I was so engrossed with my book on World Tourism when Nam-Cheol immediately pulled it away. I looked up from my desk and scowled at him.
I hated his guts. He didn't show up yesterday at the coffee shop! I waited for an hour only to receive a text from him saying that he cannot make it due to a personal reason!
"Mianhae, nae salang! eoje eoje eodinga-e donghaenghaeyahandago gabjagi eomma-ege butjab hyeoss-eoyo!" Nam-Cheol pleaded and even kneeled in front of me as he asked for my forgiveness.
(Translation: Sorry, honey! I was held up by Mom when she suddenly told me that I have to accompany her somewhere yesterday!)
I shook my head and was about to open my mouth to shoo him away but was thankful that our Professor came in the nick of time.
Professor Kim raised an eyebrow at us and Nam-Cheol immediately stood up and went to his chair at the back of the classroom.
Professor Kim is our teacher in World Tourism and being an aspiring Flight Attendant, I know I am in good hands. Seoul University is one of the renowned universities here in Korea. This uni is definitely, by far, most vouched for institution especially in the fields of Tourism and Education.
Professor Kim started his lecture shortly after he entered the classroom. We all began to listen and sometimes tried to participate in class.
Being a daughter of a celebrity and a politician, people around me tried to interact and make friends with me. But I only chose those who I deem genuinely nice and after chasing their own dreams.
I am here to study not to socialize every chance I have. I only want to live a peaceful life away from my parents' paparazzis and the scrutiny of the public's eyes.
Then again, I know it is impossible with the situation I am in now. Being a student requires interaction with others. How much more if I get to graduate and be immersed in the real world soon?
I tried to focus my attention back to the lecture and realized that it has ended already and the class erupted into murmurs and what-nots. I sighed and placed my book inside my backpack. I am ready to start the next subject with courage if ever Professor Nam will give a pop quiz. I have studied in advance yesterday before I went out – rather, snuck out – from the house.
"Psst. Chun Kyung-Mi." I heard someone hissed from the back and I turned around to see one of my friends, Choi Kim-Jin, pointing at Dae Aera-Chu who was busy daydreaming in her seat in front of me.
"Ya! tto museun gongsang-eulhago issni!" I exclaimed and poked her waist using my fingers which she yelped in response.
(Translation: Hey! What are you daydreaming of again!)
"Amugeosdo! kkum-e geulideon namjaleul bang-geum mannan geos gat-ayo!" Aera-Chu said and smiled dreamily while resting her chin over her knuckles.
(Translation: Nothing! I think I just met the man of my dreams!)
Me and Kim-Jin erupted into fits of laughter and it was Kim-Jin who spoke, "nae kkum-ui namja, nae eongdeong-i! dangsin-i mannaneun modeun namjaneun dangsin-ui kkum-ui namjaibnida! geumandwo, babo! geuman gajeong hae!"
(Translation: Man of my dreams, my ass! Every guy you meet is the man of your dreams! Quit it, fool! Stop assuming!)
Both of us giggled while Aera-Chu ignored us and said, "he is just so cool and sexy. His tousled hair was just so hot."
With her last words, I remembered somebody whom I came across yesterday whose back was turned to me.
It couldn't be him! Seoul is a big city!
I shook my head thinking why I am even concerned about him and Aera's guy.
I am here to study, aren't I?
In this big city, I knew I will indeed be starting a whole new life.
That was my realization as soon as I stepped inside my cousin's home.
"Ui, brader! Kanina ka pa ba nakauwi? Pasensya napa-overtime sa coffee shop." That was Marc Domingo, my cousin, who just came in from work.
(Translation: Hey, brother! Have you been home before? Sorry, was forced to have an overtime at the Coffee Shop.)
I shook my head and smiled as I placed my guitar on the floor beside the small couch.
"It's fine. I had fun walking around here." I said and he nodded before saying that he'll take a shower first before he continues talking to me.
Minutes passed and I became bored so I searched for the remote and opened his television. Scanning some channels and finding no one in an understandable language, I contented myself in ZYB Ch5.
As I watched, a rather famous couple was being interviewed and asked by a reporter on their thoughts about her husband, Chun Dae-Hyun, entering the politics in a higher position.
"Pambihira. Hindi pa ba obvious ang sagot nila?" I chuckled and continued watching as I waited for the woman's response.
(Translation: Unbelievable! Isn't it obvious what her answer will be?)
"eum, nampyeon-i wonhaneun geos-i mueos-ideun naneun geu gil-ui modeun dangyeeseo geuleul jiwonhagi wihae geugos-eiss-eul geos-ibnida." The woman whose name was Chun Kiera-Li said with a smile.
(Translation: Well, whatever my husband wishes to be, I will be there to support him every step of the way.)
Hearing that, the audience who happened to be their supporters applauded at their answer.
I shook my head at her predictable answer just in time, Marc came out of the bathroom in his comfortable clothes.
"Kumakain ka ng ramen, brad? Atsaka kimchi?" Marc asked as he became busy in his kitchen.
(Translation: Do you eat ramen, bro? And kimchi?)
"Anything, bro!" I answered with a grin and then stood up to help him.
"Chill! It will be done in a couple of minutes so just relax there. I can manage." Marc said grinning before joining me in the couch.
