Five

A/N: Lou's outfit up there! You'll get it soon ;)

Louisa Lloyd

"Why did you bring me here with you?" I protest quietly.

I could be home right now, enjoying the warmth of my dear bed. But no, Derek had to throw me inside his car and drive me here.

"Where are we, anyway?" I cross my arms as we hide behind one of the cars of the empty parking lot.

"You'll see soon, now shut up!" His low voice is enough to raise the small airs on my arm. "He's coming."

Knowing he won't answer me, I wait patiently to see who this person is. And knowing Derek, this person is probably Scott. He has been helping my friend with the shift and is now testing him.

Scott walks past the cars in front of us and drags plastic bags full of groceries with him. But after a moment of walking the rows, he pauses. I raise my eyebrows as he throws several confused glances around himself. It's obvious: he can't remember where he parked.

This boy doesn't exist! He's so stupid!

"Crap." He almost screams as he hurries forward, looking from car to car.

Then comes to a halt, still lost. He starts back the other way but stops, putting the bags down. He pulls out his car keys and holds them up, clicking the alarm button.

I have to contain my laughter, it would be very humiliating if he found us here. I'm sure Derek has a little surprise planned for him.

While clicking the button like a maniac, a plastic bottle of milk rolls out of one of the bags. Scott moves to grab it but it slips under a car.

This time, I grip Derek's arm, my face red as a tomato. I have to release this or I'll die soon. It's too funny to be spying on my good friend,

"Dammit." Scott says and Derek moves from next to me, his finger pointed at me. He mouths 'shush' before disappearing.

Werwolves and their dumb powers. Sometimes I wish I could do some of the things they show me.

He kneels down to reach under one of the cars and Derek crouches on the other side of the car. I can see everything from where I am. Derek rolls the bottle rolls back and milk spurts onto the pavement. Scott stares at the bottle as it drifts to a stop, and I notice how it has Derek's claws marks in it.

Scott is trebling right now and before I can laugh at his face, Scott slowly rises to a standing position and runs away from the scene. He shoots a terrified glance back and Derek steps out of the shadows, standing scarily behind a car.

The Derek decides to do all werewolf on Scott and runs after him in all fours. When I lose the sight of them, I leave the safety of my hiding spot and walk after them.

When a growl comes from the corner of the parking lot and alarms start sounding around the me, I cringe. They really did it. Nice job.

"I said I was going to teach you. I didn't say when."

"You scared the crap out of me."

"Guys, we should get out of here." I cross my arms and Derek stares at me like I'm a child.

I tune out their conversation and walk to the exit, right next to Derek's car. They'll find me when they end their little lovers quarrel. Because that's exactly what they look like. Lovers. Always after each other.

The air is cold outside but it makes me smile. It was always like this back home. It was either cold, windy or rainy. I always loved winter and cold days. When it's hot, you can't take off your clothes and be comfortable, you either suffer or get naked. When it's cold, you just have to add another jacket.

"Can you please get out of there?" I ask loudly, knowing they can hear me.

I hear a small grunt from behind me as the breeze brushes my hair behind my back and I sigh in pure bliss. Heat has never been my favorite thing in the world but the chilly weather... Amazing.

"Guys..." I turn around, expecting to see one of them glowering st me. Instead... "You."

The red eyes that have been following me everywhere I go are currently staring at me like this creature wants to eat me or steal my soul.

Or bite me like Derek and Scott explained. What if it wants to bite me? What if it wants me to be part of its pack? I don't what that! I want to be normal! Just watching Scott and Derek during the full moon is enough to settle my mind.

"Scott!" I shout, walking backwards away from this creature. "Derek!"

The Alpha picks me up from the floor and grips my throat tightly. My feet leave the ground and the air I've been storing inside my lungs is slowly being released. I can't breathe...

"You..." I gasp. "Leave... Me... ALONE..."

I kick the Alpha in the stomach and it surprises the creature. It releases the hold on my stomach and I fall on my butt on the ground. I massage it before sprinting out of the building. I know I should've waited for them but I'm too scared to just stand there and wait.

"Derek! Scott!" I shout as I descend the stairs.

If they can't hear me then they're getting deaf. I'm being too loud and I wonder how and why they're not here yet. I hide behind one of the dumpsters and try to focus on my breathing and heartbeat. If I don't want him to find me I have to control them and pray for the best.

