Two

I woke up from a nap here on our couch. I grunted when I heard noises coming from the library not too far from the living room.

"ibeon chongseon-e chulmahal gyehoeg-isibnikka?" I heard Mom exclaimed and I knew that she is already pissed off.

(Translation: Are you really planning to run this coming election?)

Even I felt the same way but has no way of voicing it out.

My mom, Chun Kiera-Li, is already a famous singer of her time here in Korea. Dad,  Chun Dae-Hyun, on the other hand, is a respectable Vice Mayor II of Administrative Affairs and him aiming to be on the next level is already stressing us out.

I was torn between pretending to be asleep here on the couch and standing up to avoid them both when I heard their footsteps entered the living room. I chose the former.

"jeongsang-e oleugo sip-eun ge mwoga geuli jalmosdoen geolkka? naega salamdeul-ege doum-i doel su issdamyeon?" It was Dad who spoke. His voice began to raise as well.

(Translation: What's so wrong about wanting to be the top? If I can be of help to the people?)

Yes, Dad has a point but can't he just be contented with his current status? I'm already not enjoying my teenage years because of the bodyguards who are always on my watch almost twenty four hours a day! I sometimes even thought if they will also be following me to the  bathroom!

I sighed and was about to stand up when Mom answered him with a sigh of surrender.

"gyeongmissineun?" She asked and I felt my eyebrows raising up despite of my eyes being closed.

(Translation: What about Kyung-Mi?)

What about me?

"dangsin-ui ttal-eun imi seong-in-ibnida! geunyeoneun jasin-ui chaeg-im-e daehae al-aya habnida!" Dad snapped and I was tempted to cheer for him but I wanted to hear what Mom is about to say so I remained pretentious here on the couch.

(Translation: Your daughter is already an adult! She should know about her responsibilities!)

"geugeos-eun naega uido han ge anieossda! geunyeoga nugungaleul mannassneundedo uliui pyojun-e buhabhaji anhneundamyeon eotteohge doelkkayo? uliga yeogieseo gajang joh-eun geosman wonhandaneun iyulo geunyeoga uliege banhanghandamyeon eotteolkkayo?" Mom retorted.

(Translation: That's not what I meant! What if she met someone and would not even meet our standards? What if she would rebel on us just because we only want what's best for here?)

That's it! I couldn't take it anymore so I sat up and let my slippers made a sound on the floor making them look at me.

"jaldwaessguna, kkaeeonassguna!" Mom commented and looked from me to Dad.

(Translation: Good thing, you're awake!)

"naega banhanghaneun geos-eun na-ege dallyeo issseubnida. neohui dul-ege banhanghal mankeum salam-eul mannal saeng-gag-eun hajido anh-assda." I answered as I stood up.

(Translation: Me being rebellious is up to me. I wasn't even thinking of meeting someone enough to be rebellious against you two.)

"geuleohge saeng-gaghasindani dahaeng-ibnida. uli ttal-eun jeongmal eoleunseuleobge jalass-eoyo." Dad said proudly.

(Translation: I'm glad you're thinking that way. My daughter has indeed grown to be mature.)

I let out a deep breath and approached them before I went to the kitchen to get something to eat.

"naneun dangsin-i neulg-eul ttaekkaji dangsin-ui mal-e chungsilhagileul balal ppun-ibnida. jeog-eodo seongeoga kkeutnan hueneun abeojiga jeongmal yeolsimhi hago gyesidamyeon mal-ibnida. geugeos-i i gajog-eul wihae hal su issneun choesohan-ui il-ibnida." Mom said as I stepped inside the kitchen.

(Translation: I just hope you'll stay true to your words until you grow old. At least, after the elections, if your dad is really pushing through with it. That's the least you can do for this family.)

I chose not to say anything and ignored her.

Mom can be so overbearing at times so I always let her say whatever she wanted and do my thing. In the end, she'll loosen up.

I shook my head at the thought of Mom's words before I entered the kitchen.

That person must be so special that I would go out of my way just to be with him!

Impossible!

"hanpyeon, daecheonmuyeog-eun daehanmingug gugmin-ui anjeongwa anboleul wihae choego pumjil-ui jajaeleul jegonghal geos-eul yagsogdeulibnida." News Reporter Park Nam-Cheol said and I sighed and picked up the remote to turn off the television.

(Translation: In other news, Dae-Chun Tradings strongly commits itself to providing the best quality materials for the safety and security of the people of Korea.)

I looked at our Board of Directors and they gave me approving glances as they waited for my speech.

"bosidasipi, ulineun imi dosiui dolo mich gosogdolo gaeseon-e daehan hoesaui giyeoe daehan gongsig seongmyeong-eul balpyohaessseubnida. abeojiga i gyeoljeong-e bandaehal ttaekkaji deo gidalyeoya habnikka?" I said using my native language that is Korean.

(Translation: As you see, we have already release our official statement about the company's contribution to the city's road and highway improvements. Should we wait any further for my father to object this decision?)

They all shook their heads and agreed with me except for one old man who smirked at me.

"Okay then. Meeting adjourned." I said and all ten men stood up and shook hands with me before they went out of the board room.

That same old man stayed and approached me, his hands on his pockets.

"dangsin-eun dangsin-ui abeojileul jeongmal silh-eo, eung?" My uncle,  Yang Sung-Hoon, commented.

(Translation: You really hate your father that much, huh?)

"salanghaeyo, samchon!" I grinned at him and even gave him a finger heart instead of answering and he chuckled.

(Translation: I love you, Uncle!)

"jilmun-eul pihago issni, adeul-a? jeongmal ttogttoghae!" Uncle Sung-Hoon said and he laughed. "Bye bye!"

(Translation: Dodging a question, son? Really clever!)

"Bye, Uncle! Take care!" I called out and let out a deep breath and sat.

This is gonna be a long day.
