Chapter 3

~Darkstalker~

"No one important."

He smirked. His plans were finally going smoothly. Not only does Darkstalker now have someone to make Winter fall into misery, Qibli had lost half of his old memories as he wanted.2

It was just another slight spell he had put on later after Qibli had started babbling non-stop about his old life, and what he was going to do to villains who had harmed Thorn. He wanted Qibli as his friend. He wanted Qibli to be only loyal to him. Not anyone else. The only dragon he can worship was Darkstalker.

In the end, he would anyways so he wasn't doing anything particularly evil. Darkstalker could see it in the future. It'll just be less . . . bothering if he were to just lose his memories. And it'll work out anyways. By the time Qibli loses all his past memories, he'll already know Moon and the rest of the Jade Winglet.

Darkstalker will make sure of it. . . after all, everything is as simple as pieces in a puzzle. In the end, with some magic, it'll fit together perfectly.

"Anyways, Master Darkstalker. I have thought of a few ways that may be possible, to bring Clearsight back. The first one is . . . ." Darkstalker blocked Qibli's voice and his thoughts. He would tell him to repeat it later.

Right now, he wanted to daydream about Winter's face as he is torn apart by Moon's confrontation.

~Winter~

He hated his life. He hated how his parents were never proud of him. He hated that they had the wall. And he hated that he had ever accepted Queen Glacier's request to kill a NightWing. In all honesty, he hated himself.

If he had just accepted the fact that Hailstorm was gone, would everything turn out okay? If he had declined Queen Glacier's offer to gain his dignity and rank back? What would happen? If he had just accepted that he was a nobody, and stopped trying to become heroes, what would happen then?

Winter sat miserably in his assigned dungeon. He had only been in there for a day, after Darkstalker appeared out of nowhere in the Ice Kingdom, and flew him to the NightWing Kingdom Dungeons. Although, it felt as if he was going to be here for all eternity. He didn't mind though. After all, Winter thought he deserved to be in prison. He had planned to hurt Moonwatcher! He had grown very fond of the NightWing for some weird reason. He wasn't sure but . . .

I think I accepted her as a friend. He thought, and then quickly punched himself in the face. Stop it, Winter. She's nothing to you. She's nothing to us.

Suddenly, the soft sound of someone's talon steps echoed through the foul-looking hallway. A young and beautiful NightWing he had dreamed so many times of, came flying down the hallways, her tail swishing around- something she does when she was nervous- and she wore a mix of angry, sad, and pitiful expressions.

Moonwatcher.

Winter had seen her so many times in his hallucinations, he wouldn't even believe for a second that she was real. He punched himself in the face again, but as he looked up, the dragonet still stood in front of him. "Three moons. Those hallucinations are getting better at tricking me." He muttered, staring straight at Moon.

"Winter, I'm not a hallucination!" She protested, scrunching up her snout at him.

"I'm sure you're real," He snapped back with sarcasm. "After all, a random classmate who I dreamed of every single day, who is supposedly in the middle of a war, just suddenly appeared in front of me. Yep, I'm sure it's not a hallucination or anything. That would just be dumb."

The NightWing stared pitifully at Winter, realizing he was probably on the verge of losing it. She hesitated for a few moments before leaning towards the bars, still keeping her distance of course, and then viciously flicked his forehead, hardly. "Now, do you believe me?" she asked with a small growl in her voice.

It took Winter a total of five minutes to absorb what Moonwatcher had just said to his brain. Once he realized it, he flinched back almost a meter. "What's happening?! Darkstalker, I know it's you playing tricks on me again! I'm not going to fall for your tricks again. S-so stop!" He screamed, talons shaking with surprise.

Moonwatcher sighed and rubbed her temples. "Whatever. I don't care if you do not believe me. I just want to know one thing. Why, Winter? Why did you betray me time after time? We could have become-" She suddenly paused for a few seconds and seemed to rethink her words. "We could have become great friends."

Winter stared at Moon for a few seconds, screaming at himself to stop, but icy tears fell down anyways. "I'm sorry . . ." He whispered in a croaky voice, hoarse from lack of water. What happened to your 'I'll be prepared if Darkstalker ever tries to tease me again' Winter? You'll always be a coward. He thought helplessly.

