A/N the outfit above is what Effie is wearing in this episode
Effie's P.O.V
(Effie's room in the TARDIS)
I have been living in the TARDIS with The Doctor and Rose for a few months now for the past few months I have been using these months to get used to living in the TARDIS I feel like the TARDIS talks to me or at least tries to communicate with me. On the first day when I moved into the TARDIS, The Doctor directed me to the room I'd be staying in he told me the TARDIS had decorated it according to what it would think I would like. My room was black walls and on the roof was galaxies swirling moving around the walls my bed was king-sized with glowing stars on my duvet and pillow case. I had a bookshelf with all the great classics and a desk with a drawing pad that would allow me to draw when I had time to kill.
On this day I was going on my first adventure with The Doctor and Rose I was very excited to do this as I have never been any further then the forest outside the orphanage but this would probably not be the furthest I'll go. I held onto the console as the TARDIS landed I looked to the door and back to The Doctor and Rose. I smiled and asked The Doctor.
"Can I go out there?" Raising his hand towards the door he nodded.
"Sure, go right ahead. But be careful I think something could be wrong" I ran to the door and opened it up seeing thousands of glass cabinets filled with clearly alien devices in as Rose and The Doctor follow me Rose asks him.
"So what is it? What's wrong?" The Doctor looks back at the Tardis shrugging.
"Don't know. Some kind of signal drawing the Tardis off course." I looked around asking.
"Well, where exactly are we?" He looked around and answered me.
"Earth. Utah, North America. About half a mile underground." Rose looked towards the Doctor.
"And when are we?" The Doctor checked his watch answering.
"Two thousand and twelve." I look shocked at this.
"Oh my god, I'll be twenty two at this point. I'll be a fully grown adult.... That sucks" Rose chuckles at this. The lights suddenly turn on and things around us become clear my eyes go slightly yellow from the lights startling me. Rose looks around as I go look at the cabinets.
"Blimey. It's a great big museum." The Doctor looks into the glass cases retorting.
"An alien museum. Someone's got a hobby. They must have spent a fortune on this. Chunks of meteorite, moon dust." He points to what looks like a slab of metal. "That's the milometer from the Roswell spaceship." Rose suddenly squeaks making my eyes change yellow again for a second I look to see a large green arm.
"That's a bit of Slitheen! That's a Slitheen's arm. It's been stuffed." The Doctor's voice speaks behind us.
"Oh, look at you." I look at a metal head and get closer asking.
"What on earth is that?" I look to The Doctor as he has a sad look in his eyes.
"An old friend of mine. Well, enemy. The stuff of nightmares reduced to an exhibit. I'm getting old." I can feel the sadness radiating off of him I feel my eyes changing to dark blue and I timidly place my hand in his comfortingly. He looks down at me and gives me a smile squeezing my hand in reassurance but doesn't let my hand go. I then look back to the head asking.
"Well is that what the TARDIS was drawn to?" The Doctor shuck his head.
"No, it's stone dead. The signal's alive. Something's reaching out, calling for help." I go to touch the display when an alarm startles me making my eyes go fully yellow with a tint of orange as armed guards rush towards us stopping us from going to the TARDIS. The Doctor gently pushes me behind him protecting me from the guards. From the other side of the Doctor I hear Rose say.
"If someone's collecting aliens, that makes you Exhibit A." I see her give me a quick glance. "And I don't think Effie's to safe either" This one thing made me grip The Doctor's hand more.
********************************************************
I was walking next to Rose down a hallway, The Doctor was ahead of us Rose could tell that I was getting scared as she placed her hand in mine in an attempt to comfort me, which did actually help. We enter a room to see a rich looking man behind a desk being talked to by a younger man who looks to be about Rose's age. The Doctor cut them off saying.
"I really wouldn't hold it like that." The ginger woman snapped at The Doctor.
"Shut it." I turn to her getting slightly annoyed at her attitude to him.
"I'd really suggest you listen to him" The young boy turns to The Doctor asking.
"Is it dangerous?" The Doctor smiles to me from my previous statement before smiling and answering.
"No, it just looks silly." He reaches for the item that the rich looking man has in his hands when the guns around us click aiming at him. My grip tightens on Rose's hand and my eyes turn orange, scared that the soldiers would shoot him. The rich man hands the object to The Doctor who holds it gently. "You just need to be..." He softly strokes it and it makes a sweet musical sounding note. "..Delicate. " He plays a few more notes I ask him more as a statement.
"So it's a musical instrument" Doctor looks back to me smiling.
"And it's a long way from home." I walk forwards slowly.
