1- Bullies
WILL POV-
---- California ----
---- Monday 8:16 AM ----
"Hey Byers!" Josh shouted, alerting him to turn his attention. Not even taking a step inside and he was already being targeted, rolling his eyes he walked away turning the volume of his headphones even higher.
A hand reached over to his shoulder, roughly shoving him to the ground. The worst part about school was the students. Having no friends basically ensured that he was a victim. It seemed as if no one wanted to be his friends at this point in year, in their senior year of high school, students became hesitant to meet new people as they would only move away for college in a few months.
"Listen to me when I'm talking to you" A boy with thick eyebrows stood over him; digging his feet into Will's leg, he didn't retaliate honestly used to it at this point. The boy scoffed chortling out loud before running away. No one cared if Will was being bullied even after reporting it to the teachers on multiple occasions, but with no proof and even less credibility, the teachers ignored him; assuming he was just a boy whose friends went too far with a joke
He shuffled up from the floor dusting the dirt off his clothes while picking up his headphones from the ground stomping over to his first lesson of the day: English Literature. He liked the lesson thinking the teacher was cool; she was tall with red hair and thick rimmed glasses
"Mr Byers! You can't use my classroom as a hiding spot" She sarcastically casted her eyes to the door
"Sorry Miss Holland, but you know how those boys are. Barbarians I tell you!" Will nervously explained tripping on his way into the class. He checked his watch seeing he was 15 minutes early
"Whatever, at least you're quiet" She rolled her eyes turning her attention back to the papers she was marking. Will rested his head just hoping for the day to be over wanting to go home.
---- 12: 12 PM ----
Will slumped over to the lunchroom; he sat in the far corner away from everyone watching the other students engage in chatter. Sitting alone, he took out his sandwich taking a bite; reading a comic with the other hand. Scrolling through his phone as his eyes gloss over the page, analysing the pictures that passed waiting for the chapter to be released all day. The author uploaded a new instalment every Monday, so naturally the small boy read it at the earliest point he could:
The tall ravenette stood in the door frame, leaning on it. He licked his lips; knowing exactly what he wanted. He cheekily smiled walking over to the petite girl; a bouquet in hand. He uttered no words stepping closer.
He held the bouquet out toward the girl; Her hair reached her shoulders, her doe eyes glowing in the lights of the bright sun. He warmly smiled at her, running a hand through his raven locks. Nervously handing the flowers over, his hands trembling
"Wha-" El mumbled barely above a whisper
"I- l Got this for you... I kinda wanted to know if you'd like to... date me?" The boy scratched the back of his neck stretching his words
"M-Mike- I" She stuttered looking down at the bouquet, quickly averting her gaze up to his face
"El? So, what do you say?" The ravenette fidgeted anticipating the answer
"Hmm!" She took a deep breath "I say we-"
Unexpectedly, his phone was yanked from his hands; unable to read the answer, the moment he had been waiting for the past year. Wanting to know what answer the heroine would give to the male lead. He just wanted a normal day at school, but he obviously couldn't have that, how could he be so foolish? He wished he could be more like El from the comic; she was strong, smart and steadfast and maybe that way he could even find his own Mike. He chuckled, cut away by an agonising voice shouting
"What are you reading Byers?" Josh stole the phone holding it away scrunching his face
"G-give that back" Will attempted slightly rising from his seat, raising an arm to grab his phone
"Uh! Uh! Uh! Don't be so impatient Will!" Josh's friend snickered placing a hand on Will's shoulder forcing him to sit back in his seat "We're friends remember?" He condescendingly mocked knowing the teachers would do jack-shit about this.
"EWW! You read this gay shit?" Josh blurted, scrolling through the story. He barely skimmed the first scene but seeing the bright colours and fancy writing assumed it was for girls; of course, he wouldn't expect less from the one-note Josh. Groups from other tables turned their heads doing nothing to help
"Why don't you just put a dress on? We know you like it up the ass, it gives easy access!" Josh burst out laughing; hearing the roar of laughter from the other students. Will had enough swatting the phone out of the boy's hand leading it to fall on the floor, hearing a crack as it hit the ground. The boy grew angry having to deal with this every day; he stood up from his seat pushing Josh's friend out the way walking over to his phone. He was kicked down by a random bystander, another boy who hated him just for who he was.
Quickly grabbing his phone off the ground, he stood up hearing whispers around him
"Isn't that, that queer kid?"
"He's such a pain"
"I heard his dad left him... no wonder he turned out like that"
"I bet his parents are embarrassed"
Will covered his ears running out the cafeteria, his blurred eyes seemed as though he couldn't see; unable to say anything in retaliation, he stumbled feeling his ankle swerve into an unnatural position.
"Will!" He heard a voice behind him, an almost unrecognisable voice. Then he heard it in front of him; then all around him feeling the room spin. He closed his eyes
When he collected his thoughts; the room felt as though it stopped spinning. Taking a deep breath, he softly opened his eyes, the bright light obscured his vision. A man held his wrist; his eyes sharp and hair raven. He was breath-taking as if someone drawn as a character come to life. The boy pushed Will against the wall
"Stop messing with El!" He sternly threatened punching the wall "Or next time that'll be you"
Will flinched from the sudden movement, he didn't even know who this man was.
Looking around he noticed the surroundings different, like a place out of a movie: clean, sophisticated, yet a charm that invites people toward it, an effortless chic look.
He scanned the ravenette's clothes... Was he wearing a school uniform? Reading the name tag it read
'Michael Wheeler - Hawkins Indiana Preparatory School'