The best being Derek and Scott finding me before the Alpha.

I feel the tears behind my eyes and I quickly brush them away. I don't want to cry. I want to be strong. I have to be. I don't want them to see how scared I am all the time.

I don't know how long I've been here for but the fear consuming my body is too much for me. I feel like I'm going to pass out soon, but the fear of being found my someone else other than my friends is enough to keep me awake for a few more minutes.

"Stay awake. Be strong. Show them you're not weak. Be strong." I chant to myself. "Show then you're not weak..."

"Louisa?" Someone shouts my name and I jerk up, suddenly more awake and aware of my surroundings. "Lou?"

"Here!" I don't know how I manage to get up from my hiding spot but I do and walk as fast as I can. "I'm here!"

As their figures approach me, I look to the side and see that creature that will forever haunt my dreams. It nods at me and, if that's possible, smiles deviously.

Did it hear what I said back there?

•^•^•^•^•^•

I slam my locker as Scott walks behind me, muttering something about staying away from Allison. Yesterday was one of the scariest nights of my life. Scratch that, it was the scariest night ever!

I will never leave the house alone. I'll never go anywhere alone. I will never ever be alone again.

Yet, here I am. Alone. In the school's empty hallway. All by myself. An innocent young lady that could easily be raped and taken away from her loved ones and-

"Lou."

I almost wet my pants. I turn to the person who scared me, ready to go all ninja on their butt, but when I see Isaac staring down at me in amusement, my insides turn to jelly.

"Don't scare me like that." I punch his arm playfully, a smile on my face.

"Sorry." He really sounds sorry. "I was wondering if you have plans for tonight."

"Let me see." I tap my chin, pretending to be in deep thought. Isaac starts sweating under my gaze and when I click my fingers and shake my head, he looks like a lost child. "I have nothing planned for tonight."

"Good!" He says that in a very happy tone and I raise my eyebrows at him. I've been doing that a lot. Too much time with Derek. "I didn't mean in like that. It's just good that you're free because I wanted to ask you on a date."

I'm siglhtg surprised. Isaac and I have been spending a lot of time together, spent studying and bonding. I can tell I have some feelings for him since that night he called me and told me about his dad. But I thought it was one sided.

Oh what a wonderful bundle of joy!

"I'm free."

"Good!" He says once again and smiles. "Meet me outside my house at 7."

"Okay, I will be there."

He disappears around the corner after waving at me. I still can't believe what just happened. And how calm I was during the whole time. I'm improving. I'm impressed with myself! Lou 1, life 0.

With a little dance, I walk to my next class that happens to be Literature. I share it with Isaac, Stiles and Scott, and I usually sit by Izzy but S&S had an argument and don't talk to each other. So I have to be the queen of Neverland and switch places with one of them.

Nice.

When I sit down, the first thing I hear is Scott trying to catch Stiles' attention. I know my skinny friend is listening.

"You still not talking to me?" Stiles ignores Scott as the werewolf takes the seat behind us. "Can you at least tell me if your dad is okay? It was just a bruise, right? Soft tissue damage?"

Still no response. Poor boys. Notice the sarcasm.

"You know I feel really bad about it?" It's starting to irritate me. "Okay, what if I told you that I'm trying to figure this out? And that I went to Derek for help."

If I was talking to you, I'd tell you that you're an idiot for trusting him. But obviously I'm not talking to you." I punch Stiles for saying such thing about Derek. "Stop it!" He punches me back.

The room settles for the beginning of class. Stiles opens his notebook, pen poised for note taking. Then, almost scaring the daisies out of me, he turns around to face Scott and lowers his voice.

"What did he say?"

They hold their conversation until the class ends because the teacher is sending them dirty looks. I try not to laugh as the two squirm in their seats and Isaac tickles me. I can't take it anymore and when the ring bells I'm the first one out of the room, laughing like a crazy woman.

Scott and Stiles pay me no attention as I lean against the lockers for support. I can't even stand correctly. Isaac steps beside me and helps me up, his arm around my waist.

"That was cute." He winks.

"Shut... Up!" I gasp for air and grip his shirt in my hand. "I... Can't... Breathe... Help..."

"Sorry." He smiles, like he's sorry but the situation is just too hilarious. I probably look like a hiena. I don't blame him. "I have to meet my dad outside."