"Could I have a go?" He smiles and hands it to me I copy, The Doctor's actions and play a few notes making a sweet sounding melody. The Doctor smiles at me.
"Well done" The rich guy suddenly snatched it from me.
"Here, let me." His touches were harsh and made sounds that sounded painful. I slightly glare at the man.
"He did say you had to be gentle with it" Soon the rich man gets around to playing it correctly. Doctor nods saying.
"Very good. Quite the expert." The man looks up at the two of us.
"As are you two." I frown as he casually tosses the instrument aside making it land on the floor. He turns to us again asking. "Who exactly are you?" Doctor turns to him answering.
"I'm the Doctor. And who are you?"
"Like you don't know. We're hidden away with the most valuable collection of extra-terrestrial artefacts in the world, and you just stumbled in by mistake." I shrug nodding.
"Got it in one" He looks at me and Rose.
"The question is, how did you get in? Fifty three floors down, with your little cat burglar accomplices. You're quite a collector yourself, they're rather pretty." Rose glares at the arrogant man.
"I'm going to smack you if you don't take that back" I cross my arms.
"And one of those cat burglar's is only 15 you creep" he didn't seem to change his tune despite me and Rose.
"They're English too! Hey, little Lord Fauntleroy. Got you a girlfriend." He said the last bit aimed towards Rose. The young boy looked to us saying.
"This is Mister Henry Van Statten." Rose looks to him asking.
"And who's he when he's at home?"
"Mister Van Statten owns the internet." Rose raises her eye brow.
"Don't be stupid. No one owns the internet." Van Statten looks to us smirking.
"And let's just keep the whole world thinking that way, right kids?" Doctor seems to frown at Van Statten.
"So you're just about an expert in everything except the things in your museum. Anything you don't understand, you lock up."
"And you claim greater knowledge?"
"I don't need to make claims, I know how good I am."
"And yet, I captured you. Right next to the Cage. What were you doing down there?"
"You tell me."
"The cage contains my one living specimen."
"And what's that?"
"Like you don't know."
"Show me."
"You want to see it?" Rose turns to me and mummers.
"Blimey, you can smell the testosterone." This makes me chuckle making me put my hand over my mouth.
"Goddard, inform the Cage we're heading down. You, English. Look after the girls. Go and canoodle or spoon or whatever it is you British do. And you, Doctor with no name, come and see my pet." Before we were escorted out I sneakily grabbed the instrument and hid it in my pocket this Van Statton did not deserve such a beautiful thing like this.
******************************************
Me and Rose are in a room with the young boy, who we found out was called Adam he was showing us different things around the room. I couldn't concentrate on what Rose and Adam were talking about I was to worried about The Doctor. Anything could be happening to him at this point Van Statten could be a back-stabber and could just hurt Doctor when he's not expecting it. I tune back to Rose and Adam when I saw Adam going towards a computer I look at the screen seeing a giant pepper pot.
"It doesn't do much, the alien. It's weird. It's kind of useless." I speak up at this point.
"It kinda looks like a giant pepper pot, doesn't it?" This makes Rose chuckle. I saw a man walk towards the pepper pot but what happens next makes my blood run cold as I heard it start to scream. Rose clearly feels the same way as she exclaims.
"It's being tortured! Where's the Doctor?" Adam shrugs.
"I don't know." Rose stands up and I follow her lead.
"Take us down there now."
********************************************
We get to the place called the Cage as we enter Adam warns us.
"Don't get too close." As we enter we hear the door close behind us. I see the giant pepper pot and slowly make my way closer to it with Rose.
"Hi. Are you okay? My name's Effie Garnet and this is my friend Rose Tyler. We know someone who can help you if your in pain. He's called the Doctor" I got no answers or even a word back so I asked. "What's your name?"
"Yes." I looked at Rose confused as she then asked it.
"What?"
"I am in pain. They torture me, but still they fear me. Do you fear me?"
"No." Rose answered it then seemed to look at me and asked.
"And you?." I looked down but then answered.
"No, I don't think so" I said this hoping my eyes were telling a different story. The metal creature looked down.
"I am dying." My voice was slightly wavering I didn't know this creature but nobody deserved to live like this.
"No, we can help." The creature still didn't look up.
"I welcome death. But I am glad that before I die I have met a human who was not afraid." My eyes were turning blue as I felt even more sorry I then asked.
"Isn't there anything we can do?" The creature looked at me and it could of been my eyes playing tricks on me but it had a surprised look in its optic when it saw that my eyes had changed to dark blue. But after looking at me it sad sadly.
