Now on with the story!!
I sat on the small bed in my room staring bleakly out of the window, outside was a view of a sunny garden. It was large with a swing-set, slide, see-saw and a sandbox the reason the garden was so large because where I lived also homed a large group of other children. This was due to the fact that where I lived was an orphanage. I was given into the orphanage when I was little after living with my adopted parents for a few years of my life. They had told me that they had found me abandoned in the streets when I was just a baby. I lived with them until I was three years old then, BAM!, my adopted mum was caught in a car crash which she didn't survive from. My adopted dad blamed me for up to a year saying that I was a bad luck charm and he also started calling me a freak with my eyes. You see I have an ability to change my eye colors, although I cannot control it due to the fact that my eyes change colors depending on my emotions. When I turned four I was placed in the orphanage and despite being with other family's either adoption or foster they always returned me because of my eyes.
During my time in the orphanage I never made any friends as they also saw me as a freak in fact I've never met someone who saw me as normal. After being an orphan for two years I decided it would be best to try and hide my eyes for good. To do this however was to try and cut off any and all emotions all together. This still didn't help however because my natural eye color was a dark purple and this still lead to people, usually children, bullying me.
On this day I sighed seeing the other orphan children running around and playing tag or just talking happily. Then I heard the bell ring for supper time I got up and brushed down my long light yellow dress and walked downstairs where there was already lots of children in a cafeteria like hall. I walked to the line where children pushed me out of the way knocking me to the floor laughing as they saw me fall to the floor. I didn't react instead I got up and went into the line ignoring the glares and the harsh words thrown my way. I eventually got my food which was no more then some porridge and a glass of milk however as I walked to an empty table some random child stuck their foot out and tripped me over. My tray of food flew from my hands and went into the air before landing on top of me. The porridge was in my hair and was mixing with the milk despite trying so hard to not feel my emotions the children laughing at me a mocking me made my eyes turn blue and tears welled up before I got up and ran out of the building to the garden. Behind the garden we had a large forest area which was strictly out of bonds but I didn't care anymore I didn't care what happened I just wanted to get away from this horrible place.
After running through the woods for god knows how long I soon came to a large tree I looked at the tallest branch and my eyes became darker my sadness becoming worse. Taking a deep breath I grabbed on the lowest branch and pulled myself up I kept going until I was the highest I could go. Looking down made me feel sick my eyes going slightly green but the blue was still the strongest color you could see. I took a few more steps towards the end of the branch I knew what I was doing if i just took one more step I could just stop the torment maybe I could finally be at rest and if my real parents were there then it was another upside. However, before I could take the final step I heard a voice from below me.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you" I yelped slightly yellow tinging the edge of my eyes. I looked down and saw a man below me right at the bottom of the tree he was middle aged looking with a black leather coat and funnily big ears, though who am I to judge.
"And why not?" I asked this stranger. He shrugged and looked at me before answering.
"It just seems like a waste to take the last step" I looked down not knowing how to react to what he was saying.
"Why are you even talking to me?" the man looked down and then shrugged.
"Don't know just thought I'd stop you from doing something you'd regret" I slumped down and sat on the branch. "So what's your name?" I sighed before looking down.
"Effie, Effie Garnet. What's your's?"
"The Doctor" I raised an eyebrow.
"The Doctor? How is that your name?" He shrugged.
"It just is. So you think you wanna climb on down?" I thought for a minute looking down before sighing and started to climb down. But as I got halfway the branch that I placed my foot on snapped making me start to fall to the bottom of the tree. My eyes turned yellow and I could almost feel my death arriving towards me. Just as I thought I was gonna hit the ground I was caught I looked up and saw The Doctor he placed me down gently. That was when I saw him looking at my eyes which were still yellow from the fall but as I felt myself calm down I knew my eyes were changing back to purple. I knew he saw this as his eyebrow raised in surprise I quickly looked down trying to avoid eye contact. "What just happened with your eyes?" I started to worry.
"O-Oh it, it was nothing" He kneeled down and placed a comforting hand on my shoulder.
"Come on you can tell me Effie" I sighed before looking up.
"My eyes change color depending on how I'm feeling. I'm like a walking, talking mood ring" He seemed to smile at that. "Wait, your not gonna call me a freak? Or yell at me for my eyes?" This seemed to alarm him.
"Why would I do that?" I sighed again.
"Well that just seems to be the normal reaction with other people" This seemed to make the man annoyed.
"Well not from me, if anything I think it's pretty fantastic" This made me smile I then raised an eyebrow and asked.
"Okay so now I wanna know, who are you? I know your The Doctor but I've never seen you before and the first time I do I meet you in the woods. Seems a bit creepy to be honest" This made him smile.
"Well if you wanna know..." He looked around to see if anyone else was around I did the same. "I'm an alien" I blinked my eyes at this.
"Really?" he nodded.
"Yep I'm a Timelord from a far away planet called Gallifrey" I became interested by this sitting down on a log and listened to him speak about his home planet. After a few hours of us talking I noticed that it was starting to get dark so I had to get back but before I left I turned to him.
"Wait, will I ever see you again?" The Doctor looked down.
"Absolutely, our way to special to just leave" I looked down my eyes becoming slightly blue.
"No other person seems to think that" He frowned slightly before he patted his jacket and pulled out what looked like a key on a necklace chain. "What's that?" I asked he walked towards me.
"This is a key to my ship the TARDIS I want you to keep this one as a way to know you will see me again" I took the key and placed the chain around my neck. My eyes started turning rainbow colored which showed my happiness.
"Okay, I'm holding it to you to come back" I smiled before waving and running away back to the orphanage. No one noticed that I had run away and if anything some kids seemed annoyed that I was back. I ignored them and then I walked to my room after putting my nightgown on I closed my curtains and laid in bed looking at the key.
