2: Comforting The Maternal Side
"Congratulations on the baby, Mommy!" Melinoe ran and hugged you. "I see why you want to be away from Daddy right now. He's being so peculiar, it's uncomfortable."
"Thank you, Meli, I'm glad to see that you're happy about it." You nodded as you sat down to soak your swelling feet in the river. You were going to follow it and see where it went. Satan would never expect it, nor would it lead to you getting too lost, as you could simply walk back the way you came, against the current.
"Will you tell us what went on up there?" Macaria sat down next to you and soaked her own feet as well, laying her head on your shoulder.
"Your father decided to wage a war again God, lost despicably, got everyone killed who he didn't personally slaughter and then almost didn't save our lives." You shook your head. "But what really upset me is that he finally admitted-- accidently as he was boasting, mind you!-- that it was no accident that I ended up down here. He planned it. He had Persephone inhabit my body when I was still human, that way I would be forced to stay with him down here. And when I first arrived, he kept me distracted until it had been years upon years in the human realm and everyone I knew and loved had died."
"Mother... he is Satan, you know. No one expects him to be good..." Macaria looked at you worried.
"Easy for you to say now! Especially since when I let you go up, Christianity, Islam and Judaism were abundant. When I was human, it was multiple gods, none of which were wholly good or evil. So here I was thinking that maybe Hades was sincere and misunderstood. But I was wrong. He embodies the name Satan fully and truly. And he wants this baby." You explained as Melinoe brushed your hair with her fingers.
"Why can't he have it? The other father is dead, so why not let Daddy raise it? Clearly he liked that human thing too." Melinoe asked.
"I don't want him to. It's my baby and my baby alone. It's not Akira's, because he chose death over us. And it's just simply not Satan's. First, because I am furious with him and second, because this baby has nothing to do with him. This wouldn't have even been a problem if he hadn't insisted on pretending to be siblings in the human realm!" You kicked your feet in the water, angrily.
"Will we be able to see the baby?" Macaria asked. "I love babies."
"I know you do, Macki. You were a fabulous big sister before and you will be a fabulous big sister again. But I will be fine to simply stay away from your father. If you want to find me, I'll be down the River Styx. I want to see where it will lead to. Haven't you ever been curious?" You looked at them. Only a quarter human, yet they seemed so normal. Like devilmen, but cuter. Or maybe that was just your bias as a mother.