Isaac points at Lydia, who's waving her hands in the air trying to attract my attention. I sigh and rest my forehead on Isaac's neck. It's a nice place.

"Okay..." I smile shyly when he hugs me tightly against his body. "Call me if he gets too angry."

"I will." He kisses my forehead and nods at Lydia when she replaces him.

But her hugs are always a little forced. And Allison is right next to her so... I'm not very comfortable here.

"Hey." I greet them and Allison surprises me by hugging me along side Lydia.

"Sorry." She says against my shoulder. "I'm such a bitch."

Oh, really? And you only got the memo now? I've known that since you hit me in the face with a ball during gym class. It was not unintentional. It was definitely on porpoise, miss Argent!

"I have a good nickname for you." I tell Allison, remembering the first time I write her name of my phone when I sent Scott a text. My dear phone turned Allioson Argent to Allison Argentina. Yep.

"And... Should I be worrried?"

"You should." Lydia and I say in unison and end up laughing out socks out. I intend to keep her on the edge, not knowing what I'll call her next.

"So, I was thinking..." Lydia starts, biting her lips. It means she has an idea. And it's probably not good. "We could have a sleepover tonight. My house?"

I eye the two girls apologetically. "Sorry, but Isaac asked me on a date this morning."

Lydia and Allison share a loud squeal that made my left ear do a backflip. I cover it and shake it around, trying to turn it on again.

"Even better!" How's that possible, Lyds? "You can come to my house and Allison and I can help you with your outfit! And then sleepover after the date!"

I feel like I really don't have a choice. These girls have me wrapped around their fingers. Mainly because I don't even know what to do on a date. Never been on one before. I need help.

And as much as I hate to say it, I need their help.

•^•^•^•^•^•

"Oh my, Stiles! You so stole that from coach!" I gleefully laugh as we enter- oh the irony- Economics. "What's the plan now? Scott has that thing wrapped around his wrist. What are we waiting for? Is he going to go full werewolf on us?"

"Let's hope not."

I sit right behind Stiles and Scott is sitting next to us. The tables are separated from each other and he has to lean back, very awkwardly if I may add, and whisper to me in his too-loud-for-a-whisper voice.

A pile of books drops down on the teacher's desk as students hurry in for the start of class. We are already seated, our books out and eyes ready to watch Scott's reacting to whatever is going to happen next.

Coach glares up at us. He looks hung over as he drops a handful of antacids into his mouth and starts crushing them up with his teeth. That's bad for his health. He should be more careful.

"Sit down. Sit, sit, sit. Lots to cover."

Scott takes this as an opportunity to look at Stiles with pleading eyes, noticing he's sitting next to him and not behind him.

"No, Stiles, take the seat behind me. Stiles-" oh well it's too late. Allison takes the empty seat behind and smiles at me. Weird. I'm still not used to this.

"Hey, I haven't seen you all day." I advert my eyes from them, not wanting to interrupt one of their moments but I'm so curious.

"Oh. Sorry? I've been super busy."

"When are you getting a new phone? I feel like I'm totally disconnected from you."

"Soon. Really soon."

"I switched lab partners by the way."

"To who?"

"To you, dummy."

Stiles and I laugh quietly behind our hands, eyes castes down so no one catches us listening to our friends' stupid conversation.

"Me? Why me? I mean- are you sure?"

"Yeah. This way I get an excuse to bring you home to study."

"Oh..." She looks at him strangely and even I know he is throwing away his opportunity with her.

"You don't mind, do you?"

"I just don't want to bring your grade down."

"Maybe I can bring your grade up. Come to my place tonight. 8:30?"

"Tonight?"

"8:30."

Looks like Scotty here has a date. Coach Finstock smacks a book on his desk like a judge's gavel to get the class's attention.

"All right, settle down. Let's start with a quick summary of last night's reading. Greenberg, put your hand down. Everybody knows you did the reading. How about... McCall

"Huh?" Scott sits up and looks like a lost puppy.

He didn't do the reading. Oh the shock.

"The reading, McCall."

"Last night's reading?"

"No, the reading of the Gettysburg Address."

"What?" He sounds confuse and I don't know if I should cry or laugh.

"That was sarcasm, McCall. Familiar with the concept?"