"It hurts. It hurts so much. Everything reminds me of you, Moon. Every time I see a NightWing guard cross by, they remind me of you. Every time I face the shadows, I see you, and your disappointed face. Every single moment I think of you. I can't take this anymore . . . I'm so, so tired of feeling guilt, every single day. First, it was Hailstorm, now it's you. I can't take this anymore... I don't want to bare with the guilt anymore."

She glared at Winter with sudden ferocity, all signs of weakness erased from her face, only sternness remained. "What happened to your royal majesty?" she demanded, pointing a claw at him. "What happened to the Winter I know? The one who is always bragging about what an important dragon you are? What happened to your haughty sniff? What happened to the true Winter? . . . What happened to the dragon I love?"

Moonwatcher's expression never shifted, even after her speech, leaving Winter's gaping mouth wide open. She only showed determination and bravery. "Send a guard for me when you have your confident mind back. This is not the Winter I want to get answers out of. Talk to me when you have your senses back." she whispered, her voice was silky and soft, yet at the same time, it blazed with ferocity. "I'll be waiting for you." And then she disappeared, smoothly gliding down the halls.

This. This is why I love her... He thought and suddenly paused. What had he just thought of?! He was a disgrace to the IceWings! Although . . . it wasn't as if he wasn't in the beginning. Wait- that was it! Why was he even worried about being a disgrace when he already is one?! Three moons, who cared if the IceWings hated him? Well, he did of course, but still! Why did he? After all, he only satisfied their demands because of the fact that he would be shamed in the Ice Kingdom, and the fact that the guilt was eating him alive. But now that he was in Darkstalker's dungeons, why did he still care?

Winter smiled for the first time in months. He had finally solved the mystery that always seemed to bug him. From the start, it wasn't his fault. Well, it was his fault for ever agreeing on killing anyone, but it was also the IceWings' fault for ever judging him. If they had ever just embraced him, and others, he would have never needed to feel guilty from the start. It was all the IceWings fault for ever shaming him. Not his.

I'll be waiting for you . . . Moon's words echoed in his mind.

Winter waited for a while until he saw the familiar head of a NightWing pop out. "Nightshade!" He yelled loudly, startling the NightWing guard who had been more friendly to him than others.

The NightWing whirled his head around, until he made sure no other guards were watching him. "What is it, IceWing? I don't have time to sneak in a second meal for you today. Also I don't care if you threaten to slice my face off again. This time I won't be a wimp!" He whisper-shouted, crossing his arms with determination.

"What? That's not what I need you to do. Do you remember that pretty NightWing with the shiny teardrop scales?"

"Well, yeah. Wait, are you making me ask her to be your girlfriend? No, can do Ice dragon. She's way out of your league anyways."

"WHAT!? She is not! GAH, you're missing the point here, Nightshade. I want you to deliver a message to her. Tell her I'm ready. And if she seems skeptical, just tell her that Winter is a genius after all."

"Uh, before I go, you do know you're not a genius, right? Just wanna make sure, y'know? Also, since when did I become a messenger, Mr. Prisoner."

Winter groaned with frustration, and had to threaten to throw a thick and heavy looking bone, before Nightshade finally hurried away from Winter's cell to get Moonwatcher the message.

Nightshade returned with Moon trailing behind him. Her face was slightly tinted pink, as if she had just realized what she had said earlier and had been embarrased for a very long time. "Hi, Winter..." She whispered shyly, all signs of her confidence were gone.

"Hey, Moon." He responded, staring at her awkwardly. Now that they were talking, they finally realized what a weird conversation they were having. After all, Winter had basically been sent to kill Moon, and yet, here they were smiling at each other awkwardly, as if they could read each other's thoughts- oh wait, Moon could read his thoughts!

So Winter said everything in his mind. About how he thought over, and he even made a few puns Qibli would be proud of. He didn't say sorry once to Moon's approval. She did not want Winter to say sorry. It was simply a piece of word. He had already shown he was sorry by using actions, not words. "I forgive you," Moon finally said, making Winter's smile grow bigger.

"Thank you . . ." He said. "That's all I need . . . your approval."

(A/N: Don't- don't ask me about this chapter please. I don't know how it turned so dark to so I don't know- light??? GAH, but please, note that I did not intend on making fun of suicidal thoughts. This is a very serious topic and should be never made fun of.)