"My race is dead, and I shall die alone." It looked down again and I felt a tear fall down my face I wiped it away and reached towards the top of it when I placed my hand on it I felt it burn making me flinch away. I saw a golden hand print that faded away the creature lifted it's optic looking around.
"Genetic material extrapolated. Initiate cellular reconstruction!" I stepped backwards quickly as my eyes changed to orange. A man ran into the room and as myself, Adam and Rose ran out we heard the man scream as he fell down dead and the door slammed shut and locked.
*******************************
An armed guard called DE Maggio had been escorting us to safety we eventually made it to a stairwell. We ran up a few flight of stairs and looked backwards Adam looked down and saw the creature, which I had learned was called a Dalek, at the bottom of the stairs.
"Great big alien death machine defeated by a flight of stairs." I glared at Adam slightly saying.
"I wouldn't judge what it can do just yet" DE Maggio pointed her gun at the Dalek and said.
"Now listen to me. I demand that you return to your cage. If you want to negotiate then I can guarantee that Mister van Statten will be willing to talk. I accept that we imprisoned you and maybe that was wrong, but people have died, and that stops right now. The killing stops. Have you got that? I demand that you surrender. Is that clear?" In the most monotone voice I've ever heard the Dalek gave it's answer.
"Elevate." My eyes turned orange as I saw it begin to glide up the stairs Rose started to back away murmering.
"Oh my God." DE Maggio turned to Adam.
"Adam, get them out of here." I placed my hand on DE Maggio's shoulder.
"Please, come with us. You can't stop it" DE Maggio looked at me over her shoulder.
"Someone's got to try. Now get out! Don't look back. Just run." I turned and followed Rose and Adam trying not to cry as I heard Maggio's screams behind me.
****************************
As the Dalek entered the room me, Adam and Rose we're in along with other survivors it started shooting at people. It's optic suddenly landed on me. My eyes changed to orange thinking it was going to kill me but it didn't do anything. I felt Rose grab my arm and I said to her.
"It was looking at me." Rose just shurgged this off saying.
"Yeah, it wants to slaughter us." I shuck my head.
"I know, but it was looking right at me." Adam rolled his eyes.
"So? It's just a sort of metal eye thing. It's looking all around." I glared becoming irritated.
"I don't know. It's like there's something inside, looking at me, like, like it knows me."
*******************************
In front of me I hear Rose's phone ring, as she answers it I hear her say.
"This isn't the best time." I couldn't hear who she was talking to but she turns to me asking me. "Effie which floor are we on?" I remember back to the last floor sign I saw.
"Level forty nine." Rose repeats my answer into the phone, after a few seconds she turns to me saying.
"Come on Effie, we've got to go they're sealing the vault"
*******************
In front of us was a large steel door that began to slowly shut I tried to run as fast as I could but as it got closer to the floor I saw Adam get under and as Rose rolled under she dropped her phone. I was the next but just as I was about to make it under I felt my foot connect with my other foot tripping me up making me land just as the door shut I heard Rose.
"Effie!" I looked next to me I saw Rose's phone I picked it up and heard The Doctor's voice.
"Rose, where are you? Rose, did you and Effie make it?" I sighed.
"Sorry, I was a bit slow. Rose made it but I'm still stuck." I turned around and saw the Dalek at the end of the hall. "Goodbye, Doctor, just please don't blame yourself for this I have loved the time I've known you. Best time of my life" I dropped the phone as the Dalek yelled.
"Exterminate!"
*******************
I looked up my tears streaming down my face and my eyes orange in fear. I looked at the Dalek as it just looked at me.
"Go on then, kill me. Why're you doing this?" The Dalek moved it's gun around.
"I am armed. I will kill. It is my purpose." I glared at it my eyes turning red.
"Your the reason all those people are dead" The Dalek looked at me and stated.
"They are dead because of us." I suddenly felt my blood run cold at that. I sniffed rubbing the tears away.
"And now what? What're you waiting for?"
"I feel your fear." I again glared at him.
"Well, what do you expect? Do you expect me to be happy about this?" The Dalek then snapped at me.
"Dalek's do not fear. Must not fear." Two shots were fired either side of me making me flinch and hide my head. "You gave me life. What else have you given me? I am contaminated." I was then forced to stand next to the Dalek as it made The Doctor open the door.
**********
As we stood in the lift I turned to the Dalek begging it.
"I'm begging you, don't kill them. You didn't kill me." It swung it's optic towards me making me flinch back as to not get hit.
"But why not? Why are you alive? My function is to kill. What am I? What am I?" I then gave it a serious look my eyes turning purple.