"Very."

He glances to Stiles and little Lou over here. Stiles smiles proudly while I wave my hand.

"You did the reading or not?" Coach is losing and Scott is getting paler. I know something is wrong.

"I think I forgot."

"Okay, then. Nice work. Because it's not like you're averaging a D in this class. You do know I can't keep you on the team with a D, McCall?" He waits patiently for Scott to respond.

Everyone looks at the poor werewolf. Someone giggles from across the room. I hear a soft beeping and Stiles looks down at his phone and gasps. He shows it to me and I see the numbers. Scott's heart rate is rising steadily. He has to control himself or he'll probably kill us all.

"How about you summarize the previous night's reading?" He stops and his face falls when he sees Scott shrugging. "No? How about the night before? How about you summarize anything you've ever read? In your entire life."

Flustered, Scott blinks up at him. Stiles and I watch the heart rate monitor on his phone continue to rise.

"Um... Uh..."

"Anything at all. A blog? The back of a cereal box? The adults only warning on your favorite website."

Scott's sweating by now and I start playing with my fingers. A bad habit of mine, I always do this when I'm nervous. Scott stares blankly, not knowing how to respond.

"Thank you, McCall. Thank you for extinguishing every last flicker of hope I have for your generation. Next practice you start with suicide runs."

As the class laughs, Scott sinks into his seat in utter humiliation. I don't want to look but I know he's stressed and humiliated and a lot of other things. But I'm too worried with the rising numbers on Stiles' phone. I grip his shoulder tightly, afraid of what will happen next. Will he snap and leave? Or will he do something bad?

Then the numbers start dropping extremely fast and I release the air I was so tightly holding in. I look tinny side and see that Allison has reached under Scott's desk to intertwine her fingers in his. They sit there linked while Scott's heartbeat falls to perfect calm.

All from her touch.

Wow. What kind of sorcery is that?

The bell rings and I can't get out of here fast enough. Stiles is struggling to keep up with my fast pace but Scott left as soon as he could so we have to follow him.

"It's her."

"What do you mean?"

"After Stiles explained what you were trying to do, I realize something. You told us you were thinking about Allison on the night of the full moon? You were thinking about her. About protecting her."

"Okay."

"So remember the first lacrosse game? You said you could hear her voice out on the field." Stiles finished my idea and Scott still looks clueless.

"Yeah. I did."

"That's what brought you back so you could score. And then in the locker room, you didn't kill her. At least not like you were trying to kill me. She brings you back." Stiles says.

"But it's not always true. Because literally every time I'm kissing her or touching her-"

"That's not the same. When you're doing that you're just another hormonal teenager thinking about sex." I cross my arms and smirk at him. "See, you're thinking about sex right now. Aren't you?"

Gazing off with a slight smile at his lips, Scott snaps back to attention. This boy...

"Sorry."

"Now when she was holding your hand in class, it was different. I don't think she makes you weak. I think she actually gives you control. It's like she's a kind of anchor."

"You mean because I love her."

"Exactly." Stiles says desperately.

I pause, noticing that Scott stopped walking. I'm surprised by what he said. And he does too.

"Did I just say that?"

"You just said that."

"I love her."

"That's great. Moving on-"

"No, I do. I really do. I think I'm totally in love with her."

"And that's beautiful. Before you go off and write a sonnet can we figure this out? Because you obviously can't be around her all the time." I comment and they look at me then at the ground.

"Okay, what do I do?" Scott sighs. Stiles paces, then stops. He looks deep in thought. And that's normally not good. "You're getting an idea, aren't you?"

"Yeah."

"Could this idea get me in trouble." Scott sighs again.

"Maybe."

"Is this idea going to cause me physical pain?"

"Definitely."

"I don't really want to participate, I have a date to get ready to... So have a nice day." I pat their chests and walk away from them, leaving two speechless boys behind.

•^•^•^•^•^•

"What about this one?" Lydia holds up one of her dresses. "It's perfect for you, you have a good body."

I look up from the pile of clothes Allison and Lydia buried me in. I can't decide, I'm not good at this. I normally open my closet and put on whatever comes out first. It's the only way. I don't overthink it and it's simple.

"Help me!" I groan and throw the clothes around. The majority are dresses or very short skirts. Not my style. "I don't wear stuff like this!"

