13: Caught

"Dad!"

"Shh, maybe if you don't respond, he won't find us." You whispered.

"Dad! Oh, there you are. Are you busy with mom? I'm hungry. I want fish."

Satan rolled off of the top of you immediately and sat up to look at a twelve year old Zagreus.

"Can you wait, love?" He turned and looked at you. "Zagreus is hungry. He's growing you know."

"Don't you remember his father? ALWAYS hungry! He could have waited!" You groaned and then whispered in his ear. "Did you not give the orders for everyone to procreate?"

Satan hesitated briefly, considering how correct you were. But then, Zagreus cleared his throat and tapped his foot.

"Dad," He repeated, knowing how weak Satan was for that name. "I'm STARVING!"

Shaking his head, Satan got up and kissed your head, leaving you huffing.

"I'll be right back, dear!" He reassured you and he lead his son to the River Styx for food.

"I cannot believe he just blew me off!" You rolled around in the bed of feathers angrily. "That brat. He calls him Hades to his sisters and to me most of the time, but as soon as he needs something, it's 'dad' this and 'dad' that! He is just as manipulative as Satan himself! Ugh!!"

As you stood up, you straightened your dress and marched out of the room. There was no sense in waiting around; Zagreus could eat for hours.

"Cerberus." You called out. "Cerberus!"

Within a few minutes, he was at your feet.

"Good. I'm bored. Let us venture to the pear orchard and collect some of those fruits for the next meal. I'm tired of pomegranates. And we will not let Zagreus eat any!" You pouted. "He can eat all the fish in the river for all I care."

You laughed at this; no need to stay angry at your son for interrupting your first intimate time with Satan since before the whole incident with the humans. He didn't know. But you did take this time to reflect on how you had gotten there in the first place.

"I should have asked you to pluck out your feathers sooner. I have never had such a good sleep until last night." You recounted to Satan as you stretched your arms above your head. You hadn't allowed him to sleep in the bed with you, but he had stayed in the room. "Your feathers are indeed something I missed."

"You can always touch them. Never have I banned you from them." He flung a wing out to you.

"I know this." You chuckled. "It's not the touching that I mind. I would touch them all day, if your reaction wasn't so severe."

"Severe? I would never get upset." He raised an eyebrow at you.

"Not upset. You know what I mean." You laughed again at this. Was he just playing dumb, or did he truly not remember what it felt like to have his wings touched?

"No, I'm afraid I do not. I have no recollection. The only thing I know of is my own memory of plucking my feathers. And that was unpleasant." He shivered at the painful memory.

"Fine. Just for a moment, I will touch them. But don't say I didn't warn you." And with that, you ran your fingers through his silky wing.
