Chapter 41

"Fuck."

Janus looked up from his homework. "What?" He asked. He was still cold towards Virgil after their argument that morning. Not that Virgil really noticed.

"Dad doesn't believe me." Virgil said, sighing and throwing the copy of the treaty on his bed.

"Huh?"

"The king of Auridon can't even recognise his own signature and when it's been forged." Virgil explained, slowly, as if to a toddler. Janus glared at him before getting up and going to look at the treaty.

"You tried to tell him about this?"

"Of course I did." Virgil snapped. "You're not the only one who wants the Queen twins back, Jan." Janus glared at Virgil but said nothing. "I tried showing dad the treaty and he just came out with some shit about how 'the past is past' and 'what's done cannot be undone'."

"I see it runs in the family." Now it was Virgil's turn to glare. "If the signature was forged, wouldn't that make the rights for the Isle kids obsolete?"

Virgil snatched the treaty from Janus and skimmed over it. "Shit, you're right." He said, sitting down in defeat. "Fuck."

"Why'd you care so much about the treaty? There are other ways to get Rem and Roman off the Isle."

Virgil looked at Janus dead-pan. "Maybe for you but I'm grounded until Christmas."

"That's not so lo-"

"Finish that sentence. I dare you." Janus sighed. Virgil looked down at the treaty as an awkward silence filled the room.

"I'm sorry." They both said eventually. They blinked at each other for a few seconds before bursting into laughter.

"Sorry for yelling at you." Janus said when the gale of laughter had subsided.

"Sorry for being close-minded." Virgil said. Janus held out his hand.

"Friends?" Virgil shook it.

"Friends."

Knock, knock, knock.

"Hi, Miss Shock?" Roman asked. "Are your kids home?"

Two ten-year-olds peaked around the doorway. "Jane." The girl said.

"And Claude."

Roman dug around in his jean pockets and brought out an old-fashioned coin. He bent down to the kids' level and held out the coin. "How'd you like to help me out?"

"That's him." Claude said, pointing at a boy with dark hair.

"You sure?" Remus asked. The siblings nodded.

"Great." Roman said, grinning and pressing the coin into Jane's hand. "There you go. As promised."

"Thanks Mister." Jane said gleefully, running off with her brother not far behind. Roman laughed slightly before turning to Remus.

"Ready?"

Remus grinned, a crazed look in his eyes. "Born ready."

The boy had just turned into an alleyway. Remus lept down behind him, making him jump and swing around.

"Hey Christopher. Miss me much?"

The look on Christopher's face could only be chalked up to one word: shit. "Ah-ha. Hi Re. You look... good." Seeing the boy he had cheated on was clearly not ideal.

"Aw, thanks. Wish I could say the same for you." Roman jumped down behind Christopher, making him swing around again.

"Oh shit, what is this?" He asked, backing his way into a wall. "Look, you already made me pay and-"

"We're not interested in you completely decimating my brother." Roman said passively. "We're interested in the button you stole 'bout three, four days ago?"

"Our property. Give." Remus said bluntly. Christopher shrugged.

"Would if I could, Re, but-" Remus punched him. "Jesus Christ, what the fuck is wrong with you?!"

"What's wrong with me is that I never wanted to see you again. But here I am. Now give Ro the button and maybe you'll be able to see after this."

"Jesus, fine." Christopher growled, taking the button out of his pocket and giving it to Roman. "Doesn't do shit, anyway. Just looks pretty."

"Thank you, Christopher." Roman said, his eyes gleaming. "Re, if you would."

"That was fun." Remus said, rubbing his knuckles absently. Roman was examining the button carefully.

"It was fun to watch."

"We going home, Ro?" Remus asked excitedly, barely noticing the use of the word 'home' for Auridon. Roman looked at his twin and grinned.

"We're going home, Re."

*squeals excitedly* Prinxiety is coming, Prinxiety is coming, Prinxiety is coming, it's CoMiNg! Just trust me on this.
Bye,
Queenie
