Near The End

70 years old

"Dad, you need to move back to Columbus," Emma spoke, combing through Tyler's grey, sparse hair.

"Don't have the money," Tyler grumbled, glancing up at his now 35-year-old daughter.

"Dad-"

"Just drop it," he sighed.

"I know it's your's and dad's wish to live in a nursing home in Colombus..." she started, but was cut off again.

"It's not going to happen. I'm fine with that."

"Dad, Brayden and I have already paid for it."

"What?" Tyler's deeply-indented forehead drew in a frown.

"It's already payed for. You and Dad are free to move in whenever."

"You did not..."

"Yes we did."

"Emma, I love you. You and your brother are amazing."

"Yeah, and I think we're going to move too, so we can be close to visit."

"But what about Danny?"

Danny was Tyler and Josh's newborn grandson. Emma had given birth to him only a few weeks prior.

"It's fine, Dad. I swear. Tim and I have no problem moving Danny to Columbus."

Tim was Emma's husband. They've been married for only a few years now. Brayden, on the other hand, had no wife or kids. Instead, he worked most of the day at some business where he was CEO.

"Well what about Brayden? He can't give up his job for us."

"There's another company in Columbus, only a few minutes away from where he'd be staying. Stop worrying, Dad. It's all under control. We've had it planned for a while."

"So that's it, then?"

"What do you mean?"

"We're going home."

Emma smiled, although it wasn't considered home to her. She was leaving her home, but she wanted to do this for her parents. "We're going home."

"Josh!" Tyler suddenly called out, causing his daughter to flinch.

"He probably can't hear you. I'll go get him."

Emma briskly walked away to retrieve her other Dad. After a few minutes, they entered the room, Josh depending on his cane to hold him up.

"Josh, we're going home."

"Home?" Josh smiled, dentures peaking through his cracked lips.

"Uh huh, Brayden and Emma payed for it all already. They're going to move into town too, to be closer to us."

"But-"

"Don't worry, they've got it covered," Tyler interrupted.

Josh shuffled his way next to Tyler, sitting down in the chair next to him. His soft hand reached over, lacing his finger's with Tyler's. They smiled at each other, so thankful for the family they raised together.

"I'm excited," Josh said.

"I'm not."

"Why not?"

"We're near the end. I don't want to die, Josh. I'm still so scared."

"Don't be scared, T. Everything will be alright, I promise you. Don't live in the future."

"I can't help it. I wish I could live with you forever."

"You will. I'll be with you in Heaven, sweetie. Remember that talk we had a long time ago?"

"No, I don't even remember what I had for breakfast."

Josh laughed, wrinkles prominent around his eyes. Tyler gave a nervous smile, gently clutching onto his husband's hand.

"Me neither."

"When do you guys want to go?" Emma cut in, interrupting her father's laughter.

"Whenever we get around to packing."

"I can do it now, if you want."

"Sure, honey. Thanks a bunch. We'll be sitting in the same place when you're finished," Josh joked, finally getting Tyler to laugh.

"Ain't that the truth!"

After Emma went to pack their suitcases, Tyler grew serious again.

"You promise you won't let mean nurses hurt me?"

"Of course, T. You know I wouldn't."

"What if they don't let us see each other?"

"Why would that do that?"

"I don't know. What if we can't sleep together!?"

"I'm sure everything will work out. They wouldn't send us somewhere they wouldn't approve of."

"Okay, maybe you're right."

"I'm always right," Josh teased, leaning over to peck Tyler's cheek.

"Whatever. I hope you're right about us being together forever."

"I am."

"Mhm," Tyler rolled his eyes.

"I am! You just wait and see."
