Dont Be Scared

23 years old

Tyler quivered under the heavy blankets, small whimpers drowned out by booming thunder. He flinched as lightning struck, flooding the room with brief light before thunder rang out again. His heart pounded against his ribcage, body trembling in terror.

Hot tears fell from his eyes as he debated on whether or not to wake Josh up. Thunder rumbled again, causing him to jump. Josh's eyes slowly opened, confused as to why Tyler kept moving around.

"What's wrong, T?"

Tyler let out a gasp while the sky let out a long, ominous roar. He threw his arms around Josh, silently begging the man to hold him. Josh got the hint and pulled Tyler tightly against his chest.

"You're scared of thunder storms?" Josh asked.

Tyler nodded, his brown hair tickling Josh's bare chest. He sniffled his tears away, slightly relaxing into the older.

Tyler shut his eyes as lightning flashed again, awaiting the inevitable thunder that soon followed.

"I'm scared," He whined, bringing the blankets up to cover both of them completely.

"I got you, T. Why're you scared?"

"I-I don't know I've always just been afraid of storms..."

"Well it's alright, I'm here. Don't be scared," Josh soothed, feathering kisses on Tyler's head.

"Do you t-think I'm a baby n-now?" Tyler hiccuped, looking up at Josh through his thick lashes.

Josh shook his head. "Of course not. We're all scared of silly things sometimes. You can't really control fear."

"You're too smart," Tyler mumbled, resting his head over Josh's heart.

"Not really," Josh said through a yawn.

"You're tired... I woke you up... I'm sorry, go back to bed."

"No, its fine," Josh assured, shaking his head. "I'll go back to sleep when you do."

"I'm too scared."

"Don't be scared, baby. I'll still be here in the morning. The storm won't hurt us."

"I know..." Tyler sighed, feeling stupid for having such an irrational fear.

"Want me to turn on some music?"

"I'll do it," Tyler said, climbing away from Josh.

He grabbed his phone and turned on the bluetooth speaker that sat next to their bed. He put his playlist on shuffle, settling back down against Josh. The music slightly helped drown out the thunder.

"Better?" Josh asked.

"A little."

"Close your eyes and try to sleep."

Tyler let his eyes fall shut, snuggling closer into the older. Josh rubbed his back until his breathing became shallow. His lips pulled up in a smile. He leaned down to kiss Tyler's hair. Josh's head fell back against his pillow and he closed his eyes.

The storm didn't wake Tyler up for the rest of the night.