"It's your first date and you have to impress him." Lydia insists and throws me another dress. "We are looking for the wow factor! You have to shine tonight! Leave your shy self behind for one night!"

"Lydia." Allison grabs a dark brown leather skirt, a blue shirt and black knee-high boots. "Isaac likes her the way she is. She doesn't need to change her style."

She should have a reality show with her name. Or a dating app. Or something like that. She's good at this. But is what she said true? Does Isaac really like me? And for who I really am? The shy, sometimes too sarcastic, short and not athletic, annoying girl?

"I hope you're right." I whisper to myself and put on the clothes Allison gave me, ignoring Lydia's glare.

"He asked tou out. Without any help. He did it himself." Lydia says slowly as if she's speaking to a child. "He likes you. The question here is do you like him too?"

I stare at the wall sheepishly and Allison helps me with the boots. They're complicated to put on and I don't even want to think about the 'getting them out of my feet' process.

"And..." Lydia let's my hair down and observes her masterpiece. "You're ready!"

I get up from the chair I've been siting on for almost two hours and I have to admit Lydia did a pretty good job. And of course Allison's help was crucial as well. She tamed the beast that is Lydia whenever fashion is involved.

"Not my proudest job." She admits but hands me a black purse. "You look hot!"

I smile at myself in the mirror. I've never felt so beautiful in my entire life. Lydia used the minimal amount of makeup and only highlighted my cheekbones. It feels like I'm wearing nothing at all. I'm comfortable in my clothes, hair, makeup and body.

"Can you give me a ride?" I ask Allison, who's going back home to get her higiene stuff and pajamas. "I have to meet Isaac outside his house in..." I look at my watch and cringe. "Thirteen minutes."

Both Allison and Lydia get up from their spots on the bed and entrelace their arms with mine. We look like those models who walk together like bffs. The problem is I don't look like a model, I'll leave that to my two friends.

We hop into Lydia's car and she drives me to Isaac's house. But when we get there, he is nowhere to be seen. I look from left to right and still can't see where he is. Before I can ask one of the girls for help, someone taps on my window and I shriek. I've been scared a lot lately. Just stop surprising me!

"Hey." Isaac opens the door and involves me in his arms. "I scared you, didn't I?"

"No, I was surprised. There's a difference between scared and surprised. Learn your things!" I playfully shout at him and he looks from my eyes to my lips. "Where are we going?"

"I have my bike. I'll take you to the finest restaurant I could find." He scratches his neck when he sees Lydia and Allison are still inside the car, looking at us like we're a movie. "Do you mind?"

They sigh girly and bid me goodbye before finally leaving me and Isaac alone. He hops in his bike and I sit behind him, careful not to show anything I shouldn't. I carefully hug him from behind and hear him sighing.

"Enjoying this?" I ask.

"You have no idea."

We drive for a few minutes, with Isaac using his fabulous sense of humor to fill the silence. I think my hiena-like laughs are going to destroy this town and the next one.

We stop near the lake (in the middle of the forest!) and Isaac covers my eyes. He says something about a romantic entrance. The moment he uncovers my eyes is when I realize I really like him.

He did all this for me! Louisa Lloyd, the broken girl with no family and who traveled from London to live with her dysfunctional childhood best friend.

Me.

There's a blanket outstretched on the floor, two pillows and a picking basket on top of it. I blink furiously to hide the tears that threaten to fall from my eyes and turn to Isaac before examining the view.

"Do you like it?"

"I love it."

He takes my hand and guides me to the blanket. We sit we ear the turkey sandwiches he prepared and talk about everything: our friends and family, our dreams and even biggest fears.

I even admired I'm afraid of the dark. I'm not even kidding.

"I don't believe you!" Isaac laughs at my fear. "You, the powerful Lou, is afraid of the dark?"

I cross my arms and wait for him to stop, ready to punch his face if necessary.

"I'm kidding." He pulls me to his body, the food forgotten and I sit next to him, my face near his. I can feel him breathing next me, staring at me.

As soon as Isaac's hand touches my cheek and he leans in, our lips brushing against each other, my phone rings and we groan. Isaac wraps his arms around my shoulders and pulls me to his chest while I grab my phone and pick it up, not bothering to check who's calling.

I know too well who likes to interrupt my moments with Isaac.

"Yes."

