Chapter 26

"Logan!"

Rose ran up to her brother and practically tackled him to the ground, hugging him tightly. Logan patted her awkwardly on the back.

"Hello Rose."

Rose punched Logan in the shoulder, hard, still not letting go of him. "Don't you ever do that again. Or I will come and drag your ass back here."

"Damn and I thought me and Re were weird." Roman whispered to Virgil. "Wait, speaking of Re. Hey! Calculator Watch!"

Rose had finally let go of Logan and he pushed his glasses up his nose, looking at Roman. "I assume you're talking to me?"

"Yeah. Where's Re? And Janus, for that matter."

"Um..."

Roman's face darkened as he approached Logan. "Logan. Where's my brother?" He asked again.

"About that..."

Roman grabbed Logan's shirt. "What did you fucking do with my brother?!" He asked, louder this time.

"Queen, let go of him." Virgil said, pulling Roman away and hitting the side of his head. "Pull yourself together. Let Logan explain. Okay?" Roman sighed and nodded, crossing his arms. "And stop sulking." Virgil turned to Logan who was straightening his tie, apparently unphased. "Logan, where are Remus and Janus?"

Logan took a deep breath. "I panicked. There were all these villain kids around and I'd nearly made a deal with Ursula and I wasn't in my right mind and I... I... I left them there."

"You what?!" Roman yelled. "You left Remus in that shit-hole?!"

"Queen, calm down. It's not a big deal."

"Oh yeah, sure. He's only been fighting his entire fucking life to get out."

"Well I'm sorry, Roman, but I panicked, as I said."

"How do you even fucking know how to drive? You're an Auridon kid. You basically know nothing."

"Oh, so you're assuming now?"

"Why not? You assume that just cause I'm from the Isle I can't be trusted."

"Well you can't-"

"Shut up!" Virgil yelled, pushing himself between the two squabbling boys. "Shut up right now. As your future king, I order you to, got it? Rose, why don't you take Logan up to the school. Maybe see if you can get the Pan brothers on his case. He'll need some help. Queen take a walk. Now."

Roman sighed, kicking a stone along as he walked next to the short boy.

"Look, I'm sorry that I lashed out at Logan, okay? I know it was wrong and shit but-"

"It wasn't wrong." Virgil said, pulling on a string on his hoodie's sleeve. He looked at Roman's surprised face and laughed, tearing his gaze away from Roman's juniper green eyes, looking back at the pavement. "It was a normal reaction. If I found out that one of my brothers was lost on the Isle, I'd be ready to hurt someone. So what you did was a normal reaction."

"Oh." Roman said, feeling oddly light inside, as if a great weight had been lifted off his shoulders. He glanced at the prince again, his dark hair turning golden in the slanting sun, and dropped his eyes back to his red-tipped shoes. "Why did you say it wasn't a big deal?"

"Because it's not." Virgil said. "And I don't mean it in a way like I don't care. I do care." He said quickly. "I mean, my best friend's over there too. I said it because, well one, I was trying to get you to stop trying to hit Logan. You'll need to apologise to him for that." Virgil cast a sharp glance at Roman who smiled sheepishly. "And two, because we'll get them back."

"How can you be so sure that we will?" Roman asked, doubt creeping into his voice. Virgil shrugged.

"I'm not sure. Not 100%. But I'm sure we can try." He looked up at Roman, dark blue eyes meeting dark green ones. "And I won't stop trying until I get them back, okay?"

Roman nodded and dropped his eyes to the ground. "And I won't stop either."