"Something better then what they think you are" As the lift door opens I lift my hands up. "Don't move. Don't do anything. It's beginning to question itself." The Dalek rolled across the room to Van Statten I noticed both The Doctor and Rose were not there.
"Van Statten. You tortured me. Why?" Van Statten was pinned against the wall.
"I wanted to help you. I just, I don't know. I was trying to help. I thought if we could get through to you, if we could mend you. I wanted you better. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry! I swear, I just wanted you to talk!"
"Then hear me talk now. Exterminate! Exterminate! Exterminate!" I ran up the Dalek placing a hand on it's gun in a calm manner hoping to stop it. Surprisingly, it stopped and looked towards me.
"Please, don't do this. Be something better then what they think that you are. Please, there has to be something other then this that you want?" It looked down at my hand and back to my eyes.
"I want freedom." We arrive on the surface level and the Dalek blasts a hole in the roof making sunlight stream down hitting my face and it's optic. I turn to the Dalek and smile.
"There you go you'r free. Huh, I never knew how much I missed the sunlight" The Dalek turned to me asking.
"How does it feel?" I heard a hiss and saw the Dalek opening it middle revealing a one-eyed mutant. It pushed out a tendril towards the sunlight.
"Get out of the way." I spun around my eyes turning yellow as I saw The Doctor holding a large gun aiming towards me and the Dalek. "Effie, get out of the way now!" I frowned and made sure I was fully blocking his aim.
"No. I won't let you do this."
"That thing killed hundreds of people." I frowned arguing.
"It's not the one pointing the gun at me."
"I've got to do this. I've got to end it. The Dalek's destroyed my home, my people. I've got nothing left." I sighed and gently said.
"Look at it."
"What's it doing?"
"It's the sunlight, that's all it wants."
"But it can't"
"It couldn't kill Van Statten, it couldn't kill me. It's changing." I swallowed a dry lump in my throat my eyes turning blue. "What about you, Doctor? What the hell are you changing into?"
"I couldn't. I wasn't. Oh, Effie. They're all dead." The Dalek spoke behind me.
"Why do we survive?" The Doctor sighed looking down.
"I don't know."
"I am the last of the Daleks"
"You're not even that. Effie, did more than regenerate you. You've absorbed her DNA. You're mutating." I looked at The Doctor asking him.
"Into what?"
"Something new. I'm sorry." I looked at him confused.
"Isn't that better?"
"Not for a Dalek." I looked back to the Dalek.
"I can feel so many ideas. So much darkness. So much unknown history. Effie, give me orders. Order me to die." My eyes turn dark blue as I begin to cry.
"I can't do that."
"This is not life. This is sickness. I shall not be like you. Order my destruction! Obey! Obey! Obey!" I finally chocked out.
"Do it."
"Are you frightened, Effie Garnet?" I nodded my head.
"Yeah."
"So am I. Exterminate." The Dalek shut it's eye and closes it's armor at this point I ran to The Doctor and hugged him he hugged me back tightly.
*****
We met back up with Rose at the TARDIS.
"A little piece of home. Better than nothing." Rose looked back to the Doctor asking.
"Is that the end of it, the Time War?" The Doctor nodded.
"I'm the only one left. I win. How about that?" I tried to reasure him.
"The Dalek survived. Maybe some of your people did too."
"I'd know. In here. Feels like there's no one." Rose then smiled at him.
"Well then, good thing I'm not going anywhere." I smiled holding onto his hand.
"Me neither" The Doctor smiled back at me. At this point Adam ran up to us informing us.
"We'd better get out. Van Statten's disappeared. They're closing down the base. Goddard says they're going to fill it full of cement, like it never existed."
"About time." I muttered under my breath I saw the Doctor smile at this.
"I'll have to go back home." The Doctor smiled.
"Better hurry up then. Next flight to Heathrow leaves at fifteen hundred hours." Rose turned to The Doctor.
"Adam was saying that all his life he wanted to see the stars."
"Tell him to go and stand outside, then." I teased.
"He's all on his own, Doctor, and he did help."
"He left Effie down there."
"So did you." Rose countered. Adam looked at us confused.
"What're you talking about? We've got to leave." I nodded towards him saying.
"Plus, he's a bit pretty." Rose looked to me raising her eyebrow.
"I hadn't noticed." The Doctor sighed.
"On your own head." At this we entered the TARDIS and were followed by Adam I sighed and went to my room that adventure had taken a toll on me emotionally and physically and one thing rang through my mind the sentence the Dalek said in it's dying moments.
"So much unknown history"
