Chapter 9

"Hey Jan?" Virgil asked, playing with his hands.

"What's wrong, Virge?" Janus asked, sitting down. Virgil took a deep breath before shaking his head.

"It's nothing."

"Lies!" Janus declared, pointing at Virgil and making him laugh slightly. "But seriously, what's up?" Virgil shrugged.

"I don't... like Roman and Remus."

"I think you've made that pretty clear, Virge."

"But you like Remus, don't you?" By the way Virgil was looking at him, Janus could tell that he meant in a more-than-friend way. Janus shrugged and looked down, his long hair hiding his face.

"I mean... I don't know him that well. But, yeah, I guess. Why do you care?"

"Because I'm worried about you." Virgil scratched at his nail, the last of his purple nail polish flaking off. "He's not good, Jan. Why would they come all this way? Just to get off the Isle? They belong there, Jan."

"Their mum belongs there." Janus rebuked. "There's no evidence that they do."

Virgil sighed and looked away from Janus. "At the back of the school, the initials R and Q were found graffitied on the wall in green. And then there's Roman getting into fights on the first day of school and making people late for class. And Remus is skipping classes. They're not going to be able to stay here, Jan. So what was the point of them even coming? They're deliberately destroying their chance of living here."

Janus stood up suddenly. "Where are you going?"

"To go help Remus and Roman adjust to life in Auridon. They're not going back to the Isle, Virge, I'll make sure of it."

"Remus!"

Remus looked down and grinned. He waved from the tree he was perched precariously in. "Hey Blondie! Come up!"

Janus shook his head, pushing his blonde hair out of his face. "You come down here!"

"Why?!"

"Cause I need to talk to you!"

Remus sighed and rolled his eyes but jumped down anyway. "Okay? What d'you want, Blondie?"

"Why're you skipping classes?" Janus asked. Remus laughed.

"In one sentence?"

Janus shrugged. "If you think you can explain it in that."

"Okay. Ahem, school is boring as shit." Remus said, counting the words on his fingers. Janus glared at him dead-pan.

"But you still need to do it. Do you want to go back to the Isle?"

Remus shook his head violently.

"Then you'll go to school."

Remus sighed. "Fiiinnnneeee." Janus smiled at him.

"Thank you Rem. Now come on."

"Where're we going?" He asked as Janus grabbed his hand and started pulling him away.

"LGBTQ+ Club."

"Hey everyone! Sorry we're late." Janus yelled, bursting into the drama studio, which was filled with about ten people, including Virgil and Roman. Someone with a short bob of blonde hair rocked back on their chair and grinned at Janus.

"Hey Janus. Who's this?"

Janus grinned. "Remus. That guy's brother." He said, letting go of Remus' hand to point at Roman. Remus rubbed his hand behind his back, missing the contact between him and Janus.

"So, everyone's here now?" Virgil asked. Janus did a quick head-count and nodded. Virgil smiled a little. "Then, as the elected head of LGBTQ+ Club, this meeting has begun."

There was a little applause from a girl in the corner who quickly stopped, looking down. Janus grabbed a little notebook from his pocket and a stub of a pencil.

"In attendance..." Virgil said, trailing off as everyone sat down on blocks or the floor or stacks of chairs. Virgil motioned at Janus.

"In attendance, Virgil Beast, elected head, Janus Fitzherbert, elected secretary, Sunny and Nancy Rose-"

"Here!" Two girls said in unison, both of them giggled in unison as well. Roman blinked at the two.

"Okay, I've seen a lot of weird things, but that is by far the creepiest." The girls giggled again.

"Um, okay. Alex Liddell?"

They waved from the back. "Over here!"

"Jack Wilson?"

"Here!" A boy with a slight Southern accent called from a corner.

"Logan Triton? Patton Pan?"

"Here."

"Present."

Janus nodded and noted down the names.

"Um, Mina Ping?"

"Over here."

"Jamie and Dianna Ababwa?"

"Hello." Two girls yelled from on top of stacks of eight chairs.

"I'm not even going to ask how you got up there." Janus said, noting there names down. "Sam Skellington?"

"Hi." The boy with stiches waved from a corner.

"Aaron Fairy?"

"Hi."

"And finally, our two new members, Roman and Remus Queen."

