8: Thanatos' Cave
"Don't cry, Mel. Shh, shh." Macaria comforted her little sister as she escorted her out.
"Take me to Mommy, Mac." She held her big sister's hands as she sniffled.
"No, Mel." She shook her head as she whispered. "We will go on our own time. He won't bully us or Mother. I will do everything in my power to make sure that he misses that birth now."
"Why can't we go see her?" She sniffled.
"We can, we can. But I don't want you to tell Mother that he followed he demands. She might actually go see him then. And if she sees him, I bet he won't let her leave again. Does that make sense?" Macaria stroked her baby sister's face. She had long been in this role as the steady rock. Comforting her sister when she was scared or confused; ensuring that nothing bad would happen to her. However, it was rare that she did it alone.
"I want to see Mommy." Melinoe sniffled once again. Desperately close to you, your youngest daughter wanted nothing more than to curl up in your lap and recount the terror that had been your husband.
Macaria sighed. Once Melinoe got like this, it was hard to get her out of it. Combing her long, beautiful, dark hair with her fingers, Macaria looked into her sister's deep, dark eyes.
"Fine. But we're going to walk. And we're going to see Thanatos first." She asserted as she stood up and took Melinoe's hand.
Carefully, she lead her down an intricate pathway to the demon known as Thanatos. He was quite human-like but shared a lot of features with a bull; not an uncommon creature to find in the Underworld.
"Macaria. How are you?" He asked obtusely. He was always abrupt, but it was something that Macaria valued.
"Simply awful, Thanatos." She flew into his arms, leaving her sister to stand awkwardly in the cave entrance. "You wouldn't believe what my father has done this time."
"I probably will, Macaria. He is the ruler of the Underworld. I do not understand why you are left surprised by many of his actions." He shook his head as he held the small quarter-human closely, inhaling her intoxicating scent. "Hello, Melinoe."
"Hi, Thanatos." Melinoe rang out sadly. "How are you?"
"I am happy to see your sister. Have you found a mate to make you as happy as she makes me?" He inquired bluntly.
"No..." She frowned. This was why she didn't like to see Thanatos. He was much to straight-forward for her liking; always asking her questions that she did not want to answer. Or even that she couldn't answer. How was she supposed to find a husband when almost all the demons just got slaughtered in the human realm? What kind of question was that?
A small pout formed on her face as Macaria took her precious time explaining the sequence of events to Thanatos. Melinoe would have certainly left if she hadn't thought that she would get lost in her search for her mother. But after being dragged to Thanatos' cave, she was officially stuck her and stuck waiting for her sister.
