Memory
Cerelias POV:
A rocket. Is this possible? I had to look twice to make sure that I wasn't going insane. No matter how many times I looked at it, it didn't disappear. My heart started beating faster and it felt like the whole room was getting smaller. It was getting hotter with every second that passed by.
I looked at the back of my hand. The same small rocket.
"What the fuck is going on?" was the only question in my mind. Could this be the person I think it is? If this is true and my mind isn't playing tricks on me, then this would mean it's him. Slowly, I started walking backward, leaning onto the big bookshelf. My hand started shaking when he finally looked at me. His brows furrowed as he came closer. Then I noticed it in his eyes. He saw my tattoo.
"Milo?" I could feel a tear rolling down my cheek as he hugged me tightly. We both collapsed to the floor. I leaned my head on his shoulder, looking at the wall in front of us. His chest started moving slower and his breathing got heavier. This was the moment fourteen-year-old me looked forward to, every night she went to sleep and every morning she woke up. I would wonder how he's doing and if he still thinks about me as much as I do about him. Sometimes he would even appear in my dreams telling me stories and jokes. My heart missed him so much, yet my brain couldn't even remember what he looked like. But there was this one thing that I didn't forget and that I'll never forget. Our favorite song. To be fair it was his favorite song at first, but as soon as he told me about it, it also turned into mine. Every time we were sad, happy, lonely, anxious, or simply just bored we would listen to "Drag me down" by One Direction. Probably the most basic song choice, but who cares. We loved it so much, that we decided to get matching tattoos because of it. Maybe that wasn't the best idea, but there was not a single time where I wanted to erase it. My cheeks were all wet from the tears.
"I can't believe you're here. And I can't believe you didn't say anything." I looked at him with the brightest smile on my face, that I had in a long time.
"I'm sorry, I thought that it would be better for you if I didn't say anything. The last time we've seen each other was a long time ago and I did everything I could to delete the old version of myself." He just shrugged with a sad smile. There were so many things I wanted to say to him, yet I couldn't think of anything. All this time, I was trying to convince myself that we'll never meet again. But I guess the universe had other plans.
"Do you remember, when we explored every single forest that we could think of?" This was the only thing I got myself to ask. And of course, it was one of my core memories growing up. One day I was watching the news with my dad and they were talking about a woman that visited every single place I could think of. So I grabbed my notebook and went up to Milo telling him about her. He was as amazed as I was at that time. We decided to start with the nearest forest. Of course, we took snacks, water, and other stuff with us. When we reached it was late afternoon and the sun was setting. Since we were on a big hill we could look over the city. It was so beautiful, that we even took some photos. My mum always said that sunsets were something special. She said that once an artist dies, God lets him paint one last painting on the sky. I've adored the sky ever since. And I will adore it till the day I die.
Milo and I had the habit to carve our initials in one tree every time we visited a forest. I have no idea if the trees and our initials are still there but I don't care either, because it's the memory that counts.
"Of course, I remember it! I think about it to this day! But the real question is do you remember the time around Halloween when we were obsessed with Horror stuff and killers?" He let out a loud chuckle as he said that last sentence.
"Woah, stop! Don't change the story. YOU were obsessed with it and then you talked about it so much that I eventually got obsessed with it too." I pointed my finger at him, talking in an accusing tone. However, I couldn't help but laugh as I thought about it. That was probably the most embarrassing time of our lives. We couldn't even sleep at night, because we thought that Michael Myers would come into our room at point 3 am.
"Okay, I get it, it was my fault! But you were the one scaring me every time we went out because you swore that black creatures were following us around." He gestured towards one of the drawings. My jaw dropped.
"You did not draw those creatures!" I playfully pushed hit his arm as I stood up to take a closer look at the picture. He did draw them and they looked as scary as I imagined them. Two people are in a dark forest and in front of them is a tall, faceless, black creature with horns and red eyes. The forest wasn't a normal forest, everywhere were illusions of black and burned down trees. You could even see the two people struggling against the wind. It wasn't hard to figure out that those two people were him and I. The connection between me and the picture felt so strong. A shiver went across my whole body. How did I not notice this picture? I was too shocked to speak so I just smiled at him. And then it came to my mind. In ten days is Halloween.
"Milo, shit! I forgot about it. In ten days is our favorite day of the year!" My hand flew to my mouth as I was trying to figure out, what we could do.
"Wait, oh my God! How did I forget that? I was so busy with my paintings and the bar that I buried it somewhere in the back of my mind. We need to meet up again and do something together. There is a fair a few miles away." He took out a paper to write down his number.
"Are you sure? That means we would have to break a promise." I took the paper and pen out of his hands, replacing it with an old flip – phone. "This is the only way I'm willing to communicate with you. Otherwise, I'm out, because I don't want to take any risks. This phone has only my number and only I can add more numbers."
"Fine, this will work too, I guess." He inspected the phone, twirling it around in his hand while I took out my real phone. It was already 8 am and I had a lot of work to do so I started walking towards the exit. I looked back one more time. "Okay, I have to go now. I'm sorry, but I have a lot of work to get done."
"All right, I'll call you. You know where to find me!" He waved at me before I got out. I could feel the cold air everywhere. The sun was nowhere to be found, only gray clouds. Which meant that there will be a storm soon. I had to be fast. But the thought of getting struck by a lightning sounded better than going back to that mansion.
