" Will screamed chasing the curly haired boy around the trees.
The pair ran pass Mike and Lucas who just stared; the athletic boy smiled watching them causing his face to plaster on a bright grin.
The ravenette watched him furrowing his brows but not asking any questions; it was fun to observe the two boys argue as now Dustin hid behind a tree; it wasn't clear what they were fighting over but whatever it was; this fight was comical.
As they made their way into the cabin Lucas jingled the keys placing them in the keyhole to turn the handle to the front door walking in. Choosing the beds they wanted, both boys placed their bags down on the bottom bunks.
"How are you feeling?" Lucas questioned, unzipping his backpack placing Will's bag on the floor
"What?" Mike stopped to ask
"You were sick on the train!" The athletic boy explained
"Oh umm fine... better now I guess" The ravenette answered
"Cool" Lucas questioned, the air around them felt thick but neither knew why.
Suddenly the door slammed open revealing an out of breath Dustin and Will; both exhausted supporting each other slumping into the cabin. The curly haired boy held out his arm "No-" He struggled breathing deep.
"'No'? 'No' What?" Lucas furrowed his brows concerned if something was wrong
"MY BED!" Dustin gasped "I wanted the bottom bunk"
Will rolled his eyes, not caring where he sleeps as long as he was away from James and Troy. He shuddered thinking of how the night would have been if he were unable to find somewhere else to stay.
"Maybe if you weren't galivanting outside like 5-year-olds, you would be able to choose" the athletic boy reprimanded placing both hands on his hip.
"Well, this isn't fair" Dustin crossed his arms marching over to Lucas "I am protesting!"
"I guess none of us are going to be able to sleep tonight then" Mike jokingly rolled his eyes
"Of course!" Dustin turned around dropping his bags to the floor. "This camp is all about fun! It's Will's first trip after all"
Mike and Lucas furrowed their brows. "What?" The ravenette asked confused
"We have a trip every year" The athletic boy added; raising an eyebrow.
"Oh yeah..." Dustin admitted, he forgot the real Will hadn't gone on a trip but the one within the comic had been on multiple; he scratched his head looking over at the small boy who remained tight-lipped not knowing what to say as the two boys demanded an explanation to whatever Dustin was rambling about
"It's my first trip away from Troy and James" The small boy nervously chuckled
"Yeah, he's like a whole new person" Dustin sighed relieved wrapping an arm over the smaller boy, Lucas rolled his eyes, removing the curly haired boy's arm away from Will's frame slightly jealous.
The brunette dropped his bags to the floor. Even though he slept on the way here he was exhausted from the uncomfortable seats. It was a lot better than the trains in California; all the places here were a lot brighter; more colourful and full of life. When the brunette first teleported over, it hurt his eyes from the saturated environment but over time his eyes got used to it.
"I'll take any top bunk! Just point me to one" He said to Mike as the other two bickered over the beds again.
"Yeah I guess you could use this one!" He blankly stated pointing at the bed above his
"Okay!" Will replied climbing up to see how his temporary bed would look like
"Mike!" The small boy poked his head over the wooden frame banister of the top bunk "Could you pass me my blanket please" his eyes peaked from just above the frame
"What?" The ravenette questioned
"My blanket" Will repeated in a jocular manner
"Where is it?" Mike asked looking around the room but seeing no blanket anywhere
"In my backpack..." Will explained "Its right at the top"
The ravenette walked over to Will's bag, opening the lid to remove a light green, fluffy blanket; carefully passing it to the brunette. "Are you going to sleep?" He questioned leaning on the bed frame
"Nope!" Will answered quickly spreading the blanket on the bed before sliding down the ladder for his feet to hit the floor. He whipped his head back speaking "I just wanted to get it up there before I forget later."
The pair looked at Lucas and Dustin now playing rock, paper, scissors, but both refused to budge from scissors stuck on the same match over and over again.
"Are they always like this?" Will questioned
"Basically" He rolled his eyes, facepalming; enjoying the show in front of them "It's fun to watch though"
---- 7:11 PM ----
After convincing the pair to stop fighting they came to an agreement; alternate sleeping days. Lucas would sleep at the bottom for the first two days; then Dustin for the other two.
They walked over to the cabin where the cafeteria was, Will looked up at the sky; without the pollution and the fact he was in the comics the stars really sparkled in the sky, like angels dancing around in the night. It illuminated him, his eyes softening as he stared.
"They are beautiful huh?" Lucas walked up to him from behind
"Excuse me?" The brunette tilted his head to face the taller boy
"The stars... They are beautiful" Lucas repeated attempting to make conversation
"Yeah, they are" Will turned his attention to Lucas "Umm thank you... for earlier!"
"What for?" The athletic boy asked
"For letting me stay here in the cabin... You really helped me out!" Will chirped
"Well, I'm glad I was of service" Lucas bowed like a knight
"It would have been a horrible trip if I was with Troy and James" The smaller boy rolled his eyes
"Aren't they your friends?" Lucas asked slowing his pace to match the brunette
"Not anymore! It's... a long story" Will mumbled unable to say anything that would be coherent, looking down at his body Will noticed the camera hanging around the athletic boy's neck. "So have you taken any pictures of the camp so far?" He questioned unable to keep his mind directed toward one thing.
"I've actually took many on the ride here" The athletic boy chirped
"Oh... Was this when I was asleep?" Will questioned not remembering any pictures being taken while he was awake.
"Umm... Yeah" Lucas said sadly wishing he could be that comfortable around the smaller boy as Mike seemed to be in that moment on the train.
"Well, I hope to see them all!" The brunette grinned facing toward the athletic boy; lifting his spirit
"For you I'll try my best!" Lucas excitedly chirped now more excited than ever to take pictures to show off to the smaller boy.
"So what exactly are you gonna take pictures of?" Will asked as they walked in front leading the group to the cafeteria.
"I am planning to take a picture of everyone and everything!" Lucas declared; skipping up and down wanting as many pictures as possible to remember his time here with Will.
"That sounds fun!" Will smiled looking up at the night once again counting the stars that littered the sky, but Lucas had his eyes on something else; the small brunette beside him; his gaze softened smiling bright.