"Hi." Remus said, his head resting on the floor and his feet resting on a block.

"Hello nerds." Roman said, waving. No one spoke.

"You mean... Queen as in... the Evil Queen?" Jack asked tentatively. Roman shrugged and nodded.

"Yeah. We've got nothing to hide." Alex, who was sitting near Roman, inched away slightly. Roman rolled his eyes. "Oh come on, I don't bite."

"I might!" Remus yelled, giggling.

"Yeah, he might. It's his defence mechanism." Roman nodded his head slightly.

"Everyone, can we please try and be kind to them?" Janus asked cautiously, looking at Virgil pleadingly. Virgil sighed.

"Guys, gals and non-binary pals, this is an accepting place, right? So we should... try and accept these kids as one of us, not kids from the Isle. Okay?"

A ripple of 'okay' went around the room and Janus smiled gratefully. Virgil nodded. "Okay, I suggest that we introduce ourselves to the twins with our pronouns and anything else we feel comfortable telling everyone, so they don't misgender anyone. I'll go first. I'm Virgil Beast, gay, he/him pronouns. They already know who my parents are." Virgil gestured for someone else to say something.

"I'm Janus Fitzherbert. Gay and he/him pronouns." Janus smiled.

"I'm Alex White. Pan, they/them pronouns. Oh, kid of Snow White and Prince Florian." Alex grinned.

"I'm Sunny." Sunny said, smiling gently. "And I'm bisexual. Oh, she/her pronouns. And my mum's Aurora and my dad's Prince Phillip."

"Nancy, panromantic asexual, she/her pronouns."

Aaron hugged his knees and opened his mouth. "Aaron Fairy. My mum's the Blue Fairy. Bisexual, he/him pronouns. Never knew my dad."

"I'm Jack Wilson. He/him, demisexual and my parents are Tiana and Prince Naveen." Jack said, giving a half-hearted wave.

"Jamie-"

"-And Dianna Ababwa."

"We're both bisexual-"

"-And use she/her pronouns." They both grinned.

"Mina Ping. Lesbian, she/her, Mulan's daughter." Mina said, holding her head up high.

"Hi kiddos. I'm Patton, you've kinda already met me. But I'm very gay and use he/him pronouns."

Logan pushed his glasses up his nose. "You've already met me but seeing as we are introducing ourselves, Logan Triton, gay, he/him pronouns, pleasure to meet you."

"Damn you're posh." Remus whispered. Logan glared at him.

"I'm Sam, I'm pansexual, he/him, Sally and Jack's son and I don't trust either of you one bit."

Roman shrugged. "That's far. Well, we're both gay as Hell and use he/him pronouns." He grinned. "So, what do we do here?"

Virgil shrugged. "This is basically just a vent space to talk about anything that kinda went wrong in your week."

"If we're going to be venting," Remus said, sticking his leg up in the air as if he was raising his hand, "can I ask a question?"

"Um, sure."

"Why does school exist? I mean, it's kinda pointless."

Virgil sighed. "Okay, moving on-"

"No but why? You didn't answer my question, Emo."

"Please don't call me that."

"Hey! Poshy!"

Logan sighed and opened a book, not looking at Remus.

"Posh guy! Nerd! Posh nerd! Smarty-pants! Posh! Posh! Posh! Po-"

"He's not gonna answer you, Isle Kid." Mina said. Remus laughed.

"I know. I just like annoying people." Mina raised her hand.

"Yes Mina?"

"If we're going to have a club, can that," she motioned to Remus, "not be here?"

Janus sighed. This was going to be a long hour.

Virgil sighed and flopped down on his bed. He pulled a pillow over his face and let it sit there.

"That'll ruin your make-up." Janus said, flipping through his notes.

"That was a train-wreck. This is why villain kids here won't work." Virgil turned his head under the pillow, his blue eyes glinting in the half-light. "They can't be accepted."

"No, they can be." Janus said. "They can be." He repeated. "It's just... we need to give people a different mentality."

"And how'd you expect to do that, Mr Genius?"

Janus shrugged and left the subject alone.

Sorry this chapter was so late! Jamie, Dianna and Sunny are all my Sides. They represent Painful Truths, Lies and my Heart. Also, thank you Swearingparrot  for the character Mina and Nancy.
Bye,
Queenie
