Five

"Akalain mo nga naman, big time ka na, tol!" That was my brother's teasing voice when he knew about the small gig I am scheduled to participate in this weekend here in Seoul.

(Translation: Who would have thought you will hit it this big, brother!)

"Shut up, Marvin. It just happened that Marc knew someone and was invited to join them." I answered over the phone.

"Naks! Sana all, English speaking!" Marvin chuckled and added, "seriously, kuya. Na-sesense ko na na iyan ang magiging big break mo para maging isang Oppa!"

(Translation: Whoa! I hope everyone is English speaking too! Seriously, big brother, I can sense that this will be a big break for you to become an Oppa!)

"ibwa, maetyu! naneun oneul keopisyob-e gal geos-ida. uli sangsaga dangsin-eul mannago sip-eohabnida."  I heard Marc hollered from the bathroom.

(Translation: Hey, Matthew! I will be going to the coffee shop today. Our boss wants to meet you.)

"Ano daw sabi ni Kuya Marc? Isda? Mangga?" Marvin cackled. I laughed as well.

(Translation: What did Big Brother Marc say? Fish? Mango?)

"gwaenchanh-eun! ppaleun syawoleul hago kkalkkeumhan os-eulo gal-aibseubnida." I ignored Marvin and answered Marc.

(Translation: Alright! Will take a quick shower after you and  change into decent clothes.)

"Ay! Ba-bye na nga! Hindi na kita maintindihan, Kuya!" Marvin said in frustration and hung up.

(Translation: Aissh! Bye! I can't understand you anymore, big brother!)

"Si Marvin yun no?" Marc asked as he approached the couch fully clothed in his uniform. I nodded. "Haha! Pikon talaga yun!"

(Translation: Was that Marvin? Haha! He's so quick-tempered!)

"Quit bugging him, Marc." I said and stood up to gather my towel at the rack behind my bedroom door. "Give me fifteen minutes to shower and change. It'll be quick."

He nodded still giggling. He continued fixing his hair as I headed to the bathroom to shower.

It took me only fifteen minutes to finish everything and is now ready with my phone and a couple of cash enough to stroll around Seoul.

I was about to open the door when Marc called out to me.

"Hey, don't forget this!" He said throwing me a faux leather sherpa aviator bomber jacket. I raised my eyes to meet his. "It's cold during night time here. Wear it in case you get cold."

"I thought it's still autumn season here?" I asked in curiosity. "It's almost the second week of September, right?"

He walked with me and closed the door behind him.

"It gets as cold as 22° to 20° by this time of the month as it slowly prepares for Winter." He explained and we treaded down to the subway.

We talked and he oriented me on the things I have to know about Korea and its season. Obviously, I need to learn more about it if I am planning to stay and make a living here.

We reached the coffee shop on time and I met his boss, Jeong Min-Jun.

Min-Jun is a middle-aged Korean entrepreneur and in his late thirties. But since Korean people looks younger than their age, he appears to be an older brother of Marvin by three or four years.

Marvin is only older by one year from me. We don't call each other as Big Brother and all.

We treat each other as buddies. We are good friends so there is no big deal for it.

"So, I'll see you on Wednesday evening?" Min-Jun asked smiling at me.

"ye boseu!" I answered grinning at him.

(Translation: Yes, Boss!)

"naega galge. naneun ajig daleun salamdeul-eul hwag-inhaeyahabnida. boja, maetyu!" Min-Jun said and stood up.

(Translation: I'll go ahead. I still have to check the others. See you, Matthew!)

"gamsahabnida boseu!" I added in excitement and bowed in gratitude.

(Translation: Thank you, Boss!)

That was Marc's cue to approach me. He nudged my arm using the mop.

"So, are you in? Or out?" He asked.

I winked at him. "I am definitely in!"

3rd Person's POV

Matthew spent the rest of his day shifting over the pages of his music sheets. He is still over the moon when he was hired as the resident musician of the coffee shop where Marc is working at.

Technically, they are now work buddies.

For him, Marc is an older brother he could ever have. An ideal one, to be exact.

Sighing in desperation for a new piece, he returned the music sheets back to his portfolio and decided to go to the Music Store to find and buy a new list of songs.

Probably, the popular ones. Like BTS or Blackpink?

Now that he's in Korea, he ought to know the latest trends as well as the music industry if he plans to stay longer and work his ass out.

Making sure that the electronics are unplugged, he locked the door. Heaving a deep breath, he made his way to the Music Store nearby.

He should have trusted his instincts when he was heading home awhile ago. He should have dropped by there earlier so he can have a rest later on.

Shaking his head, he hopped on the taxi and asked the driver to drop him to the destination. It took them almost forty five minutes before he arrived. Thanking the driver, he stepped out of the taxi and into the music store.

Loud music of BTS instantly filled the air. There were fewer people as he expected because in his mind, more are into downloadable ones.

A saleslady automatically greeted him which he gave a smile in return. He began finding some good stuff over cds and tapes. He was hoping to find one when he bumped into someone's back.

"mian mian." They both said until their eyes met and realized something.

(Translation: Sorry, sorry.)

"Neo?" She exclaimed in surprise at the same time, he blushed when they recognized each other.

(Translation: You?)

It was the girl at the park.

It was that beautiful Korean lady who took his heart with her.
