Keep Me Warm Inside Our Bed
17 years old
Tyler pulled his heavy coat around his small frame, teeth shuttering against each other. His mitten-covered fingers held firmly on his coat in a desperate attempt to warm himself up.
Tyler celebrated his seventeenth birthday yesterday, and Josh ended up staying the night. The two were currently playing outside in the December snow, building a snowman.
Josh was adding the finishing touches while Tyler watched, bodies shivering. Warm breath met cold air with a white mist. Josh looked from the finished snowman over to Tyler, whose cheeks and nose were red from the stinging cold.
"All done," Josh announced.
Tyler grinned at the finished product, teeth clattering.
"We did a good job," Tyler spoke, white steam filling the air as he spoke.
"Cold?" Josh asked, although the answer was obvious.
Tyler nodded. Josh made his way over, snow crunching under his boots. He engulfed Tyler in a hug, making the boy sigh at Josh's warmth.
"Can we go inside?"
"Yeah, do you have any hot chocolate?"
Tyler nodded as he broke away from the hug. The two walked inside together, discarding of their wet boots and mittens. Tyler made both of them hot chocolate and they carried the cups up to Tyler's room.
The hot liquid slipped down Tyler's throat, warmth instantly spreading throughout his body. Josh sat on the bed next to him, one arm snaked around the boy's small waist.
"You're so tiny," Josh teased, sipping his hot chocolate.
"I am not," Tyler argued. "I'm 5'4. You're just freakishly tall."
"Am not," Josh argued back. "6 foot is not freakishly tall."
"It is when you're only 5'4," The brunette pointed out.
Josh let out a chuckle, setting his cup down on the bedside table. Tyler refused to lay down until he finished the hot drink. He argued that it was going to get cold and then he wouldn't want it anymore.
Josh patiently waited while the younger boy finished his drink. Tyler placed the now-empty cup next to Josh's before sliding under the comforter next to him. Josh held Tyler close, letting the boy nuzzle his face into Josh's side.
"How're you always so warm?" Tyler asked in disbelief.
"I don't know," Josh lifted his shoulders in a shrug. "I have to stay warm to keep you warm."
Tyler felt his cheeks grow hot. "So you're saying the only reason you're so warm all the time is because the universe somehow just knows I'm always cold?"
"Exactly."
"So what you're pretty much saying is that we're destined to be together?"
"Exactly," Josh repeated. "We're soulmates. We were meant to be together since we were little five year olds."
Tyler smiled at the memory. He blew out a happy sigh, holding the boy he loved so dearly tightly. Josh reciprocated, strong arms holding the short boy against him tightly.
The heavy blankets combined with Josh's body were practically making Tyler sweat, Josh too. Their clothes were beginning to stick to their skin.
Tyler sat up and pulled his shirt over his head. Josh gave him a confused look.
"I'm sweating," Tyler giggled, realizing how strange it sounded since the weather outside was below freezing.
"Me too." Josh sat up and removed his shirt, tossing it off the to side along with Tyler's.
They laid back down, skin now sticking to skin. The familiar lightness in the air settled around them as they held each other.
"I'm crazy in love with you," Josh blurted out randomly, causing Tyler's cheeks to turn a beautiful shade of pink.
"I know," Tyler spoke softly, not wanting to disturb the lightness that had settled around them.
"Have I ever told you that I'm glad you're mine?"
"Every day," Tyler spoke, smiling into his lover's chest.