"This is a terrible idea." Stiles' voice reaches my ear and I check the ID. It's Scott who's calling.

"I know." Scott answers.

"And we're still doing it."

"Can you think of something better?" He tells his friend and then talks to me. "Meet us. School parking lot. In ten."

Before he hangs up I hear Stiles' replying with his usual lever of sarcasm, and I can't help the small giggle that erupts from my throat.

"Personally, I'm a big fan of ignoring a problem and hoping it goes away."

Then the phone starts beeping and I turn back to my date, the two of us standing up, his arms around my waist.

"Need a ride?" He says, clearly angered but amused at the same time.

"Please." Wink at him.

"Let's go then, Madame."

"Oh, kind sir!"

•^•^•^•^•^•

I step out of Isaac's bike. He offers to follow me and take me to my other best friends but I decline and he bids me goodbye. I really don't want to leave his side, you know?

He's addictive.

I hug him before walking to the jeep owned by the one and only STILES STILINSKI! They're nowhere to be seen and I shout Scott's name. No answer too. Nice. I love being ignored.

"Here!" Comes the very late reply from McCall.

His surname is weird. But so is Stilinski. And Lahey. But who am I to judge? I have a plain name. Deal with it.

I wrap my arms around Stiles' shoulders and gasp at Derek, who looks at me from the bottom to the top.

"What are you doing here?" We ask at the same time. This is happening a lot lately. "I asked first!" Same thing happened.

"Date night. What about you?" I peek inside the Camaro to see Scott's boss bound, gagged and blindfolded. "He looks comfortable."

"I said that too!" Stiles jumps in excitement. "Twins!"

"Oh my." I facepalm and Derek manages to advert my attention away from the doctor.

"Ready?" Scott asks Stiles and the two walk away from Derek and I without another word.

"Do I smell?" I ask, not understanding their lack of explanation.

"Don't worry. He's tying to do something stupid for sure." We stay silent for a while before he starts babbling. "So, date night? Who's the bastard?"

"Hey!" I smack his arm but got hurt instead. "He's nice. And amazing. And incredibly handsome. And-"

I'm interrupted by a pathetic howl sounding from the school, like a dying hyena is trying to give birth to an elephant. Derek doesn't move a muscle before he slowly turns around in shock.

"You got to be kidding me..." He smacks his own face with his hands and I start laughing.

"Thank the heavens we were interrupted. That conversation was awkward!" Oh, I can't even look at his face.

Then, seconds after my laugh attach, another howl echoes across the buildings, over the trees and into the night sky. Derek turns back, now actually impressed. But clearly not happy.

Derek and I stare at each other, me speechless and Derek pissed. Scott and Stiles bang through the doors of the school and out into the parking lot. Derek assaults them.

"I'm going to kill the two of you myself. Are you trying to attract the entire state to this school?"

"I didn't know it would be that loud." Scott defends himself.

"It was loud. And it was awesome." Stiles beams with pride.

But Scott is no longer paying attention to either of them. Instead he's looking at Derek's Camaro. The door is open and I run to it, not seeing the doctor who once laid unconscious on Derek's seat. Derek steps forward, surprised.

"What did you do with him?" Scott asks.

"I didn't do anything..." Derek sounds irritated.

"He was just there..." I sound pathetic.

I can't react. Derek is pulled from the floor before he can say rice twice and blood spurts from his mouth as he rises up into the air, held aloft by something dark and large behind him.

The Alpha.

Screaming like damsels in distress, Stiles and Scott stagger back. Derek's body goes flying, slamming into the brick wall of the school and dropping down. I don't have time to react. The Alpha grabs my arm, but instead of killing me like he did to Derek, he throws me on his shoulder and laughs quietly as Stiles and Scott run for it, racing for the school.

He starts walking slowly and when I realize he's not going to kill me, yet, I bang my fists against his hairy back.

"Put me down, you ball of fur!"

He doesn't reply to my insult. Instead, he enters the school like he owns the place and throws me across the hallway, my head hitting the pavement violently.

I see tiny back dots felling around my vision, and I know I'm about to pass out. Or die. I don't know which one is the most appealing right now.

The glowing red eyes are what I see before the darkness embreasses me like a lost son. But the last thing I feel is this creature's teeth sinking in my skin.

Hello darkness my old friend.
